I've gone. Not one for goodbyes, I thought it best to slip out quietly. Love to you all, Giles.

googling shit like "why do i feel bad after hanging out with my friends" and all of the answers are either "you need better friends" (i don't; my friends are wonderful) or "your social battery is drained, you need to rest and regain your energy levels" (i don't; i've got tons of energy, it's just manifesting as over-the-top neurotic mania). why is this even happening. it's like some stupid toll i have to pay as a punishment for enjoying myself too much
I actually, genuinely think social event aftercare would fix me. I need someone to put me to bed and say "you were fun today and no one hated you"
#theres a thing called 'larp drop' thats essentially this#esp since when having a great time you might be more inclined to disregard your limits and ignore discomfort#(and forget to eat/drink if its larp whoops)#and then once you have a moment to yourself it all comes crashing in#source: once forgot to eat at larp and had a sobbing fit in my car that ended the instant i bit into a chicken nugget - @queerfarmgremlin
this is also true of festivals, conventions, pride parades, concerts, and any situation where you have a lot of fun with other people!
A supervisor of mine was talking to me about this. They recalled how they'd given up certain activities because of the huge dopamine rush they would get, which led to really bad crashes afterward. When they explained it to me, I got blasted back immediately to all the random bouts of anxiousness and even guilt (because I didn't know what to call it at the time) I would come down with, usually after hitting streaks of things going really well for me and having a really great time. I said, "THAT'S WHAT THAT IS??" They told me when they discussed it with their therapist, the therapist called it a "dopamine crash" and says it's actually super common in people who have ADHD.
i used to publish papers with her but then she took et al in the divorce
I think a big part of the reason Pokopia is hitting so hard for so many people is that we have had an absolute glut of post apocalyptic media that take the "humans are the monsters/disease/problem" angle. Even the most well meaning solar-punk I can think of often have this undercurrent of 'humanity's nature is inherently short sighted and exploitive and they must constantly be kept in check to protect the environment' which slides very quickly into 'the world would be better off without humans in it to complicate and threaten things'.
But Pokopia fully does not do that. The world is lonely without humans and lesser for humanity's absence. So much of the game is about how Pokemon miss humans and are struggling to make sense of a world without us, how the ecosystem is just as hurt by our absence as any other species, and how the things we left behind, even in ruins and burned shells, are often beautiful and strange and helpful to the Pokemon who find them.
Pokemon have always been this allegory for the natural world- back to the original idea of the games inspired by children who caught bugs and kept ant farms- and thus the relationship between Pokemon and humans becomes this allegory for the relationship between nature and humans. And Pokopia looks you dead in the eye and says "the world would be poorer without humans, and if we all vanished tomorrow the echoes of who we are and the things we did would still ring out for eons uncountable. We would be missed and mourned and searched for and the wound of our absence would be deeply felt on this earth for the rest of its turning. The actions of a few greedy short sighted humans will never change that."
And that. That hits.

Pokemon headcanon that once Absol are studied and people realize they prevent disasters instead of causing them, particularly dangerous workplaces get themselves a workplace Absol and it also decreases accidents.
Construction sites and fishing ships and factories will have one that pretty much just lazes about until it just gets up howling one day and knocks a dude down. They almost never figure out what would have happened but they're always like "yes absol thank you absol I am so grateful to be on the floor right now. Can I offer you a treat in this trying time"
Diversity win! Absol is OSHA Compliant!

Me last week: Oh the new Pokemon game is just Animal Crossing x Pokemon? Interesting, I'll probably finish it in like a week or two.
Me after a couple days of playing: Humanity will suffer at the hands of climate change, and it will destroy the life you had, but hope is evergreen if you let it. It is ok to grieve the loved ones and the old life you have lost but you must rebuild. You must continue seeking a fulfilling life and new people to share that life with after acknowledging your memories. Yet rebuilding and living on requires a community, and you must meet the needs of your community for your community to meet your needs. No one builds a house alone and your materials need to be processed by someone. Talk to the people in your community, even if you are different. Share in the joy that is living together and coming back after disaster, for we are all worthy of a good life. You are allowed to live, even if your trainer is not anymore. And more importantly, despite the Earth undergoing climate change, you can still find fruit on trees and metals in the ground. Earth continues to live, just like you.
Help I can't stop playing this game
