Out of the sixteen Misting abilities, Steel/Coinshot won! Recap post here!
Radiant Surges: starting soon!
We're working out the full list of surges to include. This is the latest poll; go vote!
My askbox is always open, and I will continue to take suggestions for what tournament to run next, or any other thoughts you have about the invested arts!
List of surges is in development! I've tried to be systematic about it AND make the list 32 units long, and mostly succeeded!
Abilities are divided by surge and by order. In order for an ability to be different from another ability, it needs to EITHER be a different surge OR belong to a different set of Radiant orders.
Some of the Fused abilities are not notably different than their Radiant counterparts, but unlike Radiants, all Fused can hold Light indefinitely. Also, if I included all nine, this list got closer to 32 exactly.
A few abilities are unique to specific people! Shallan, Rlain & Renarin, and Ishi all have unique abilities represented here, as the rest of their orders couldn't do them.
My tentative list is below the cut, but I have a few questions for you.
Which Ideal should this tournament represent?
3rd Ideal (all Surges accessed, no armor, less Invested than Fused)
4th Ideal (with armor, more Invested than Fused)
Voting ended onJul 27, 2025
These are the only two options, because below 3rd not all orders have all Surges, and at 5th Ideal we don't know enough about the Radiants yet!
Shallan is special, and is making this tournament difficult to arrange! let's figure out which of her abilities end up where in the tournament, potentially to replace "Self-Healing (all)" and "Shardblade/Shardplate (all)".
WARNING: WIND AND TRUTH SPOILERS COULD END UP IN THIS TOURNAMENT! I will try to obscure any in this post, but proceed with caution!
Also, at this point I CANNOT avoid major Rhythm of War spoilers, so I will tag accordingly. Be warned!
⬇️⬇️⬇️ RoW Spoilers Below (and a poll!!) ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Shallan has three possible sources of her Invested powers:
1) being a skilled higher-Ideal Lightweaver.
2) being double-bonded. Double-bonding might lend more Investiture and create strange resonances. As it's technically possible for others to double-bond spren, this would go in a special Double-Bonded Lightweaver category.
3) [Wind and Truth spoilers]! Hopefully, if you've read Wind and Truth, you know why there might be a third category here! This is basically unique to Shallan and creates a second potential source of uniquely high Investiture.
There are three powers that Shallan demonstrates that no one else seems to.
A) Lightweaving with Physical Presence. Shallan is able to make Lightweavings touchable, or otherwise give the illusion of mass, to some extent. If this goes in the tournament, this ability will be described using evidence from Wind and Truth. Hoid mentions that some Lightweavers of old used to be able to do this. It's possible that this power comes from Shallan being uniquely highly Invested, or is just something a high-Ideal Lightweaver might be able to attain! I will assume that Transformation (Soulcasting) is lending the illusion its presence, and this is a combo surge, like the Reverse Lashing. This might be (Illumination, Transformation: Lightweaver), (Illumination, Transformation: Double-Bonded Lightweaver), or (Illumination, Transformation: Shallan).
B) Identity Manipulation. Most uses of Surges are keyed to the creator's Identity. Kaladin can't consume Shallan's illusions for Stormlight. However, in Rhythm of War, Shallan decides to "be Drehy" and successfully consumes Drehy's Lashing. Again, this might be a Soulcasting that any skilled Soulcaster can do, or it might be due to Shallan's high Investiture. This might be (Transformation: Lightweaver, Elsecaller), (Transformation: Double-Bonded Lightweaver, Double-Bonded Elsecaller), or (Transformation: Shallan). Or, it might require the "becoming another person" aspect of Lightweaving, and be (Transformation: Lightweaver) or (Transformation: Double-Bonded Lightweaver).
C) Self-Soulcasting into the Cognitive Realm. In Way of Kings, Shallan inadvertently tosses herself into the Cognitive Realm, and cannot get back. I believe one of the wikis references this as being possible due to Shallan's double bond, so for the moment I am assuming (Transformation: Double-Bonded Lightweaver); this doesn't really apply to Elsecallers as they would just use Transportation instead!
I'm going to have to do this in three more polls. Bear with me....
As a final note, if Identity Manipulation and Self-Soulcasting both win (Transformation: double bonded Lightweaver), they will be combined into one Surge, and similarly if Identity Manipulation wins (Transformation: Lightweaver, Elsecaller) it will be combined with the normal surge of the same.

So, the misting tournament was fun... should we do another?
I'd love some suggestions for what we'd like to see next on this blog! You can of course reply to this post, reblog with tags or send me an ask!
Bonus Invested Art fun fact, sourced from this Sanderson Q&A—about Steel, since it won the Misting tourney—
Steelpushes source from an Allomancer's "center of self" rather than their center of mass, and their "center of self" is determined by their cognitive/spiritual view of themselves!
Steel Mistings, also called Coinshots, can burn steel to Push on nearby metals, except for aluminum. While burning steel, they see thin blue lines pointing from their body to every nearby source of metal (again, except for aluminum). Steel is a Physical External Pushing metal, the counterpart to Iron.
Tin Mistings, also called Tineyes, can burn tin to enhance their senses. This also comes with a heightened sense of pain and increased sensitivity to stimuli like light while burning tin. Tin is a Physical Internal Pulling metal, the counterpart to Pewter.
Vote by any criteria you'd like!
This is the final round of the tournament of Misting powers!! But, there will likely be more tournaments to come... follow this blog to see more!

Four days remaining in this tournament's final round! We already have more votes on this poll than any other single poll this tournament, but can we go even higher?

Brass Mistings, also called Soothers, dampen emotions of the people they touch. Brass Mistings may affect individual emotions, although nuance gets harder the larger the crowd they are Soothing. Brass is a Mental External Pushing metal, the counterpart to Zinc.
This poll will run for three days, and the winner will be in the FINAL ROUND! Go check out the other poll as well!
Zinc Mistings, also called Rioters, burn zinc to enhance emotions of people they target. Rioters can pick specific emotions to target, but nuance becomes more difficult the more people they target at once. Zinc is a Mental External Pulling metal, the counterpart to Brass.
Tin Mistings, also called Tineyes, can burn tin to enhance their senses. This also comes with a heightened sense of pain and increased sensitivity to stimuli like light while burning tin. Tin is a Physical Internal Pulling metal, the counterpart to Pewter.

While burning Iron, they see thin blue lines pointing from themselves to any nearby sources of metal (again, except for aluminum). Iron is a Physical External Pulling metal, the counterpart to Steel.
