Well, that was disappointing. While she hadn’t pushed her further against the wall, she wasn’t exactly giving Cosima room to get away from her.  “You know very much about science. Why are you going to the lab?” It seemed she was giving her another chance to be honest this time.

“I need to take samples out of a machine and check the results.” Cosima admitted. She didn’t know if this woman knew enough about science to undersatnd what all the research was all about. “You know they are after us? We all have a mentor. They examine us at nights.”

That wasn’t true, Helena knew about all of the copies. Thomas made sure of that, they could never be caught off guard by one. Good, now the copies were being punished by Him, helping her to get rid of them much faster. “Hm,” she grunted, looking Cosima over. “Do you have this bleeding?” Maybe she was already weak and would be easier to kill.

Cosima shook her head. “No. I don’t bleed.” She knew she was coughing more recently but there hasn’t been blood. So there was still hope for her that it was just some kind of virus that was going on at the moment. She couldn’t get sick, not now that she was examining the new samples she got.

“And what we need to do.” A sad smile was on his face as he pointed that out. They had wasted too much time after resigning from DYAD. He had just bent over to fill up Denise’s food bowl when she explained why she said EvoDevo. “Yeah, anything that slows down your talking needs to be fixed.” The teasing grin was back.

“If I’m correct Alison got almost everything already, so we can fill in the room the way we want and such things. Make it our own you know.” Cosima walked around and put the list down with the things she had ordered. She waited patiently for Scott to be done feeding Denise and sat down on his couch. “See! You get me. Why using those long words as people understand it when you shorten them?”

Helena didn’t move back, knowing she would try to run. Wouldn’t anyone in this scenario? There was no way she was letting her get away. At the mention of Danielle Fornier she gave a slight nod of her head. Of course she had heard of her before, she was always given lists of names. “Yes, it took her before I could find her. I did not know it was disease.” There were so many copies, some sick when she found them, some not. It hadn’t been enough for her to notice a common thread between all of the sick ones. Although it did jog her memory. “Do they cough blood?”

Cosima nodded a little. “I’m sure more are gone that you don’t know of. They.. Before they even know it they die. Some are sick for a long period and some are sick for just a few days. There is no cure.” She really didn’t want to tell this to her but she had to. How else was she going to save her own ass. “Yes.. Yes they do. It mostly start with normal coughing, then blood coughing, seizures, bleedings from the uterus. Or it starts the other way around.”

Some part of Helena wanted to believe that she was telling the truth now. That she wouldn’t lie to her. But, there was also reason to remain cautious and she kept a close eye on her body language as she spoke. “A disease?” That wasn’t something that had been mentioned by Thomas. Was it another punishment He had given these copies?

“Does it kill the copies?”

Cosima watched the woman. She hoped she would take a step back so it was a little bit easier to relax and remain calm. “Yes a disease, it has something to do with the lungs and uterus. I don’t know what causes it but it is an unknown disease and yes some of them died of it already. Danielle Fornier? You know her. The French one? She died because of it.” Cosima said quickly

“I mean, it’s not like we’re going to go around bragging about our own secret lab is it?” Smiling at her, he gave an approving nod. “Let’s go with EvoDevo, I like the sound of it. Even if the first time you introduced yourself you sounded like you were trying to be all cool abbreviating your study and all that.” Standing up from his computer chair, he stilled for only a moment when Denise rubbed against his leg. “After I feed her we’ll start going over the list you gave Alison just to make sure you got everything we need.” 

“Oh no we won’t. We will just have a lab to do what we likes most.” Cosima smiled and nodded a little. EvoDevo it is. Basic and still enough. Cosima raised her eyesbrows when Scott thought she was trying to be cool using Evo devo. “Hey Scott lemme tell you. Evolutionary Development is a tongue twister.  See, I even have to say it slowly.”

At her attempt to speak, she released her grip a bit. Maybe she would finally start giving her the information she wanted. Some times people just needed a little persuading and she had been trained exactly how to get it out of them. “You will not lie. Not again.” Her fingers tightened for just a moment before releasing the tight grip on her neck.

“You are scientist. What do you do about the copies? What do you know?”

Cosima was glad that she got some air again. She took in as much as she could just in case she wouldn’t be breathing ever again soon. This woman was clearly brainwashed and she felt sad for her but didn’t show. She couldn’t show any emotion now. “I won’t” Cosima gasped and pressed her lips together.

“I’m a student.. Not really a scientist.. I don’t know much.. You are the first one I see face to face... I.. I know about a disease. That’s why they approached me.”

“Hm, bubbles doesn’t really work when it comes to a lab.” Although it would at least deter people (like DYAD) finding them. “Maybe something that isn’t, um, suspicious either.” With the amount of confidential research they’d be doing, they had to be careful. And he realized he was ruining what was otherwise was good news. “I mean, whatever name you want I’ll go for.” 

Cosima nodded. “What about EvoDevo. It’s like what we study and it won’t say too much. It’s not that creative either but maybe that won’t make us suspicious.” Cosima pointed out, but it didn’t really matter DYAD would keep an eye on them. No matter what lab they were going to work for. Atleast their own lab won’t spread confidential information.

“Thomas said I should know. That I am important.” Cosima trying to convince her that she wasn’t the original only served to push her closer to the edge, nostrils flaring as her eyes bore into her. Her hand lifted, fingers attempting to squeeze around her neck. This one talked too much.

“There is no guilt.” Was she trying to make her feel bad? It wasn’t helping to save her. “You are not me, nothing like me.” Her other hand began to reach down for her knife, wanting this- no needing this to end.

Cosima nodded a little. She didn’t say any other word as this woman was squeezing her neck. She just studied the woman in front of her. If she didn’t want to kill her what else did she want? Because there was nothing Cosima could give her.

No guilt. This one was definitely trained to kill, kill with no mercy. “Sorry” Cosima got out which a small squeak. “What.. What do you want from me?”
