It's that time of year again!
BLACK SALT (also known as WITCH’S SALT) is used primarily for protection, banishing, and repelling.
Those uses aren’t exclusive—it has also been known to feature in baneful magics, and can be used in uncrossing rituals.
WAYS TO UTILISE BLACK SALT
To protect your property from negative spirits, people with ill-intent, unwanted visitors, and negative energy: sprinkle black salt around the perimeter of your property.
To both banish any residual icky energy that a person may have left in your home, and prevent them from returning: sprinkle black salt on the front step and sweep it away. If you’re feeling more traditional (and brave!) you can throw black salt at the back of someone that is leaving your home also.
To prevent nightmares: use in a sachet and keep beneath your pillow.
To repel negativity, unwanted visitors, and rumours/gossip: sprinkle generously across windowsills and doorways.
To cleanse your home and keep nasties from entering: add black salt to a floor wash and go ham on your floor. Focus especially on high traffic areas.
To undo a curse, hex, or other form of malignant magic that has been cast upon you: use in an uncrossing oil or powder. Learn more about uncrossing [here].
To alleviate any negative thoughts and feelings that you are carrying: add a pinch of black salt to your bath, or to an oil with a similar purpose that you anoint yourself with.
Here is our recipe for black salt:
-salt (Oceane uses sea salt)
-ashes (from incense, sage sticks, etc)
-pepper and/or charcoal
Mix together! If you have a mortar and pestle that's great, if not, that's okay!
You can make edible black salt by mixing salt with food-grade carbon. But WARNING: do not eat anything with carbon in it if you're on medication, particularly antipsychotics like antidepressants, anxiety medication, etc. It will cleanse that right out of your system as well!

Our very own Shadows’ Brand protection powder! Inspired by a family recipe, this is our very own concoction to cleanse and protect your space.
This powder is homemade using salt, eggshells, incense ashes, as well as other ingredients picked specifically for their protective properties.

Following our Litha altar kit (inspired by witchytips' "altar in a cup" line on instagram), this is the Lughnasadh altar in a jar.
This kit comes with a jar, whole grain wheat flour, a corn cob ornament, a candle, and popcorn kernels.
Lughnasadh is the First harvest, celebrated by offering the first of every cop to the gods. Some traditional things to do to celebrate Lughnasadh, celebrated on August 1st, are baking bread, making corn dolls, partaking in farmers' markets and harvest festivals, and doing prosperity spells.
You can use this altar as a base, and add your own personal touch to it, with symbols of ghe harvest, dried flowers, and crystals!

Litha
Inspired by witchytips' "Litha in a cup altar", here is the Litha altar in a jar! Set it up on your windowsill or your altar if you already have one.
This kit comes with a jar, sand, a candle, and your choice of flowers.
Litha is the longest day of the year, celebrating midsummer. It is generally celebrated around June 21st in the Northern Hemisphere, but altars can stay up for the whole month of June!
During this summer solstice, it is customary to have a bonfire, charge and cleanse things with solar energy, and practice solar magick.
You can use this altar as a base, and add your own personal touch to it, with symbols of the sun, like crystals and talismans!

30 Days of Witchcraft
Day 14: write a short post about what you do in your specific practice.
Well, I'm very eclectic. I'm very much a jack-of-all-trades. I started my path with the elements, the first book I ever read was Earth Power by Scott Cunningham, and I still hold it very dear to my heart. Over the years, I've moved to worship both Hellenic and Norse deities. My spells, however, are as eclectic as my beliefs. Some spells are as simple as a chant over a candle, others as complicated as finding a specific number of candles of a specific colour, calling the quarters and any god that can help me in my quest, and following a whole recipe. I work with oracle cards and runes, and can create practically anything in a short period of time.

My practice is kind of scattered right now, what with having a toddler and another little one one the way, but eclectic and chaotic are definitely a good description.
With Loki as my Patron, I feel like this is pretty par for the course, however, and my path will most likely get flipped onto its head soon.
I have mostly been reading the cards, making offerings when I can, and writing and working spellwork when I feel something needs a push.

It represents familial bonds, loyalty, trust, being able to rely on those close to you and healthy relationships In reverse, it represents unhealthy co-dependency, clinging to toxic people in your life, false friends and abusive relationships .
