Art 30 Final Project: The Video Game Experience
Final Theme Project: The Video Game Experience By Francisco Casillas Art30 Done on May, 09, 2023
Final Project Theme Idea
For my final project, I am going to plan and capture the experience of video gaming; for example, taking photos of retro consoles, arcades, and games. And the reason why I select this idea is because I have played video games before in my life when I was little and I have some experience as a Gamer as well, but not fully. Also I want to take photos of, are some photos of video game stores that located around in the Fresno and Clovis area, even taking photos of retro consoles or toys that are inside these type of stores as well.
Artist Research #5: Clement Renzi
"The Three Graces", Clement Renzi, 1972, Fresno State
Clement Renzi was an American Sculptor who was known to create figurative bronze and terra cotta works that relates to the outside world; for example, humans, relationships, animals, and birds as well. Renzi was considered to be a well-known artist across Central California as his works are dedicated and have been popular among other sculptors and artists as well.
Overall from what Renzi has done as an artist and a sculptor, he has created a bronze sculpture that is currently outside of the Music Building at Fresno State, is called "The Three Graces". Renzi did this piece to dedicate to the patrons of poetry, music, and dance; moreover, this piece even connect to the main aspects of Greek Mythology as each Goddess represents beauty, charm, and goodness.
Artist Research Post #4: Allen Bertoldi
Who is Allen Bertoldi? He is known to be a well-known post-war artist who has created a lot of sculptures around in the Fresno and in New York as well. Plus Bertoldi was commissioned to create a steel sculpture, which is currently at Fresno State, and he calls it "The Sidewinder", why? Because the Sidewinder was dedicated to the University in 1979; however, some people don't know what does the Sidewinder represents, despite it has been at Fresno State as of now.
Art 30 Project #3 or 4: Theme Project, Landscaping
Photographic Theme Project: Landscapes By: Francisco Casillas Done on: March 29, 2023 Art 30 - Photography
Artist Research Post #3: Danny DeMeza
Who is Danny DeMeza, he is a a famous painter who creates a lot murals on every single wall; moreover, he even created this here mural right here at Fresno State as this represents the main tribute of Dr. Fleming and he was able to relate this piece to his own comfort zone as an Artist and overcoming these type of new challenges as he created these interesting murals.
Art 30 Project #3 or 4: Create a Theme Proposal
For my photo theme project proposal, I am going to plan it out by taking photos on images that involves on nature, based from the Outside World, such as taking photos of plant life, artwork (sculptures or figures), or taking a minimum of photos on animals (squirrels, birds, or any type of animal that is around in the Fresno area), or maybe take some nice shots of landscapes that relates to this theme. But if this plan doesn't work, then I will start off a new plan that involves with taking photos that relates to Nostalgia that has happen in the early 2000's; for example, like creating some photographic memories from what we used to do back then in the early-2000's, like watching old-school tv shows, playing video games from older consoles, enjoying some snacks that we used enjoy when we were kids back then, and of course, see the fun items that we used to enjoy in our spare times.
Photographer Artist Research Post #2: Vanessa Addison-Williams
Bearing Her Crown, 2020 - 2022, Paper Collage and Acrylic on Canvas, 20 x 24 in.
When it comes to art and photography, Vanessa Addison-Willams is known to create unique form of using common scraps of old newspaper and combine them with paint and color to create a image that relates to what is happening in the Art World, especially how her artwork, as seen in the photo, even shows the aspects on the traditional symbolic meaning that women are confident and strong. Also from I see and look at this artwork, I find this to be very inspirational and unique on how this type of painting/artwork can recreate an interesting story that relates from what we have been facing and encountering as artists and photographers, such as having an endless creativity that we have relates to what we have created in our photographs or artworks that increases our own inspiration as well.
Photographer Artist Research Post #1: Laura Meyer
Life Wants Life, 2022, Mixed Media, Laura Meyer, 6 x 5 x 7 in.
Constellation, 2016, Mixed Media, Laura Meyer
Opening Reception for Mixed Blessings, 2016, Mixed Media, Laura Meyer
To start off with these 3 artwork pieces, Laura Meyer is known to create mixed media artworks as seen in the first 3 photos; moreover, she uses an assortment of items and objects that relates to main aspects of what is happening around in real life, even in her own life. From what I see in Meyer's artworks, I find this inspirational and this relates to main elements of Art and photography, this includes the use of shape, form, spacing, and texture as well. Plus these type of artworks were able to influence my own creative production as an artist and a photographer while understanding what is happening in today's art world.

Art 30 Photo Book Report #1: Alex Webb
Name of Book: The Suffering of Light: 30 Years of Photographs by Alex Webb
Who is Alex Webb? He is well-known photographer who created very complex and vibrant color photographs of either serendipitous or enigmatic moments, often in places with sociopolitical tensions (magnumphotos.com, Alex Webb). Alex Webb was born in San Francisco in the year 1952 and he spent his time and interest in photography while he was in high school; moreover, he even majored in history and literature at Harvard and studied for photography at the Carpenter Center for Visual Arts. (icp.org, Alex Webb).
The type of subject matter that Webb used in his photographs, as I mention this again, is using a vibrant and complex color that shows a remarkable, but formulaic as his subjects - found throughout in the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and else where, his landscapes with people are seen scattered across the frame in a certain, invigorating way that Webb doesn't stage them. One surprising moment is that Webb uses a lot of pattern, shadowing, and enough brilliant sunlight that creates a frieze of figures in well divided setting of colors, like how he took a picture at the time when he went to Africa and shot a picture on how many people board a bus or taking a picture of guy laying face down on his beach towel at the beach.
Overall in this book, Webb has created this to give the artist or photographer's attention as he used his iconic images and photos in many ways of which were taken in far corners of the earth, as his book is dedicated to restore and bring a fresh perspective of his extensive catalog as a photographer. Plus Webb has consistently created photograph to characterized the main aspects of intense light and colors, even richly layered and complex composition that touches on multiple genres on what is happening in the real world. (magnumphotos.com, The Suffering of Light).
For what I think about this book, I am deeply amazed on how Webb was able to recreate his photos in a very eye catching moment after using color and lighting that brings out what is happening in the overall photo. And this type of photography has created a feeling as I see each photo was able to create a story on what we are facing in the real world and what we have encountered in our daily lives, such as war or living in hard conditions that impact our society as of now.
Weekend Photos Project #1: This is a photo on a glorious afternoon after I was amazed by the view of the mountains when they're covered in snow in some parts; however, it came out nice and it looks amazing on the way how I took the photo as well.
This is what I usually do when I am not busy during the weekend, and that would be me getting a refreshing drink from the vending machine as I come back from the University or not.
Whenever I head back to my place, I always enjoy looking and admired most of the plants around the Apartment Complex, as we all know that Spring is coming very soon.
As the days comes to an end, I will always enjoy my Friday Afternoon/nights by going on small road trips as I either head back home or do some groceries.
If I have no work to do or if I am done with my chores, I would simply relax in the patio and enjoy to myself as the sun sets in the Complex.
As the sun sets, it is always the perfect time to play some basketball, despite I never play any basketball before in my entire life; however, there are some kids playing over there as well, as you see in the next photo.
Couple of kids having a friendly game of basketball near from one of the Apartment Complexes
As I explore to take a couple of photos, I spotted this beautiful mural that is located right next to the basketball courts and it looks amazing when it is perfectly painted and has a really good appearance and details as well.
But before I did my last photos by the end of the day, I was able to get a good shot of the water tower while I was at Fresno State as I prepare to leave the campus.
As the comes to a close and as the weekend comes, I will always kick back and enjoy my evening by playing some video games on the Switch and watch either Netflix or Disney+ on the iPad as well, and this is considered to be the last photo for my Weekend Photo story overall and I hope you enjoy looking at my blog and photos as well.
