Here's some personal hc's about Jon within the MGS verse:

Jonathan had heard about the outer heaven uprising in 1995 as did the Zanzibarland takeover through normal news channels but was nothing more than a bystander- and outsider to what was going on behind the scenes as he continued his policenaut training.

Beyond Coast was never fully completed during its construction in 2005 (Partially due to budget cuts and money being ultimately diverted to military projects from then president George Sear's administration) resulting in Jon's talents as a policenaut never being realized therefore he was never plunged into the darks depths of space by 2010.

By 2009 He would continue his career in law enforcement and would eventually find himself working as a private investigator.

His wife Lorraine went missing due to mysterious circumstances. Jon is actively investigating her whereabouts.

A continuation of my headcanons so far:

Jon's only lead in his wife's disappearance was a book she left behind at the scene of her abduction, a book title In the Darkness of Shadow Moses.

He does make contact and interview with the book's author Nastasha Romanenko but in doing so Jon inevitably finds himself in a rabbit hole of conspiracies and political intrigued resulting in Jonathan becoming a target for the shadowy government known as the Patriots.

Makes contact with an anchor woman named Karen who covered the big shell incident.

People give Kojima a lot of shit for goofy plots but conveniently forget he basically called most of the last 5 years way back in 2001.

The bit about the internet enabling everyone to cultivate their own internet ‘group’ that are all in total agreement and never have to experience the viewpoint of anyone else was completely right and wouldn’t fully take from until around a decade (if not more) later.

This dialogue right here is exactly why I consider MGS2 one of the best-written games of all time.

Sure, the game itself is a huge clusterfuck of weird, but eventually they ambush you with shit like this and 15 years down the road it’s eerily accurate given how little of the framework that allows for stuff like this to happen was actually in place at the time.

So I went to my local mall with my brother for an hour and I walked around by myself until I passed the theater connected to it and I saw this spot that felt so... empty. So I took a picture of it, there is no significance to this area aside from being the entrance to the movie theater here but other than that I used to come here sometimes with my family, (The last thing time I ever came here was with a date we ended up seeing Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) I'll never forget the day we first moved to this area and the one of the first things we did after we settled in to our new home was go out clothes shopping. Honestly coming here again with everything that has happened so far these passed four years has left me feeling so tired, so weighed down, so lonesome and even scared there was actually a few times I was crying quietly while I was walking passed people or watching them walk before me while I was sitting down somewhere quietly to myself.

Whatever sense of stability and happiness I had has pretty much faded away when she died. I dunno what I want out of life anymore, I am just... here, sitting still while time passes before me.
