The loss of Emily changed Thackery’s life. Before the witches, Thackery and Emily were extremely close. He would often tease her for following him around but he loved it. Sometimes he would rush through his own chores on the farm so that he could hurry and help Emily with hers. After they finished, he’d follow her to the field where they would weave flowers together into crowns and necklaces. Losing his sister was by far the worst thing that ever happened to him. In comparison, the pain of the curse seemed minimal at first. It felt worse the second time around. His dream is to carry on the work of his family farm. Maybe make it a safe haven for abused animals. Thackery would do anything to break the curse that ties him to the restaurant and return to working on the farm. The farm is the only thing he has left of his family and he’s terrified of losing that too. 

🐾 Thackery’s father would often reprimand him for being too sensitive. When he was younger he would try to emulate his father to “act more like a man.” It never seemed to be enough. 

🐾 He wears a flower necklace that he never takes off. He chose a flower closest to Emily’s favorite, a flower that resembles a daisy. It’s small but he sees it as a tribute to her. 

🐾 Due to his history with the Sanderson sisters, he developed a deep aversion to magic. He knows the sisters use magic for evil, but he still doesn’t trust magic of any type.

🐾 There were a few boys back in Salem that Thackery had flings with but in the end, they always ended up getting married to one of the girls in town. Of course, they had to. Knowing this didn’t ease the pain of them pretending he was some stranger they couldn’t remember. 

🐾 The adjustment to life as a cat was easier than Thackery expected. Of course, he preferred his human form but over the years he’s learned to accept it as part of himself. The litter box though, that he always hated.

Coraline figured a change of scenery was good for her. She didn’t know why changing her scene from Coolsville to New Salem sounded like a brilliant idea, but hey, brilliant ideas only came to her in moments of extreme pressure. Right now, there was no pressure though. Sure, she was still trying to get herself together after her last Bedlam sighting, but she was determined to do something normal for once in her life. So shopping was something. This mall was a little…lame, but hey, there had to be some gems around there somewhere. As she walked through the mall she sighed, thinking that she spotted someone she knew, but really wasn’t too sure. Instead she just kept walking, trying to tell herself that it was nothing, but as she looked again and thought she saw the familiar jet black hair and sinister smile she turned quickly and ran right into someone. “Shit! I’m sorry I thought I saw….I don’t even know anymore.”

Sometimes Thackery wandered over to the mall after work. Mainly, on the days where he didn’t feel like whiskers were going to sprout any second. It was nice feeling like they weren’t being watched. There were way too many people here for anyone to follow him around. Hopefully. The food from the diner was getting old. Thackery wanted anything green or fresh. He beelined to the food court for a signature smoothie and salad combo from the Garden of Eatin’. His mission was interrupted when the girl in front of him made a sudden turn and collided with him. “Woah!” When he saw the expression on the girls face, his surprise immediately shifted to concern. “Are you okay? You look very... frightened. I can help you hide from someone if you need.” Thackery straightens and scans the crowd before turning back to the girl in front of him. “I’m going to get a smoothie, if you want to join. Looks like you could use one.”

Thackery wanted to see Allison for ages now. He had asked her to visit him at the diner on one of the slower nights so that they could get away with talking. No one was around to catch him talking to her. Not that there were any customers around that cared. Mary and Sarah would find any reason to make his life more miserable than they already have. So he leaned over the counter and talked to her over the bar. “It’s been horrid here. That blonde one can’t seem to leave me alone. Even trying to ignore her sets her on me.” A bell from behind interrupts him and Thackery slides a plate of french fries off the window and onto the counter between him and Dani. “I need to find out more about this family. There has to be a way out of this.” A customer calls him to the other end of the counter for a refill and he grabs a drink for Allison before returning to her. “Okay Allison, please tell me, what on earth have you been up to?”

The girl at sitting at the booth in the corner caught Thackery’s attention immediately. He smiled at the customer he as helping and headed over. “Hello Dani, promise you she’s not here. Would you like me to get you a soda?” These visits from his friends were the only thing that made coming to work worthwhile. Well, and the way this place controlled his curse. “Luckily, the customers aren’t that bad tonight. You’re a happy sight. Are you here for business, pleasure, or the delicious food?”

Oh she just loved it when he looked so mad that she was there. It just made her want to whisk him away from his cruel fate with Mary and lock him up in one of her cages. She would even get him a litter box and some catnip if he so wished. “I need you to entertain me. And it better be good because if it’s not….I’ll have to lock you up until I can get you to be a better performer.” She tapped her fingers against the counter and grinned at him. “And let us not forget what happens to you when you’re away from the cafe for too long….or if I grow bored of you….you could be growing some whiskers before your shift ends if you’re not very careful.”

“Hm. locked up here with you? I’m afraid I’ll have to decline that invitation.” Thackery notices the mess of menus on the counter and looks away from Sarah, knowing it will only infuriate her further. He has to have his fun somehow. Without looking at her he continues, “Let’s see, how can I appease you today? Steal candy from a baby? Do a little dance?” He looks back up at her and smiles. “There’s one tiny flaw inn your plan.” Thackery leans in close and whispers, “I’d rather spend eternity as a skinny rat-catching house cat instead of a single evening with you.” He leans back and sends her a charming smile. “Now, anything else I can help you with ma’am?”

Nothing made her day better than messing with Thackery Binx. He was such a cute fellow and she knew he didn’t swing her way but that didn’t mean she couldn’t torment the guy a little while he was on the clock. She couldn’t tell sometimes if he knew who she was beyond Mary’s sister, but she didn’t really care. What was he going to do about it? Hiss at her? When she entered The Black Cat she hit the little bell at the front counter several times until he appeared. “Ooooh Thackery,” she called out. “Come play with me. I’ve had a rather long day.”

Thackery threw down the rag he was wiping the dishes when he heard the bell ding for him. He usually dealt with sly comments at him wasting the time, but dry dishes meant less accidents. He was tired of cleaning it up when someone broke a plate. Why do these people have such slow reflexes? Thackery arrives at the front counter with a sigh, wiping his hands on his apron. “May I help you... Sarah?” He tries his best not to say the name with venom and fails. “What could you possibly need today?”

✨ Biography:

Thackery Binx has only ever known New Salem. They had a farm that was a little too close to the woods for comfort, but Thackery and his little sister Emily were told at a very young age how dangerous those woods are. Stories of witches that feasted on children’s souls was enough to keep them away from it, at least that was what Thackery thought. He did his best to go to school and work for his family, which normally meant a lot of physical work and taking care of his sister Emily, which he didn’t mind because she was his entire world. He was very protective and he wanted nothing more than for her to grow up and have a good life. One night when they were playing around outside, it had been getting late and Thackery told Emily to come inside, but he hadn’t waited for her before heading inside. The singing came soon after. A hypnotic melody that seemed to be coming from the forest. Before Thackery knew it he was running outside, desperatley chasing after his sister who was following that voice into the woods. He almost caught up to her, but she had been snatched away by three women. They feasted on her soul while Thackery tried his best to stop them, but he was too late to save his sister. The witches were the infamous Sanderson sisters and after they murdered his sister, they cursed him for fun. Thackery remembers the way it felt when his transformation started. It was painful and agonizingly long and he had passed out from the pain. When he awoke…he was a black cat.

The pain didn’t stop there. He tried to come back to his parents but they just shooed him away like a stray cat. Thackery was cursed in this form for years and watched as his family grieved him and his sister, before passing away from the heart ache. He thought he was going to be stuck this way forever and then one Halloween night that changed. Allison Watts, Max Dennison, and his younger sister Dani faced the Sanderson sisters, almost meeting the same fate he did, but they won. And when they did….Thackery’s body returned to normal. He was elated and he had vowed to watch over these three as he adjusted back into society. No one believed it was him at first and he had to work really hard to get back into things, but he eventually did. He inherited his family’s farm and did his schooling from home to catch up. Years passed and he finally felt normal again. And then it all went to hell again. A thick fog covered New Salem and when it was gone….Winifred Sanderson was in charge of the town and no one could remember the wicked deeds done by the Sanderson sisters. He wasn’t sure why he had his memories still, but then it started again. First it was only during the full moon. The familiar pain of the curse he had would consume him and then he was back in his black cat form. Then it started happening whenever the sun went down. Thackery had no idea why the curse was hitting him again, but he knew it was only a matter of time before he was trapped again. He had stormed into the mayor’s office and demanded answers, but Winnie just cackled on him and cursed him to work at the restaurant her sister Mary recently opened up. He was stuck there because it was the one place that seemed to keep his curse under control and it was maddening. Despite all of this though, he was determined to find answers. He got together with Dani, who remembered it all still, and they decided to use the new openings and opportuinies they were given from the borders falling to find a way to bring the Sanderson’s down for good. Thackery goes out into Animania during the day, and by night he is back in New Salem, working for the women he hates.

Zero Skellington: He sympathizes for the younger guy. He seems like he is stuck in some pretty dark stuff and Thackery knows what that is like better than anyone. He looks out for him.

Ryan Evans: He’s a lot sometimes, but Thackery really likes him. Maybe a little too much. Still, he has so much going on that he’s sure Ryan won’t even look at him as more than a pal. 

Charlie Cheshire: He doesn’t trust that guy. There is something very dark to him that Thackery is hyper-sensitive to because of his curse. He tries to avoid the guy, but the guy tends to be there when he wants it the least.
