1. book you’ve reread the most times?
So I'm not like. A huge rereader? I will often reread some passages on their own if I like them a lot, but a whole book is actually pretty rare. As such, I think Vicious by VE Schwab wins by pretty much not having competition since I re-read it once for the Vengeful release and am planning to do the same for this year's Victorious release in October.
11. what non-fiction books do you like if any?
Every year I tell myself I'm going to start reading more non-fiction because I do think it's a legit blind spot for me. That being said, one book I read because of college that I did enjoy a lot from what it has to say (and how it teaches you to properly hate modernist urbanism) is The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs.
17. top 5 children's books?
Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones - This book is, like, everything to me. I read it first as an adult, and I wished I had read it sooner, but I'm pretty sure it either wasn't translated into Portuguese before the 2020s or it went out of print far before I ever heard of it. Maybe it's a product of it's time in that it's a perfect children's book precisely because it does not talk down to the reader. I love how it plays with fairytale tropes and how Sophie is angry and prissy and proud. I love a serious woman/ridiculous man "birds. you people want birds" romance. I bought the whole trilogy in a box set when it was released in Brazil because the editions were illustrated by one of my favorite artists at the time, but I still haven't read past this first book. Oops!
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K LeGuin - Another book I only found later in life due to it's translation not being widely available as a kid. I love it's magic system and it's worldbuilding so much, name magic is one of my favorites. And Ged's emotional journey is very memorable. I own most of the rest of the series as well, but have not, as of yet, gotten around to it.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan - I'm sure this is not a very surprising pick, but it is a very important series to me. It was baby's first fandom, after all. And it's undeniably the best out of Riordan's works. Even though it's a series I've mostly grown out of (I´ve read everything he published up to Apollo's Trials, and the first season of the show, and then quit. Except for the musical, that still slaps), it will always hold a special place in my heart. It's also the series that holds baby's first morally gray character AND baby's first character foils. A LOADBEARING stone in my psyche for sure.
Doll Bones by Holly Black - Now I'll be honest with you that I do not, strictly speaking remember much about this book. Except that it was my first horror novel, and my first Holly Black novel, and that I remember being deadly scared of the premise and the cover, and then unable to put the book down once I started it.
Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan - This series had a VICE GRIP on my mind as a kid. I read the first couple for a school assignment and then just never stopped. I'm not sure if, in retrospect, I recall them being good, exactly, hence the last place, but they were IMPACTFUL. Book 3 follows a plotline where our (TEENAGE) main character gets captured by an enemy kingdom and becomes a slave and then is tricked into getting addicted to drugs to escape the suffering, and then book after that deals a lot with his recovery. And this plot really has no purpose beyond being a Bad Thing That Happened, and I... was not aware you were allowed to just torture your characters like that as a writer. So, yeah. Impactful.
