After surviving the attack on the Warden’s, per Zevran leaving the scene, assuming Tali dead on the Warden’s part, and residence of Denerim finding him breathing and showing mercy on him - Taliesen makes a slow recovery.

The Warden’s live, Zevran is gone, and his crew is dead. If he returns to the Crows, he will be killed before his Master for failing. As it is now, they should assume he is dead, and returning to face death while may be the honorary thing to do, is also suicide. 

Fearing the repercussions of the Crows more than death itself, Taliesen mutilates his own face by burning it, hoping to change himself enough so he will not be recognizable should Antivan Crow spies be about and find him alive. He also burns away the tattoo’s on his skin that directly affiliate him with the Antivan Crows - a ritual that once brought him pride.

In a new country, Taliesen finds himself for the first time completely alone. Not knowing how to do anything more than be an Antivan Crow, he finds himself ill-fit for society. When opportune arises, he finds jobs as a butcher.
