So if we go by game lore, Simon got thrown into prison by the C.O.I when he was still a kid. 15, 16, maybe 17 at most. I also have this hc (which given a bit of context from Simon's life here and there might as well be canon) that after the Quiet Rapture there was no such thing as "childhood" anymore. We're struggling to survive here and all you care about is your toys?! Stand up so I can teach you how to fight! So yeah, I don't think Simon would see anything wrong with being in prison so young. Maybe he doesn't know he was "young". His childhood stopped when the Quiet Rapture happened.

So imagine Simon telling Grace he spent the past 15+ years of his life in prison and Grace being confused for a sec and doing the math in his head. "Wait... But you're in your 30s... How old did you say you were when you when you got imprisoned again???" And Simon telling him his age. It would be so casual. As if he didn't see anything wrong with it. Probably because he didn't. And Grace can't help but cry for Simon, and maybe says something along the lines of "you should have been worried about doing your math homework, not wether the prison guards felt merciful enough to let you eat...☹️"

Grace can't help but mourn the childhood that got stolen from Simon, and the worst thing is that Simon looks confused as to why Grace is so sad.
