If there’s one thing I appreciate about Nolan it’s definitely the way he forces his audience to consume his work non-traditionally. And its not the sound effects that did it, the score, or the 70mm film that did that for me. It was completely, 100% the way he chose to cut the film together and decided not only how it would be told, but provided such minimal context for each narrative that as a moviegoer i was forced to exist with the character in their current reality.
dunkirk is the kind of film you sit on after you see it. at first you’re like, yeah that was a good film. it was a different kind of war movie. then you leave the theater and you start thinking about it, all your favorite moments, the ones that made you bite your nails off. you think about the message and what christopher nolan is really trying to get across with the way he directed it. and then you realize that it’s actually sort of spectacular. because you were in the film. you weren’t just hearing a bunch of dialogue, knowing what someone was going to do next. you were basically living it. between the music and the acting, you were feeling what they were feeling. long story short, if you were unsure of dunkirk at first: sit on it. i guarantee you’ll see the beauty in it.
DUNKIRK IS PHENOMENAL
you don’t understand. It took a huge step back from all the usual Hollywood-esque blockbuster style of plot-driven dramatization, into a very grounded very immersive emotional experience.
When I say emotional, I don’t just mean romantic entanglement and sadness. No, it’s all human emotions. Confused, lost, fear, desperation, selfishness, selflessness, survival, anger, loss, grief, hope. And it’s told in such a limited dialogue lines, because quite frankly we don’t need much dialogue to FEEL those emotions, all we need is to SEE it. And that’s what it was, a very immersive and stunning audiovisual experience that made you feel as if you’re amongst the stranded soldiers who just wanted to come home
Soon, “the twenties” will be used to talk about 2020 instead of 1920
please remember that if your stomach didnt fold when you sit, slouch, or bend over your tummy skin would rip in half when you stood up again
this is both terrifying and reassuring. thanks
unpopular opinion: I believe we are genuinely supposed to read Irene as having been gay until she "met the right man" and fell in love with Sherlock - which I hate, but it is what it is. I don't ship Adlock, I am a Johnlocker, but I never bought into the TJLC theory that Irene is 100% lesbian who was completely playing with Sherlock, when one cannot control their pulse and pupils dilating as clear signs of physical attraction. Like, seriously, c'mon.
i kinda agree, when irene was saying “well i am” to john saying im not gay, i feel like she’s saying that she is (gay) as an umbrella term maybe. especially considering her job as a dominatrix in which her clients can be both male and female, wouldn’t it be too uncomfortable for her if she has to attend to the male clients if she’s lesbian and repulsed by sexual intimacy with men? i kinda always thought irene swings both ways. i think she is attracted by sherlock because he’s interesting and unpredictable to her. i don’t think she’s in love with sherlock though, i think she just likes to tease him, especially considering how guarded he is about any form of intimacy (emotional or otherwise), and she’s just generally very intrigued by him
Ah thank you. I agree 100%. This is how I think I've seen it and understood it all along. Finally someone voiced this opinion.... thank you. I'm not too good with words and I've tried to vocalize this thought for so long. X

Call it a long coat or whatever you want, I still think Sherlock’s coat falls on him like a pretty A-line dress with a very flattering silhouette

Can we talk about the eye roll in the second gif? I mean honestly, this posh boy, so fed up with the damn bag squishing! XD
@bakingsherlycakes I wonder who or what it was that made him so particular about bag squishing This level of annoyance doesn’t come out of nowhere, I’m sure it has a story behind it 😂
