This distinguished gentlebeast appears to be a Smooth-handed Ghost Crab (Ocypode cordimana)!

They are members of the Ghost and Fiddler crab family Ocypodidae, and have a highly varied diet of plant/algal matter, other invertebrates, vertebrates, eggs, and carrion. They’re opportunistic and will try to get anything they can eat!

This species is also widely distributed across the Pacific and Indian oceans, where they can be found most active at night on beaches. Like other ghost and fiddler crabs, they typically stay hidden in their burrows during the day to avoid predators.

Grapes, as shown here, make for a delightful treat for captive Ocypodes; however, it should only be a treat and part of a balanced and varied diet including fish pellets, shellfish (such as clams), and veggies.

I do really love the Eshonai and Venli dynamic and the whole subversion of the one character who appears to be predestined to be a hero, who is noble and good, being the one who gets corrupted and dies alone and 'mundanely', making the 'cowardly' and scheming other the character who gets to progress, who gets to choose to do the right thing.

Venli finding her sister's corpse, drowned after having fallen was such a key moment and the whole bleakness of it truly hammered in the horrors of the consequences to her actions.

And yet, I am so so glad that we got to read Eshonai's last moments being a battle, but not futile. Of her failing to survive, but succeeding to free herself.

And in her freedom, she finally got to see the world, all of it, as she had dreamed of.

While this book series really hits with its moments of devastation and really hammers in the horrors of war, I am so glad that there also are these bursts of hope, of comfort.

People really fixate on the “he was beginning to hate his sons” line of that one scene in oathbringer, but the thing that gets me is how despite everything Dalinar can’t help but reach out to and ask after Adolin. Addiction is a disease that thrives on isolation. Addicts distance themselves from their loved ones for a lot of reasons: for shame, to protect them, to prevent them from taking away access to the drug. We see all of that in this scene. But still Dalinar can’t help but take an interest in his son, can’t help wanting to talk to him and support him. It’s such a good scene and it hit me like a ton of bricks when I first read it.

It always bothered me that Wax is called Harmony's sword. This is weirdly old fashioned for era 2. He is obviously His gun.
