I don't usually post my original stuff here (I'm very protective of not putting it out there until its Ready which will not be for a long time) but. fuck it im in the right mood. this is the god of war from my original universe which I am adapting into a game called Ad Astra (name possibly to be changed?? idk I've never settled on a name.) this universe is essentially my Magnum Opus, I refuse to fully develop it until I have more experience with game dev and have a whole team or perhaps can get the concept picked up by a studio. I DO plan on making a mostly self-made indie game before this one but not the point (entirely different universe and plot for that one.) putting this under a cut because I am about to drink the yappuccino of all time. just btw. this guy has existed for at least 5 years I cant help it

anyways. in this universe, which is an urban fantasy setting, the gods haven't existed since before history but rather there is a new god born every couple of centuries. generally the gods are treated like hot celebrities rather than traditional wise gods, although the general attitude towards the gods and which ways people revere them in kind of varies based on how involved each god is in maintaining order of the world, how they generally act around the public, etc. the main plot of the game revolves around the god of fortune being born in the current time, but that's not who we're talking about. this post is about my booboo bear sobriar. he's the god of strength and war. as you can imagine from this he has the absolute most frail toxic fragile masculinity in the world, and as such is constantly desperately clinging to any semblance of power and control he can get. a lot of this comes from his past though as he was in a very toxic loveless marriage for hundreds of years. he has 2 kids, one of which he "disowned" for trying to aid one of his siblings whomst he has a rivalry with (it's very complicated, he still loves his son and regrets disowning him but is too prideful to take it back because he's an insecure coward.) he clings to whatever is considered to be the most socially "powerful" thing at the time, which in the current age is wealth and status, so as such he is a strict businessman who is always trying to stay relevant and be as wealthy as possible. he is constantly involved in different get-rich schemes and is popping up in advertisements 24/7. probably not legally distinct enough to keep but, originally, there was an in-universe parody of starbucks named after him called "sobriarbucks." obviously he is a piece of shit, but he is also an incredibly flawed individual who was born and instantly thrust into the spotlight with 0 parentage or prior training or whatever, as all of the gods are in this world. he is absolutely one of my favorite characters I have ever made in human existence and I am in love with him. I really mean it, he means the world to me in ways I cannot describe. my dream VA for him is keith david. 2 years ago I met keith david at a convention and briefly told him about this, and asked him to sign some of the above art of sobriar- not only did he do this, but he held my hand and looked into my eyes for about 10 seconds and told me to give him a call one day. I then went home and listened to defying gravity and bawled my eyes out for like 3 days. I still get teary eyed when I think about it. here is the art he signed:

When I turned 17, we ordered a cake at the grocery store for my party, as we’d done many times before. If you wanted something written on the cake you’d write it into a section of the order form. We requested, very simply, “Happy Birthday Courtney”. When we went to pick it up the day of the party, this is what we got.

The bakery employees had absolutely no explanation for this. The order form, attached to the box, very clearly did not contain any of those extra names. Whomever had done the writing was no longer in, so there was no one to ask how this had happened. The fact that the name ‘Juan’ is misspelled bewilders me to this day. (I’ve never seen ‘Miley’ without the E, either, but it’s believable that someone might spell it that way.) Did this cake slip in from an alternate universe where I’m one quarter of a set of Hispanic quadruplets? Dyslexic Hispanic quadruplets, maybe?

This cake became the focal point of my party. At least two of my friends regularly called me ‘Courtney Mily Jaun Pablo’ for years to come. My siblings and I still reference it sometimes, eleven years later. It is probably the funniest thing ever to occur at any birthday celebration of my life, and may well remain so for the rest of my days.
