That's true. Yeah I am, always have been.
Drew sat in the very back of the library, staying away from any distraction that some of the library goers could cause. His nose was in one of the many books that was scattered around him. As he tried to find the right quote from the book in his hands to type down for his thesis.
As the school year was coming to an end more of his papers were due. To be quite frank, the young boy had been putting it off. So now on one of the nicest days ever he was sitting inside working on his thesis. Drew continued to read his book, when he heard someone speaking loudly. The voice seemed familiar to him, but he couldn’t put the voice to the face. So this really didn’t make him feel bad when he was going to tell the person to be quiet. Placing his book on the table he walked over to wear the loud talking was coming from.
"Oh, it’s just you." Was the first thing to leave Drew’s lips.
"Oh hey Drew! Didn't expect to see you here," Cora mumbled as looked up momentarily from thumbing through the murder mysteries section. "Agatha...ah here it is Agatha Christie!" She smiled triumphantly at the bottom shelf of the bookcase. Dropping her backpack and skateboard on the floor next to her, she crossed her legs and started going through the titles while singing along to her music a little louder than she should have.
Looking up at him she asked, "What are you up to?" But once she saw his stressed expression, she pulled out her earbuds and said with a concerned look, "Is something wrong?"
Calm After A Storm || Joseph & Cora
Joseph hadn’t noticed anyone bump into him, mainly because he was distracted focusing on everything else. It was a common mistake, of course, and it was clear that the other person had made the same one. The boy quickly turned to face her and shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck as he did.
"It’s okay," the young man replied, and smiled politely at her. "I wasn’t really looking, either," he added with a shrug. "There’s not many people around today, so I guess it’s kind of natural to just walk without looking, right?"
Cora smiled shyly up at him and replied, "Yeah that is true, but to be honest for some reason I never really look where I'm going. Which is probably why people get so ticked off when I bump into them on accident. But thanks for not biting my head off."
The two began to walk side by side as the wind blew quietly through the deserted street. She looked down and started buttoning her jacket after turning off her iPod and tucking her earbuds into one of her many pockets. Thinking hard as she ran her fingers through her curly red hair, she squinted slightly at his face, "Have we met before? You seem awfully familiar."
Try that answer again but this time I want you to say “because fuck you that’s why” can you just do that?
Sorry Rhett, niceness is I guess my default setting. But don't worry with some help from you I'll fix that!
A gift from whom?
My mom. She buys me weird stuff but it makes her happy so it makes me happy too.
My memories decided now was a good time to show up, turns out it’s not a good time.
That is the absolute story of my life.
Scared, confused, and exhausted. Sorry for dropping my problems on you.
No it's fine I'm more than willing to talk with you about this. What made you feel this way?
Why are you wearing them here? Are you a college student or have you already given up?
Because they're comfy!
Calm After A Storm || Joseph & Cora
Everything happened so fast. Joseph hadn’t taken much part in the events that took over the last couple of weeks in town, only learning about it from announcements on the radio, posters and things outlining the many events that transpired since the Festival of Lights.
Even so, the young man felt a certain peace now, since everything seemed to be much calmer, as if thigns had begun anew just like that. After stretching his arms behind his head, Joseph removed the apron that hung around his waist and released his long hair from its ponytail-like imprisonment, allowing it to flow freely down to his neck, just like he preferred it. A long hair like that let him feel some sort of unusual freedom, as did his casual clothing when it wasn’t a work day. Just a little thing he enjoyed to feel when making contact with his environment.
With a calm and precise movement, the man left the diner and walked down the sidewalk, observing the passing cars under the light of the setting sun, as well as the spring blossoms and leaves being carried around by the lazy afternoon breeze. He smiled and let out a sigh, feeling much more relaxed than before. Of course, that was because he hadn’t noticed someone close-by.
Cora walked her usual fast pace with her earbuds in and her head down. Not going anywhere in particular she didn't care where she ended up. She was just beginning to feel better again but then it happened. The flashbacks started once again. The old memories of her and her late father. The happy times, the sad ones, but especially the ones from the night he died. She didn't want to go through this. Not again.
With her usual clumsiness, she was completely oblivious to the man walking ahead of her and bumped into him. She hastily pulled out her earbuds and quickly apologized, hoping to avoid the harsh words she was sure were to follow.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you. It was an accident!"
They’re very…interesting.
Good interesting? They were a gift!
What about my pajamas?
It’s okay, I’m having a bad day, sorry.
No it was completely my fault. Aww what happened?
That’s not too bad.
Yeah, I only light up when I'm upset. Which is kinda often actually.
