Is that a fucking Akira slide reference
Just watched the newest episode of My Adventures with Superman where Lois and Clark's future son visited them and I gotta draw it with the (soon to be) Montgomery-Garmadon fam
I worry the fandom is on its way to creating a second Misako out of Reginald...
I think it's a bit more justified for Reginald because he's the only ninja parent I can recall who like actively talks down to his son, neglects his needs, treats him as a joke, and puts minimal time aside for said son.
Obviously he's not the ONLY bad parent (Sora's parents, Garmadon, one can even make a case for Lou, although he has made amends) but like he's the one bad parent wherein his bad behavior is genuinely such a major part of the plot.
Frak spends most of his time lamenting that he's never enough for his father and that either his father never appreciated him or cared for him. I think a lot of people with bad parents can relate to that and kinda project their own complex experiences onto him which has muddied what his actual character is (and has overlooked the obvious setup of him WANTING to change as seen in episode 7) but it's also like, I can justify that kind of behavior more than the endless swathes of hate heading Misako's way from all four cardinal directions, tbh.
no, no I think you're 100% following my line of logic here.
This is why i say i worry we're going to make another misako. It hasn't happened yet, but the stage is SET.
Misako's introduction has a lot of loaded language. "I don't remember my mother" "she abandoned me" the story obviously wants to convey that mistakes were made. Feelings were hurt. All that. And Lloyd is obviously hurt by his mom's actions, doesn't want anything to do with her, etc. And because she's one of the only parents who got that realistic kind of language applied to her actions, that sort of well considered and relatable response to her actions, that first impression has lead a lot of people to completely discount any development in her story or the characters' relationship. They see the initial 'relationship is bad' presented in a relatable way and then take the conclusion to the extreme. So here we are however many years later, and we can't hear the end of all thse season 2 feelings even though they don't make sense anymore.
Reginald has all the same set up, and is leaving even more time to let people form their opinions and project their baggage and solidify their judgements, and I worry once the show inevitably gives this intentionally goofy character his well telegraphed character arc, people will be disproportionally mad and form life long grudges against the guy because they've already decided that he is the embodiment of every bad parenting quality imaginable, simply because the show tried to depict a complex family dynamic using realistic language for once, instead of it being cloaked behind also being an over the top magic wielding villain turning his daughter into a snake or whatever.
Where the show has injected nuance, I fear the fandom will not follow. For right now, that reaction makes sense... but it won't for much longer.
I think Reginald will have a few benefits that Misako didn't have in the eyes of the fandom.
More time to develop and heal ON-SCREEN than Misako
Man
More thought out character arc than Misako (Hagemans didn't gaf)
Man
Has already shown some form of regret for his prior behavior
Man
Unfortunately I do think we should be taking into account his gender wrt this whole discussion 'cus while shitty and absentee fathers are VERY common for people and I COULD see the hate train continuing, it's very fair to remember that this fandom has some rather severe implicit and explicit biases. Of course I think you'd be more knowledgable in Ninjago fandom sexism than me but y'know, always interesting to keep in mind, especially with THIS fandom.
Garmadon and your big ass umbrella club/shield, you will always be famous to me.
Also, does anyone have better quality images of this page?
is this any better? :D
The readonlinecomic website is available again n this is the highest quality one I could find
Bug
Still obsessed with the fact that Roby named his messenger dragon Hermes. Like ok greek mythology nerd.
These Garmadon involvements lately by the Ninjago DR team is rlly freaking me out
Ngl my thoughts about Jaya when i first got into Ninjago was "damn when they got married they probably won't have to worry about water and electricity bills"
My personal favorite fanarts i made of baby Lloyd and adult Lloyd! (so far)
Doc Wyatt confirmed that Fugidove's real name is Lloyd days ago so i gotta draw an idea that popped up on my head based on that info lol
He's more of an evil broadcaster girl type of guy iykwim
(not to mention Kreel is cancelled)
lmao what fugidove's first name is Lloyd???
Ppl saying "Koko is better" gives off the same energy as "Man of Steel / Henry Cavill better"
Hey, so I know I havenāt posted anything Ninjago these past two weeks, (Sorry), but hereās me making up for it!
Every time Misako is horribly mischaratcerized as an abusive mother, heartless cheater, evil woman, or bigot while Lloyd (or Garmadon) is portrayed as a "UwU twaumatized cinnamonwoll bean!", an angel has it's wings violently torn away. (Bonus points if they make an AU/Rewrite where Koko or some random ass oc replaces Misako as Lloyd's mother, even more points if the creator KILLED OFF Misako because they hate her so much)
Is Misako well written? No! But I am so sick of people acting like she's this vile monster while excusing the man who CHOOSE to try and kill his son. I'm FULLY convinced if Garmadon did kill Lloyd people would still do INSANE mental gymnastics to justify or excuse it so they can blame Misako for it. Hell, they (the show runners) could make a mom character who is ACTUALLY evil and abusive but they (the ""fans"") would still do mental gymnastics to say Misako is worse.
If you think Misako is the worst mom/parent/partner or character in all of fiction... you need to consume more media, straight up.
Kathleen Barr not being a public person is a blessing in disguise because "those" Ninjago fans would 100% harass her off the internet.
I'm gonna come out and say oc x Garmadon is cringe as fuck if the narrative is "to give Garmadon a better lover and better mother / parent figure to Lloyd" like damn who do you think you are? I KNOW there are some ppl on this fandom who either trying to replace Misako or straight up killing her in their AU or some shitšš. Like there's this person who has an oc where (iirc) the backstory is that Lloyd is her and Garmadon's biological son and Misako is like still relevant but is just...there? Ew Cringe. Then there's this one survivalshipper who made Misako dead. Idc if they're a decent person irl at this point it's just hard to see how this is "just for fun", atleast to me personally. I have nothing against oc x canon I have one myself (on another fandom) but the constant Misako erasure that factually occuring among this fandom is such a pussy of a move, the audacity and entitlement is appaling.
>> ...Yeah. I think Lloyd is staying My least favourite Ninja.
>> I struggle heavily to experience compassion, so he is basically saying all of that to Me. For someone going on and on about compassion, you sure do not have a lot of it for the man right in front of you who is genuinely, explicitly trying to learn how to have it.
>> He expends so much energy having compassion for Harumi, who is giving him zero signs of actually trying or wanting to change, but when faced with Garmadonāāwho IS trying to changeāāhe will not hear a word of it?
>> Lloyd is seeming like those āempathsā who demonise less palatable mental disorders.
>> Also, he wrote the message upside down.
It's simple, really. Garmadon is his father and you'd expect more of your parents (as one should, they bring you to the world so that's their choice to bear responsibility), while Harumi is some other girl he met on one fateful day that he didn't know until his 16-17 years of living. It's not that complicated to grasp.
The Amazing Digital Circus if it was written by Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt
If you think about it, the depth of Misako and (normal form) Garmadon's relationship is not that displayed much compared to when Garmadon is not in his normal form. Like the tent scene? *Muah* angsty, complicated, the yearning is in the air. The hallway scene? painful. The season 10 finale? How can a short lasted dialogue carry so much bittersweetness, and the way they say each other's names in that scene add a sting to it. The time Misako and Sensei Garmadon got to interact that much was in season 4 and it was not a very decent circumstance eitheršš.
It's crazy to me that Misako have more chemistry with resurrected Garmadon (citing 15th anniversary music video), or maybe it's just a matter of screentime
