Hello! I just discovered your blog and reblogged so many of your posts lol, sorry. I loved the way you’ve portrayed my city. It’s just so amazing how close we’ve been (based on the places you’ve photographed), and I just wanted to say that: 1) your photography is amazing, and 2) that it’d be nice if you could share some of your thoughts on what you perceive from each of those beautiful places you visit.
Hope to hear from you soon
Have a nice day wherever you are! :)
Thank you! :)
(I'm guessing Lima?)
I connected really fast with Lima, but unfortunately I only got to spend a very small amount of time there (8 days + 4 days in Cusco)— I'd love to return to Peru one day to see Arequipa, so maybe there's at least a few more days in Lima in my future... hopefully—
It's a fantastic city— I was there during Día de la Canción Criolla and Halloween, and the costume parade in Parque Kennedy was wild— loved the energy the city had— youthful, vibrant, creative, passionate, laid-back, soulful— weather was great, food was great, coffee was great, people were fantastic— loved the insane amount of dogs I got to meet/see/pet (swear, more than anywhere else in the world I've been)—
As much as I enjoy photographing places, it's really just a bonus/token thing— I'm mostly there to eat 😅— learn about the culture, live a little differently, explore the music, art, landscape— I prefer visiting places slowly (I've spent months in France, Japan, Hungary, Vietnam, Thailand, Spain— half a year in Mexico—), so my slightly under two-week sojourn to Peru (Lima/Cusco) felt a little rushed, but it's a place that really stuck with me, and a country I truly enjoyed—
Loved anticuchos. La Lucha Sangucheria Criolla near midnight. Street ceviche near Centro. Aji de gallina at Antigua Taberna Queirolo. Emolientes, lomo saltado, picarones, chicha, caldo de cabeza? Was all great— I look forward to the day I can have lucuma again— And I promise you— I mean this— Peru has the best chicken soup in the world. It is not close. At all—
Which... umm... leads me to my main regret in not trying pollo a la brasa 😓... — just never got around to it— (I also wanted to get a copy of César Vallejo's Trilce but never found a copy... I try to get a book as a souvenir from wherever I visit, but just didn't get around to it in Peru)—
One of my favourite coffee cities in the world too— had some great coffee there—
Because I was there such a short time, I'm going to say I was more in a 'vacation-mode' than a 'I'm going to live here for a bit' mode, which isn't the most authentic way of experiencing a place, but... it's kinda nice. I stayed at a small place in Miraflores, ate out nearly all the time, went to cafes every day, didn't have to worry about working, a schedule, chores, splurged on a birthday lunch (Merito), and I had a healthy budget— I mean, it's nice— but I know that's not the reality for a lot of people there— wherever I go I tend to just try to do as the locals do, best I can, but every once-in-a-while a 'vacation-mode' bit of travelling is as enjoyable as anything else—
The more places I visit, see, live, lay my head in temporarily— regardless if I enjoy it there or not— the more I realize I know very little, will always know very little, and I just hope to enjoy whatever time I have here the most I can— be kind, be open-minded, listen more than speak, and always remember to have a little fun— I've taken public transportation who knows how many ways in who knows how many countries, gotten haircuts in at least six languages, eaten things that to this day I do not know the name of, and taken part in some truly emotionally impactful events and festivities in a couple pockets of the world that'll stick with me forever— and I always hope others get to do the same—
I'm in Busan, South Korea at the moment— first time here, enjoying it— I can see Songdo beach from my window— had kongguksu yesterday for the first time and it blew me away, lovely dish— today? went to the fish market, bought a bag of sea pineapple, plopped it into perilla leaves with kimchi— always something new 🙂— Spending some time at the beach before heading off to central China for a month—
