Crow Exchange, Cosplay Photoshoots, and More!
We realized when publishing the schedule that we had accidentally misled you! The tentative list of panels/events has no Crow Exchange present—that was an oversight. The Crow Exchange is coming back, and bigger than ever!
But first, I’d like to be selfish.
This is Simone speaking. I just wanted to quickly shout out my a capella concert, Blue the Sky, that’s taking place this Sunday!
I’ve been in this same group, Effusion, for the better part of my university career, and it is for that reason that we had the Musical Interdudes perform Am I a Man or a Muppet last year. A tradition I would like to maintain… (foreshadowing is a literary device)
Since I’m graduating, this is my last performance, so if you’re near the downtown Montreal area I would really appreciate it if you came out to support me! Tickets are like $20 so they’re so cheap for how much work we’ve all put into it.
I’ll be soloing! Here’s a taste:

Back to the Crow Exchange.
For those unfamiliar, a ‘crow exchange’ is an open space where attendees can swap stickers, buttons, pins, kandi, shiny rocks—any little trinkets they’ve collected, much like crows—between one another. Selling is expressly forbidden, and volunteers are on-site to make sure all swaps are beneficial to both parties.
We, foolishly, assumed it would be mildly-to-moderately attended because people would forget their crow hoards at home. It was our most popular event of the convention. People made custom kandi bracelets and even zines to swap, or just give away for free. Unfortunately, that meant it was overcrowded basically the entire time.
We’re doing something different this year: the Crow Exchange will be a nearly all-day event!
That way we can reduce crowding and improve traffic flow. It will also have a dedicated room, so we can put in tables and chairs! No longer will you have to spread all your shinies out on the floor!
Please trade responsibly :)
For those unaware, DashCon 2’s Cosplay Photoshoots are attendee-run gatherings where cosplayers from specific fandoms/fandom groups meet up outdoors next to the convention hall to take photos together. Non-cosplayers are also welcome to come take photos of the folks cosplaying. The given fandom can be as broad as ‘Idol’ or ‘Tumblr Sexymen’, or as specific as ‘Homestuck.’
Speaking of Homestuck: last year the Homestuck photoshoot contingent was massive. So massive that a local Homestuck fan group, TorontoStuck, has emailed requesting to host a photoshoot before we even announced we were doing them again! So if nothing else, we are guaranteed a Homestuck Cosplay Photoshoot.
Another group that has already reached out to us is dedicated to the Locked Tomb fandom. They will also have a Cosplay Photoshoot time slot!
If you want to host one, all you need to do is email [email protected] with your name, fandom, and general time! We’ll help you coordinate a photoshoot spot.
This year we are proud to announce that the Cosplay Photoshoot spot will include the official Convention Guillotine(TM) as a cosplay prop.
