Welcome to Blue Space!

This blog serves to be a repository for my ramblings relating to The Three-Body Problem and any adaptations. Thus, it doesn't clog up my main blog or the tags too much while also helping me organize myself. They vary in nature from analysis to me talking about nonsensical matters. I additionally gif 我的三体 here.

Other science fiction works I enjoy might be discussed here as well sometimes, but aren't a primary focus. I also discuss philosophy in relation to science fiction concepts.

This is first and foremost a Blue Space blog, but I'm open to discussing any aspect of the novels (and other topics) so feel free to send asks to my inbox!

Can I be honest drawing the stars is hard to keep consistent. Also, I finally changed Reiko's shoulder stars to one instead of two in my design of her to be consistent with canon (you can tell I don't know much about military insignia stuff haha)

We are so back. Drawing Blue Space again. I'm drawing a Blue Space ensemble piece after so long...I missed them so much.

Stream of consciousness posting. Quantum Detective Agency (my OC project about personified interpretations of quantum mechanics) has me rather quantum brained and I am glad I have the actual background (though more philosophy rather than physics based) now to discuss it instead of confidently stating wrong things haha... I think there's an interpretation to be made regarding the sophons playing some sort of role akin to the observer effect (playing into the bending of the laws of physics in the trilogy). The act of observation from the sophons alters how people behave as epitomized by the Wallfacers if that makes sense?

i've seen lots of three-body problem fandom content — one that's based on different tv series, one that's based on books and books only...

shiwang people stand strong and proudly, and I'm proud to be a part (sorta) of this community, but I'm quite surprised about lack of other ships in fandom.

while I was reading "the dark forest", I became extremely invested in zhang beihai/wu yue situationship. and "death's end" yuri (cheng xin/aa) dynamic is tasty and captivating as hell

so I kinda expected to see people talking about these pairings online, but so far, I have not seen anything... maybe I'm just on the wrong side of the internet, tho. maybe it's time to learn mandarin

Cheng Xin is like a character who radiates the vibes of being stuck in a timeloop, but not actually in one.

You can make the ending of Death's End about matter-density GRW theory if you try hard enough actually.

I'm back to stream of consciousness posting again. Classic @cosmicsociology ramblings. My priority presently is my original characters who are personified interpretations of quantum mechanics as I am highly obsessed with them, but this philosophy of physics sidequest will allow me to return with a lot of thoughts and artwork. It will especially helpful with a Sophon design.

Tierlisting characters based on the basis for my original characters. Cheng Xin is kind of Satosi Watanabe's Double Inferential State Vector Formalism with the emphasis on prediction and retrodiction aligning quite nicely with emphasis on time in her characterization (e.g. weight of history, but also how she jumps into the future via hibernation, etc.)

I think that there might be echoes of my obsession with this trilogy in my own original work with the exploration of physics (with philosophical implications on the side) actually.

I've listened to a LOT more music now (math rock changed my life last year) so I ought to rework playlists (plan to listen to 200 albums this year), but Wings of the ISANG would be right up the alley of a lot of Three Body Problem fans, especially Death's End enjoyers. I like how you can see my little icon in the supported by section (which substantiates my support for them), but anyway. As a post-rock band, they're characterized by rich soundscapes which is accentuated by their description of being a band that sings time and space.

3 Body Problem: Episode 1, Season 1

I'm admittedly quite bad at keeping up with watching shows, but I feel like publicly posting will keep me motivated to watch more haha. Tried to keep an open mind throughout (sometimes I had to remind myself about that) but I overall enjoyed it and I'm looking forward for more! I also need to watch Season 1 before Season 2 since The Dark Forest is my favorite entry in the trilogy.

Stream of consciousness go:

Ye Wenjie is a character who I find to be the most captivating in the first novel and I feel like the producers captured some of her original characterization with the circumstances surrounding her (which would then in turn serve as a good basis for the pivotal point of replying to the Trisolarans) thus far. However, there was a writing decision I found a bit questionable which was her relationship with the journalist character? Unsure how to feel about that, but I suppose it might be a contrast with the overall shift to the characters being generally closer as exemplified by the friend group in the present. (Trying to evaluate this in terms of what message the producers wanted to convey rather than augh! they changed the trilogy!! haha)

On that note, Auggie's quite interesting and I found her a grounded character in how she reacts to her circumstances (haunted by the countdown). For example, she seems to be dissociating (common response to stress) from her surroundings in the meeting with everyone as indicated by her delayed response to Jack. This fleshes her out compared to Wang Miao in the original trilogy I'd say! Also on Jauggie...I see the vision already. Excuse me, but you cannot simply have I Kissed a Girl in the background while they're discussing haha.

I feel like I have an overall sense of the characters already which is good for the first episode! Saul's conversation with Vera is one example of this where Vera seems so utterly haunted. Not to mention, Saul quoting physicists accentuates his own struggles and belief that he "missed [his] window."

However, the shorter amount of episodes than Tencent does mean that some of the subtlety in the original is lost and it'll be much more fast-paced. I found that everything was overall more direct. The cosmic microwave background in the original trilogy compared to the stars blinking (which, admittedly the execution was cool) epitomizes the loss of subtlety in this adaptation. Though, I won't fault this adaptation too much given episode count. (At the very least, it's trying to get all the main points down)

Despite that, the ending was a good hook to lead into what could happen next!

Explanation: What created this unusual space sculpture? Stars. This unusual system of swirls and shells, known as Apep, was observed in unprecedented detail by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope in infrared light in 2024. Observations indicate that the unusual shape originates from two massive Wolf-Rayet stars orbiting each other every 190 years with each close passes causing a new shell of dust and gas to be expelled. Holes in these shells are thought to be caused by a third orbiting star. This stellar dust dance will likely continue for hundreds of thousands of years, possibly ending only when one of the massive stars runs out of internal nuclear fuel and explodes in a supernova punctuated by a burst of gamma-rays.

Rereading the trilogy calls to me at the worst time ever now that it's at the forefront of my head. I have like three 10 page papers. One of them is for a class about quantum interpretations.
