It's alright, he turned 55 years old today. He woke up in his home which is littered with books and art and his husband kissed him and made him breakfast in bed and Mike unashamedly asked for cuddles
And later, his friends and family from all across the world arrived bit by bit because he is loved and he is worth the travel time and he hugged every single one of them at the door like they were precious.
They crowded round the living room and chatted and gossiped, they had drinks and cakes and he opened presents from each other them: New clothes or books, a fresh painting, DnD figures, his favourite foods. And he'd laugh and tear up at each one and go in for a second hug. Because he can. Because he doesn't hesitate anymore
In the late evening everyone has to leave and Mike does the same motion again, holding them close, if he can. And Will makes him his favourite dinner because he knows Mike prefers it to be home cooked, thinks it's more special than going out. They sit opposite each other with sparkling eyes and quiet meaningful words
They share wine and dessert and end the day slow dancing to the radio pressed up close to each other. It's less of a dance than it is a swaying motion, arms wrapped around each other, cheeks planted comfortably on shoulders and hair.
Without hesitation it's Mike's favourite place to be
