speaking of personality disorders that dont get talked about
it is cool that bpd is getting more support but it is also very important that all the other PDs get awareness so here is a cool and handy list of the other thirteen or so and that dispels a few myths while im at it
these are grouped into clusters, which is important because personality disorders in the same cluster can often be comorbid with each other. this is important for self dxing, although note that the rate of comorbidity varies— for example, it is rare to have one cluster a PD without having at least one other, but this might not be true for other clusters. in general, clusters do share common traits and are very often comorbid.
cluster a is three PDs that all commonly focus on lack of desire to be social for one reason or another. cluster a folks may have trust issues. cluster a is commonly associated with schizophrenia, and so many display symptoms of it (stpd in particular is considered to sometimes be a precursor to schizophrenia).
paranoid personality disorder which does not mean someone is a “scaredy-cat” or needs to “just learn to trust others!”
schizoid personality disorder which doesnt make someone cold or frigid or a “bad friend” or dull
schizotypal personality disorder which, like schizoid, doesnt make someone a terrible cold person and like ppd doesnt need to learn to trust others or be forced into social situations to learn “social skills!”
cluster b which commonly has a lot of attention-seeking behavior. cluster b PDs often are accused of being abusive, but they cant just magically control their behavior. cluster b may get violent urges, especially aspd. BPD is part of cluster b but has not been listed since highlighting other PDs is the point of this post.
antisocial personality disorder which is not “just being an asshole”
histrionic personality disorder which does not just mean someone is being overdramatic or impatient
narcissistic personality disorder which isnt “vain” and “stuck-up” and doesnt need to be “knocked down a peg”. also, stop using narcissistic as an insult
cluster c which can vary a lot but has a lot of behavior that is very similar to anxiety (but cluster c PDs arent just plain anxiety). people with cluster c PDs do not need to “just grow up”
avoidant personality disorder which is not the same as just having social anxiety or low self esteem
depedent personality disorder which doesnt need to just “learn how to think for yourself!”
obsessive-compulsive personality disorder which isnt the same as ocd
uncategorized (not a cluster, but PDs that dont fit into other clusters)
depressive personality disorder which isnt the same as depression
passive-aggressive personality disorder which, like aspd, is not the same as “being an asshole” and isnt the same as just plain being passive-aggressive a lot
sadistic personality disorder and self-defeating personality disorder (aka “masochistic” personality disorder) neither of which have anything to do with bdsm and people literally need to stop confusing them with kink things and start giving them actual support and awareness instead of waving them off as kinksters
anyways, i hope this post helped spread awareness a bit. im only schizoid with schizotypal and compulsive traits so please let me know if i stated anything wrong or badly.
as far as finding more info for these pds goes, try checking out wikipedia or mayo clinic for simple but not-necessarily-100%-accurate descriptions.
for more specific info check out theodore million’s website but note has a lot of big paragraphs with long words. heres the handy link to the subtypes page that goes around sometimes and is probably the easiest thing to read there.
for personal experiences and community try the “actually_____” tags for them (for example, “actuallyavoidant” “actuallyantisocial” “actuallyschizoid” and so on).
