i've tried not to dwell on the situation as to not strain my mental health, and therefore i've refrained from saying anymore, up until now. i want to put a psa out there, as qwel is currently working on a distraction to try and take attention away from the documents
if you've not heard or seen already, there was a leaked screenshot of code (confirmed to be true) for a future toon of the week, for not just one, but three toons. those would the circus troupe. why all three together? well, it makes sense in theory, their characters are rather intertwined- however, the true reason that qwel is doing this is because she knows that the circus troupe are the community's favorites. and i have the feeling this is going to get a lot of people, especially as shes probably gonna make the golden skins kinda crappy, so people will start talking about those instead of the situation.
don't let her distract you, keep putting pressure on her. as far as i'm aware, the blushcrunch discord is still locked down, but, her tiktok and youtube comments are still available.
do not go and harass people, other fans in particular. i've seen so many people (mostly on tiktok, which is lately the Trash Fire for fandoms) getting aggressive with fans who choose to stay in the community and/or make art, even though those fans aren't playing the game or buying stuff for it. i've also seen the same people go after those who are still playing the game, which i do not agree should be the route to go when confronting those people.
continuing to interacting with the fandom does not mean we are supporting qwel. we are interacting with the fandom, not qwel nor the game. art that is made by us fans is not in affiliation with her, we are not advertising for her game. no money is going to qwel, we just want to build community in the fandom. leave us alone. besides, the victims themselves stated they do not care if people continue to engage with the fandom, as long as they do not give monetary support to qwel.
while i know it's frustrating when someone makes the ignorant statement of "well, idc abt the drama (specifically when they use that word. it icks me), im going to keep playing", lashing out at them and insulting them is going to do nothing but stoke the flames on both sides. instead, i think we should take a calmer approach and redirect those people to try different games. especially since a lot of them are, guess what: kids. and i mean like, elementary aged, eight-years-old at the least. a 3rd grader (do i think they should be on tt where all this shit is really blowing up? no, but that is another rant for another time). kids at 8 and around there will not and cannot comprehend the severity of the situation; they simply do not have the mental capacity to. im not saying its right to ignore this, but it's really not a problem that should be pushed onto children to deal with. but to get online and become a keyboard warrior, where you tell a CHILD that they're a horrible person just because they do not understand what's happening is NOT OKAY.
tl;dr from this addition, don't be an ass and harass people still in the community, or those who are still playing the game. interacting in the fandom does not give any support to qwel for it is with other fans, and calmer redirection where replacements to DW are offered to people still playing, especially since most of them are young kids.
i go into an even bigger rant below but you are not obligated to read, it was merely to get it off my chest
harassment gets no one nowhere. in fact, i'd argue it makes things even worse. i've heard many claims though (like i said, primarily on tt. shocker /s), from people trying to justify attacking fans.
- "but, making art of her characters and game still supports her, you're giving her a platform!" a reasonable conclusion to make. yes, in a way, making art and posting does still bring attention to dandy's world. but, it's intention of artists and creators to interact and connect with other fans. creators in the fandom--any fandom--don't make their work as advertisements for dandy's world, or whatever media they're into. so, really, no, absolutely no support in any way is going to qwel when i or another fan posts a piece of work we've made. we don't work for qwel, we're not an marketing team for her, we owe her nothing from our work. we only want to build community with other fans. plus, the victims are fine with the fandom interacting with each other and making art. it's the action of playing the game and buying it's merch that they don't want. which leads me to the next point....
- "if you continue supporting qwel by playing and buying merch, then you're a horrible person and just like her!" while i agree that it is morally frowned upon to play the game, and spend money on it in the midst of this--especially if one is aware--i wouldn't necessarily drop someone immediately to qwel's level; that is a bit of a far comparison. being ignorant is a human instinct to turn away from terrible things that bring us discomfort or unease, as our brains are wired that way; ignorance is bliss for a reason. but, we know that that's not how things work, problems aren't going to disappear from reality just because we shut our eyes to them; they'll eventually come right back, and likely much worse. then, it becomes a choice between remaining ignorant or facing the issue. which is the difference between the two groups of fans who are playing the game. or, one of them, to say.
what's the other difference? age. now, the dandy's world fandom has a wide range of age groups, due to the game play and style that makes it easy for anyone to enjoy. i would say the average age range for a fan of the game, is ~8-13. about a 6 year gap between those two numbers. a lot of developmental gaps too. let's start at the youngest, 8yo. a third grader. a third grader is not going to have the same critical thinking skills and processing ability that a 13yo, a middle schooler, would have. elementary kids are not capable of comprehending big, serious, "adult problems". at that stage of life, they are only concerned about a problem if it directly impacts them. we should not push and expect them to understand something like qwel's allegations (using that word for the legality and i've used "situation" so many times now. anything but drama though), it would be too much for them, hell we shouldn't even make it aware to them. if you want to get those kids away from the game, especially a sibling or a family friend, try gently giving them a nudge to another game like, "hey, this looks fun, let's try this game instead?"
for those who are older, can comprehend the situation, and choose ignorance. there's not much i can say that can be done to sway them, not at least from my experience. teenagers 13 and above tend to be really stubborn, speaking as someone who was (and still sort of is) very stubborn in my ways when i was met with challenge. the best thing to do in the scenario where you cannot reason with a person who will not budge, is to just disengage entirely by stepping away from the discussion and being the bigger person. block people if you have to, don't waste your breath and energy if they're not wanting to even consider your words.
don't be an ass in the midst of this chaos happening in the community. don't get into needless and pointless arguments. 👍
Discord is supposedly saying this is going to affect "only 10% of users", but I really don't believe them at all. It's always going to be way worse and affect more people than what they claim.
So in case anyone needs it:
After Discord announced plans to require age verification for all users, a free, HTML-based tool emerged that aims to bypass facial scans on
hey y'all, it's casey. i have a very serious announcement.
for the last week-ish, there's been discourse in the community about qwelver, regarding the situation with rox that's now resurfaced. i will admit, when this all started happening, i did believe it to be "nothing burger drama" over something that was seemingly settled two years ago and was therefore hesitant to believe what i heard, with the many videos being made left and right trying to disprove or prove qwel's innocence. the release of this doc made by blushcrunch's former team manager, joji, however, makes it apparent that the situation is what the fandom feared. i am disgusted, appalled, shocked. my heart goes out the victims affected by her and rox's actions.
i know that a lot of people are still going to wait for qwelver to say something, myself included (to see if she apologizes), but given what joji has stated in its document, i'm not holding my breath. i also know people are going to continue to play the game despite all this, which unfortunately is out of anyone's control, though i can at least try to urge you (the reader) to hold off on playing it and from buying merch/gamepasses.
that being said, i do not know what the future is for my projects. i can say, that before you all panic, i am not deleting them as that is something i do not have the heart to do. my aus are something i cherish as they are projects i've poured my heart into, purely for my own enjoyment, deleting them would be a huge regret to me. now, whether they are continued or left as they are, or possibly completely rewritten separate from dandy's world, i am still deciding. i know as aus, they are technically completely different entities compared to the source they were inspired by, but there is still a connection with them being fan projects. as of the writing and posting of this announcement, i am leaning towards doing complete rewrites, and moving all of the old content into a single archive blog.
for my main blog (and frankly, my other socials), i am going to hold off on posting any sort of dandy's world content. i am not going to take any of my posts down, but i am no longer going to share any art of the game.
that is all i had to say. please take care of yourselves; i love you guys.
another edit but make it y2k this time. i think i maaaybbee might have gone a bit crazy with the coloring but eh i like the result.
