Wanted to remake my post! Hello everyone, I am an indigenous trans man from the global south; I have a life-limiting disease that will end my life within weeks if i am not medicated :P I do not have a thyroid, and this severe hypothyroidism is exacerbated by insulin resistant type II diabetes that has already deformed my heart 🥹 . My condition has severely impacted my appearance, my physical and cognitive abilities.. I would like to keep living, and I am the only person in my family who works!

I have around 400+ drawings on my patreon! Exclusive and found nowhere else online. I have three other jobs, but they are all very unstable and I could lose it at any moment! I would deeply appreciate any boost! Thank you so much!!

Tecumseh was motivated to learn Ojibwe and earn the World Language Certificate by his family and his people.

“I’m honored to be the first person to do it,” he said. “It is very, very awe inspiring.”

“A lot of people don’t really know Ojibwe,” Tecumseh said. “it’s been oppressed throughout history … I’m the first person in my family, my direct family, to not be at risk of being put in a boarding school. … I think that by taking someone’s language away you’re taking a part of themselves and their identity. By learning that, I wanted to let people learn my language, our language, and spread it across the world.”

“My advice to younger people or other people who are trying to learn Ojibwe is there are people out there who would be very happy and grateful if you want to learn that language,” he said. “And I think if more people can take it upon themselves to learn Ojibwe then it would very much help their chances because Ojibwe is endangered.” [source]

We need to be talking about wearing PPE while doing textile work. You would never dream of stepping foot inside woodworking studio without goggles and ear protection when using the machines, yet I have never seen respirators or masks available in weaving studios or other textile workshops where we work with materials and machinery that kick up a lot of dust that ends up in our lungs. Allergies develop with prolonged exposure! Cotton lung is a thing!

I've been working mainly with linen for couple of years, unprotected, and every time I get an illness the after-flu cough sticks around a little longer. After a long day of weaving I can feel the itch in my throat that lasts days. Please can we normalise protecting ourselves from long-term exposure to textile dust🙏

I'm reminded of that anecdote a few years back about a new scientist doing fieldwork for the first time who went out into the snowy woods in jeans in a t-shirt, got soaked in an icy creek, and when the senior members of the team tried to send him back to the vehicle to warm up so he didn't get hypothermia, laughed it off as a thing that doesn't happen to people in the modern era.

And textile-adjacent fumes! Dyes, paints, and glues often have VOCs - that's Volatile Organic Compounds and they are REALLY BAD FOR YOU. If you are processing raw fiber or dyeing yarn/fabric/leather, or if your craft involves adhesives, please make sure you have good ventilation and a appropriate hand/eye/breathing protection.

I keep thinking about this post as I check in on the Artemis II mission throughout the day in between doing my normal tasks. My texts to my girlfriend look like “Aw man I was making pasta for dinner and I dropped the box and now there’s macaroni all over the floor.
