Finally working on games again! :)
Here’s a gif of a noir-ish turn based shooter I’m working on for the GMTK jam this weekend.
My game for Ludum Dare 37 (”One Room”): a small arena shooter where you grow plants to use as weapons as a bird gardener -
Herboto!
Quick update on development:
Now explosions leave little flames behind, which wisp away after a couple seconds.
Also, I finally got a background tileset done for interior walls (see first gif) - good god, finding the right colors took a while
And in the last gif, the main character shows off the (possibly, almost certainly inaccurate) shotgun reloading animation!
There’s always a taller building...
Started on a last minute entry to the Gameboy Jam - hopefully, I’ll finish it!
I made a game for Ludum Dare 36! (ancient technology theme)
It’s sort of like Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime in that you use a platforming character to control various parts of the Trojan mech-horse.
Use the horse’s high-powered missile cannon (they had those back then, right?) to break down the walls of Troy.
It’s a pretty short game, but it was plenty fun to make - hope you enjoy it!
Quick gif, explosions damage larger props now -
Basically, the props choose a random ‘damaged’ sprite upon contact with an explosion. It’s a simple system, but it stops giving the impression that the tables in the game are indestructible, so it works.
Also, I’ve been updating on TIGsource as well!
Hey there, it’s been a long while!
I've been working on the slow motion game a bit.
Basically, I recoded most of the game because the old code for the slow motion mechanic was greatly inefficient (I admit, previously the slow motion was achieved, horrifyingly, by changing the game logic speed from 400 fps to 60 fps during the game).
Now the game's a lot more efficient, so there are a lot more debris and effects everywhere!
As for new content, the improved slow motion coding allows for time dilation of individual objects. In the second gif, the timewarp grenades leave behind a zone where everything in contact (save for the player) moves in slow motion independently!
True Matrix bullet time! Well, sort of.
I’ve been working on expanding the gameplay for a while. The hero now has a substantial arsenal of ways to dodge bullets: shown in the gif are wall jumps, dodge rolls (mid-air dodge rolls in fact), and a slight downward boost. All to dance around enemies and their (now time-rippling) bullets.
It actually kind of feels like a game now!
A closer view of the city, and its battered skyline.
Updated level graphics, and a new enemy type!
There are a whole bunch of little effects here (added rain and smoke, from previous update; wires and other background props), but the main thing is the new detailed background!
(It’s actually just one big vertical building duplicated and positioned to make a claustrophobic Kowloon-style city backdrop.)
Also, there is a new enemy, armed with a flamethrowing shotgun…
Man! You’re explosions are always so amazing!
Thanks! :D
Those kinds of animations are often pretty tiring to do, but the most rewarding!

Interview with Cottontrek, the person behind “Slow Motion Game”
For the past few days I have been speaking with Cottentrek. For those who don’t know, Cottontrek has made many short little “games.” Most of them being unfinished. One in particular caught my attention. Currently it is untitled, but has also been going by the name “Slow Motion Game.” Dan: Can you best describe to me what exactly “Slow Motion Game” is at it’s current state? Cottontrek: Well, it’s mostly just a gameplay engine. It’s taking a while to find a solid story or even a consistent art style for the game, so the game is mostly just gameplay at this point. So far there are the basic game mechanics, weapons, abilities, and enemy types, and there are a whole lot of levels for me to test gameplay interactions, balancing, and art. I do have a lot of ideas for possible stories and characters, but first I hope to make sure that the game mechanics are solid and varied before I get to anything else. Dan: Completely understandable. Do you have an idea on what you might intend for the finished product to be Cottontrek: Gosh, I have a lot of ideas, but I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep, so I’ll try to keep it as realistic as I can!

Check out Dan’s Digital Dialup, he does cool interviews of game developers!
Here’s one he did of me - it was really fun, thanks Dan!
We finished our Bad Box Art game jam entry, and it’s up on gamejolt!
I worked with dainryoo, who did most of the art on this game.
As per the 48h challenge, this game was based off of this existing cover art. The basic gist of our game is that you must balance two tasks: to win, you must furiously paint your fence as fast as possible.
However, the more you paint, the more your adorable dog is in danger from being eaten (and subsequently exploding). You must protect your dog using a double barreled AK-47.
Back to regular gamedev soon!
Fighting the Vulture Tribe!
So these guys, the Vultures, worship the Sun like the other tribes in the Mad Max-ish game, but a little differently. The Vultures believe, in order to show respect to the Sun, they must avoid using any weapons that are “imitating” it, as in explosives or flamethrowers. So a lot of them use spiky weapons or harpoons and paint their cars dark colors. The only problem is that their cars tend to explode, being powered by gasoline and all...

I really like the smoke particle effects!
Thanks! I was really trying to get the smokey bladerunner look here, so it’s cool that you noticed that!
