“Podcasting”
Blank is Emotional is on a hiatus, but not in any real dramatic way. I need to take stock of what I’ve made so far and come up with something more streamlined the next round of episodes. Editing has been hard for me, because I get stuck in a weird hole I can’t get out of. Sometimes an hour of work editing equaled 5 minutes of a show, and it was always for a lightweight, fairly (quasi-intentionally) stupid podcast that would never reach many people.
Whenever it comes back, it will be different, because I need it to be. It’ll still be goofy and weird and dumb, as that is who I am as a person, but it’ll be tighter. A permanent guest host or two would help, consistent segments, etc. Typical comedy podcast stuff, but I know I can make it funny.
I like what I’ve made so far. Blank is Emotional has always been a practice run, something I can selfishly use to find my comedic voice, and it will continue to be. Comedy is where I’m heading, even if it’s in small little clubs at open mics until I’m 40. It’s what interests me the most. There’s been some Blank stuff I’m lukewarm on, but I’ve also made a few episodes that I’m really proud of (”Small Talk on Scone Island” is my favorite, but I also really enjoy “Escapism” and “Shark Mating Season”).
There’s still one episode left that I’ll put up sometime during the hiatus that is a definite extension of what the previous episodes were about, one I recorded with Ashley Rice (from “Performance,” and it’s a super cute one about childhood crushes and etcetera). So there’s something, I guess.
