My monitor is 1440p, but I've started taking Sims 3 pics in 5K. In the Nvidia Control Panel I set the Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) factor to 4x, then I can change the monitor resolution to 5120 x 2880. I load the game and stage everything before I go into the game options and change the resolution to 5K and take the pics. When I'm done I change the settings back to what they were before.
It's easier to edit big screenshots, and I resize them to 1440p before uploading. No need for huge screenshots on Tumblr. The pics will still be sharper, have deeper colours and much less jaggies.
I don't bother with this for simple short stories, though.
It's not a good idea to play in 5K on a 1440p monitor because everything in Build/Buy/CAS(st) will be tiny and the text almost impossible to read, so it's only good for taking screenshots. If you have a 1080p monitor you can take 4K screenshots. An old or low spec PC or laptop might overheat if you use a higher resolution than normal, so be careful.
You can use DSR for normal gaming too, if you have a good gaming PC. Then you set the DSR factor to a value like 2x, but without changing your monitor resolution. The graphics card will downsample the larger image to your native resolution and it will be a little crisper.
