Okay but if the Devourer hadn't happened Garmadon would've totally been a stay at home dad and Misako would've been the breadwinner for the family.
So we all know how Morro deluded himself into thinking that cursing all 16 (technically 17) realms and defeating Lloyd would magically make him the Green Ninja.
What if he had succeeded?
What if he successfully unleashed the Preeminent and no one was able to stop it? The Ninja are out of the picture, the plan worked, and he’s the "Green Ninja".
…Then what? What would he have done with the rest of his existence?
The Cursed Realm sucked, and now thanks to him, everywhere is cursed the same way. It’s like he’s trapped all over again.
People will despise and fear him. Sure, there will be people that submit to him out of fear. But there will just as many that openly reject him. "The Green Ninja was a hero!! He was kind and selfless!! You ruined our lives!! And for WHAT?!"
They call him many things. Liar. Villain. Demon. Monster.
Claiming the title should’ve been a victory. He took what should’ve been his in the first place.
So why did he feel like an imposter?
As time passes, the euphoria and triumph will fade, leaving emptiness and dread.
Then comes the devastating revelation.
He never wanted this.
But it’s too late. The Queen of the Cursed rules all, and cares not for the tiny ghost she molded into the perfect tool.

He’s one of those villains whose victory would actually be their worst ending, and I LOVE thinking about it.
Like, yeah! Wu was the only person in the present day that actually, genuinely cared about him. Even after everything he had done. And without him there’s no one that remembers him as the orphan who just wanted a home. As anything other than a monster.
He’d be trapped in a hell of his own creation. Spiraling, trying to convince himself that he’s content, he’s happy, this is what he wanted.
But then thinks back to the days he had actually been happy. A home, a life, a father teacher. He thinks back to the day he left a good life behind because he couldn’t take "no" for an answer. He wonders what his life would’ve even like if he had accepted it. Maybe he could’ve been the hero he wanted to be instead of the object of the people’s justified hatred.
I love ghost boy, he makes me crazy. 😄
So I was reading the one Spinjitzu Brothers book I have and I realized something interesting.
We all know that Wu used the be the reckless child and Garmadon was the responsible one. And that they switched.
But while almost everyone assumes it was because of the Great Devourer, this passage confirms that the switch up happened right after Aspheera’s defeat.
BEFORE the Devourer’s bite.
And that’s so much more interesting.
Because it wasn’t due to an unnatural outside force, but rather a result of what both boys learned from the experience.
Wu obviously felt guilty for the whole ordeal and became more responsible so he wouldn’t make the same mistakes again.
And you’d think that Garmadon would only double down on his previous cautiousness, since his fears were proven right. But instead he starts taking more risks like his brother did.
Was he affronted by their father’s disappointed silence? That he did not at least give them some credit for taking responsibility? Taking matters into their own hands and saving the realm?
He must’ve found some fault in his father’s rules if he was more willing to break them.
Or maybe he got some kind of adrenaline rush.
Idk, I just think it’s really interesting how Garmadon’s newfound recklessness and rebelliousness was a natural development rather than another result of the Devourer’s venom. That was all him.

Why is everybody rushing to blame Wu for Lloyd not knowing about the Whispering Woods? The old geezer didn't even know who the fuck the Green Ninja was in the first place. Judging from the fact he thought either one of the OG4, Nya and Morro could become the Green Ninja, he didn't even know the Green Ninja was supposed to be the master of life (energy)!

hey!! i saw ur post on wu and id thought id say that im working on a very big wu analysis (currently 40k words as im going through all the episodes. stuck on the beginning of s11 rn) and ill be using some of the unnecessary hatred and criticism as talking points cause good lort some of the hatred is very, very easily disputed in canon
also whenever someone brings up wu not telling the ninja anything i always think about garmadons line in s4 "theres things we dont want you to know"
plus if wu told them everything at once theyd justify it as him trauma dumping

You’re SO right because people unironically blame him for stuff that is OBJECTIVELY not his fault. Like Garmadon’s corruption and Aspheera’s villainy. All you have to do is actually watch the show and use critical thinking.
And yeah, people complain all the time about Wu never telling the ninja anything, but it’s really not hard to understand why considering how OLD he is (4,000 - 5,000 according to Tommy) and how he’s been fighting bad guys since he was an actual KID. Obviously he’s not gonna be thinking about all of them! Plus he has no reason to believe that they’d be a problem again. How could he have possibly anticipated Morro or Aspheera returning? Acronix was the only exception.
And since you mentioned Garmadon’s "because there are some things we don’t want you to know" line, you should also mention that Garmadon also knew all the things Wu did, and he never told any of the ninja either. So if Wu deserves shit for keeping secrets so does Garmadon.
But of course there’s a positive bias towards Garmadon and a negative bias towards Wu. Which gets in the way of critical thinking.
Like you said, even if Wu did tell his students absolutely EVERYTHING like the fandom wants, they’d just hate on him for trauma dumping. "How dare he dump all his problems and emotional baggage on these teenagers!" I’ve seen it happen in other fandoms.
Not like the ninja would remember all that information anyway. (Again, think of how many villains Wu has fought over his very, very long life, and how he’d have to mention all of them on the off chance that they’d return. Even people like Morro who weren’t villains to begin with).
I can’t wait to read that analysis when it’s done!

There’s no one in this fandom that infuriates me more than the people who genuinely, unironically blame Wu for the bite.
Those jerks actually make me sick.
Wu was an innocent child, acting as a child would. Who had absolutely NO WAY of knowing what would happen. He wasn’t even the one that sent the katana flying over the goddamn wall! That was Garmadon!! Yet there are people that would say to this child’s face "Yeah, it’s completely your fault your brother got poisoned with evil. You suck." Despicable. Absolutely despicable.
You know the absolute worst part? The fact that we KNOW who was TRULY responsible for Garmadon’s fate.
"It was I, who possessed the serpent that bit your hand. It was I, who corrupted the Great Devourer, and set him against you."
The Overlord literally admitted to being the SOLE REASON for Garmadon’s corruption. That he PLANNED IT, so he could eventually serve as a vessel. Which is exactly what happened in season 2.
Wu haters often use the bite to pin literally EVERYTHING that followed on Wu. But in reality it was The Overlord, who, unlike Wu, ACTUALLY PLANNED THIS SHIT.

But nooooo, somehow WU is still to blame. "He still should’ve taken responsibility", "he still shouldn’t have lost the sword in the first place", shoulda shoulda coulda coulda woulda woulda-
Shut up. Shut the hell up. Nevermind the fact that it’s so EASY to criticize Wu when you have hindsight- It doesn’t matter. It literally doesn’t matter. Why? Because the Overlord had always PLANNED this. It wouldn’t have mattered if Garmadon never went to get the sword, if the sword had never been lost, if they hadn’t even been playing in the yard that day. Garmadon would’ve been bitten anyway, because the Overlord had always intended to corrupt him and use him. If not that day, he would’ve found the opportunity to poison him another day, in different circumstances. And if not Garmadon, it would’ve been Wu, which wouldn’t have been any better. (Unless it had to be Garmadon, then he was screwed either way). He had personal beef with the FSM and was always going to screw with his family.
It was all by his design.
The fact that even now, years after this reveal, there are STILL people choosing to blame Wu over the fucker that DELIBERATELY, INTENTIONALLY, AND MALICIOUSLY orchestrated the tragedy makes me furious and extremely disappointed.
I can’t even look at Spinjitzu Bros angst on TikTok without some asshole in the comments going "Wu’s fault btw". SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
I’ve long since found that they aren’t worth listening to. They chose petty hatred over media literacy and critical thinking. This stupid take belongs in the same category as "Kai should’ve been the Green Ninja" and "Nya should’ve been with Cole".
Wu deserves so much better from this fandom.
Forever upset that ninjago went the creation = good, destruction = bad route instead of recognizing that they are two halves of change. Also it’s Lego for crying out loud, breaking apart your creations is an important part of the play cycle. Also the Lego movie tapped into this by saying permanence = bad, which I think is much more interesting.
It's just another symptom of Ninjago's obsession with "pure good" and "pure evil" characters and powers.
Like dragons were pretty unanimously Pure and Heroic and Good until DR, the Overlord was our one-off evil dragon and even then the writers and designers felt so passionate about retconning that.
Ninjago just loves saying some things are fully good and some are fully bad, no matter what which like... sure it's a kids show, nuance can't exactly go too deep, but the whole "dealing in absolutes" thing is pretty tricky to defend.
This is why I hate it when people say that Wu inherited only his father’s dragon side and Garmadon inherited the oni side. Not only is that objectively untrue, but it also contributes to that idea of pure evil and pure good.
Garmadon, the evil brother, is mostly Oni. While Wu, the good brother, is mostly Dragon. Because Dragon = good and Oni = bad.
I really wanted the original show to have both brothers use Creation AND Destruction. Cuz they shouldn’t just be restricted to one side. They have both Dragon and Oni blood.
And they were so close! We saw Garmadon use Creation for evil during the Oni Trilogy, when he created the Colossus.
We just needed to see Wu use Destruction for good. Use the power of the Oni to protect.
But unfortunately the writers never let Wu use his creation powers. Let alone his destruction powers.
They had a PRIME opportunity in Crystallized, but the writers treated Wu like he wasn’t a part of the FSM bloodline that season.
Oni Form? Yeah only Lloyd has to unlock it even though Wu’s part Oni too because we have to keep the drama exclusively Lloyd and Garmadon.
Dragon Form? Nah just give him mechanical wings.
Yes, I’m still salty.
Honestly Wu tapping into his Oni powers would’ve done wonders for Lloyd’s "all Oni are evil" mentality that season.
Y’know, I feel like Spinjitzu Brothers really puts into perspective just why it makes sense Wu hasn’t told the ninja about every single villain he’s ever fought…
Because that would be a multi-day, possibly multi-week lecture.
Like, Wu is at least a thousand years old, possibly several thousand, and he’s been a ninja going on adventures and misadventures since he was an actual teenager. Not mentally/physically a teen while chronologically older… an actual teenager. He’s been fighting enemies like Nineko, Tanabrax, The Sphinx, etc. his whole life, so of course he’s not gonna think about every single one of the baddies he’s fought and their exact chances of returning with a vengeance, he’s too focused on whatever villain is currently making themselves a problem to deal with that. Plus he deserves to savor what little relaxation time he gets, like, give the man a break Lego plz-
Also- Morro wasn’t even a villain to begin with. He was a bitter student who ran away. Wu had no reason to think he’d come back as a vengeful ghost with a whole ass army.
So Wu would ALSO have to list all the people who just- have a grudge against him. No matter how petty. On the off chance that they go from an average joe to a world ending threat.
Yeah that lecture’s taking YEARS.
And you know the Ninja are naaaawt remembering all that shit. I mean, Zane could. Nindroid. But the others? Nah.
Give Lloyd a few centuries and he’d be the exact same.
