I think we need to apply this to older movies as well:
The homophobic gag in that rom com,
the racist side character in that coming of age story,
don’t just brush it of as a product of the time, acknowledge that it was bad then and remains a terrible aspect of the film today
[ID: a response to the tweet ‘What’s your hottest literature take?’ (By @cxcope). The reply is from liv / @boredromantic and says:
“ young women’s criticism of the (violent) misogyny in “classic” lit should be taken 100% seriously. if a teen girl says the rapey overtones of 1984 ruin the whole book for her, she’s not less intellectual. this goes double for girls refusing to read classics that are misogynistic”]

psychological violence is violence.
Fourth in a series I of comics about protesting safety tips I made with @this.is.ysabel . This one is about the dangers of police surveillance and how to avoid it if possible. Keep being safe when you go out. Don’t get snatched!
Please sign this petition to stop this clown-looking motherfucker.
A July 21, 2020 update on signatures.
I haven't seen many people saying this, but he's likely created this story on purpose, to change the search results for the terms "mark Zuckerberg Hawaii."
That's now the top result, pushing this down
This was a calculated move by a pr team.
Let’s not forget that there are government officials saying that black and brown kids should go back to school first in all this
TRANSCRIPT:
If you actually have a heart and a soul, you won’t scroll past this video.
*sigh*
Betsy DeVos, someone that our Cheeto in chief just elected as the head of education basically, pretty much just stated that when schools open this fall, that an estimated 0.02% of children will die from COVID 19. I’m not sure if that's just children or just people total in the school system, but bear with me.
That is 14,000 kids that could die from COVID 19. Even just one child is too many. Trump has also threatened that if schools are not opened by November all their funding will be cut. Teachers also have to write death letters to send to parents for when a child has died due to COVID 19.
Please, I beg of you, boost the hell out of this video. This is ridiculous
the faa quietly declared a no-fly zone over part of portland oregon for 30 days amidst people being detained by feds in unmarked vans and no major news organizations are talking about it
the altitude restriction is likely to deter people filming violence/these kidnappings with drones as it is too low to stop planes

July is disability awareness month but a lot of people tend to forget it :/ :/ :/
It’s all OK if you didn’t know, don’t feel bad about it, it’s a great occasion to listen to disabled people! We might not have pretty flags who will catch your attentions like during pride months, but we’re still here!
To clarify, now that I've looked it up, in the US at least July is specifically ADA Awareness Month. A great thing to do this month is look up laws surrounding pwd and our property.
Some examples:
Grabbing a mobility device (wheelchair, cane, walker, etc) without permission is assault.
Pushing someone's wheelchair without permission is kidnapping.
Service dog teams are not required to carry any paperwork or certificates with them.
It's also a good time to look at laws that need to be changed or better enforced:
People on disability income cannot get married without losing their benefits.
People on disability income cannot have more than $2000, including property value (my $300 mattress counts against it), which means they cannot save money if they don't know about ABLE accounts.
Airlines habitually break the law by mistreating passengers' wheelchairs.
Accessible construction is still considered an afterthought rather than a cornerstone of design. And no matter what construction companies say, it's only more expensive to be accessible if you're tearing up existing features to add ramps and such later, rather than doing it from the get-go.
Disabled people are routinely murdered by doctors who determine that they have no "quality of life" and are better off dead.
All these things disproportionately affect disabled people of color. Educate yourself, attend a virtual town hall meeting if you can, and bring these things up. Make things better.

I want to talk about how cryptozoology is often toxic for Natives interested in it. I personally love cryptozoology, but I'm often uncomfortable while going through it because of how much content with w*ndigo, sk*nwalkers, or thunderbirds in it. So I can't stress enough to those involved in cryptozoology, please stop adding these spirits in with cryptids. Mothman, Jersey Devil, Nessie are all cryptids, but not Native spirits.
!!!IMPORTANT FOR BLACK US VOTERS!!!
I saw this on Facebook and went to check my registration status, sure it was fine because I voted recently, but I put in the info and it said I’m not registered
PLEASE, especially if you’re a Black voter, check your registration status at vote.org
Know your status
Does your last name sound anything like Lopez, Martinez, or Rodriguez? Mine does. When I saw this post I checked my voter registration status online with my state. Despite registering just three months ago, I was no longer registered to vote, and I did not receive my ballot. If you live in a mail-in voting state and you didn’t get your ballot, contact your county election official/county clerk for a replacement.
Make sure you check with your state’s voting site as well. I just had the shit scared out of me because that website said I was registered, but when I checked my state’s site (and made sure I had the right county selected) it said I was registered.
It’s worth checking your state’s site every few months anyway (especially when any election is coming up).
Texas is definitely purging voters. They’re also making it harder to re-register if they purged you. I hate that this is true, but POC will need to check and check frequently to stay registered in Texas.
College students, too. In the 2014 election, I had to vote in San Marcos, and I can’t tell you how many Texas State students were turned away because they didn’t cross all the t’s and dot all the i’s on getting their registration transferred and current.
i use a site called TurboVote run by a nonprofit that sends me reminders based on where im registered to vote before every election. it sends me an email to remind me to check my registration, to apply for absentee ballots, etc. it’s helpful so that you can check if you’ve been purged regularly (and participate in the local races that never get any publicity); https://turbovote.org/
Please register and check with your town/city hall often to make sure you are still registered. Please vote.
i’m speechless
This is how the system of white supremacy operates. The media is used 2 create stereotypes like blk on blk crime. They need black men to fill jail cells for the Prison Indstrial complex
You know what? I’m tired of this. I do not know what exactly they are waiting for. I mean our government comes up with “reasons” to invade other countries, such as Syria, like their government is allegedly violating human rights or something like that. but… I mean for other countries, they do not even have to go deep to bomb the fuck out of this place, they can just look at our media. And this has been happening to people of color since the media has existed.
I’ll never forget this 👇🏾
Did a research project on this in undergrad and the results are extremely alarming because it’s not just in imagery, it’s in language used even in the law making process and within our own communities in a completely different way than expected.
Yuuuup talk about this in our media culture and society class where the exact same Katrina sample was used. White supremacy runs far too wide and too deep to be denied that it exists
