Welcome to my blog: Crackship Of The Week, where every week I post the best crackships, be they (in)famous or be they ones you may not know and/or wish exist! Feel free to leave suggestions for a crackship of the week in my asks!
Hi everyone! I ended up pretty inactive, haven't come back to this blog for a while, mostly for lack of drive and inspiration. Honestly I should probably make posts in batches and then schedule them so I can actually not lie in the very title of my blog for a change lol. Anyway, this particular crackship is very near and dear to my heart, as it features two of my favorite MCs from two of my favorite horror/fantasy series! Without further ado:
This Week's Crackship:
Guts (Berserk) × Ash Williams (Evil Dead)
Ship name(s): Gash (portmanteau of "Guts" and "Ash" ofc, and also a term for a nasty, gaping wound. Both characters make and receive quite a few of those), Blood and Guts (name of a track from the Berserk movie trilogy OST, is also what both characters are frequently covered in)
Why it's crack:
Separate canons/series
Guts is in a committed relationship
Both have extreme emotional issues, especially in regards to letting others get close to them due to repeatedly losing people they care about
Due to sexual trauma in his past, Guts has a severe aversion to physical contact -- so much so that he oncr freaked out from Puck (a goofy little chestnut-shaped pixie) touching him in a completely non-sexual way, and nearly strangled his partner Casca after having a psychotic episode in the middle of intimacy. On the flip side, Ash loves to fuck (probably a bit too much)
Ash is oftentimes a goofball, a loser, or both, and would likely piss Guts off sooner or later
Why it's cracked:
Similar personalities: both are vulgar, violent, and enjoy the brutal catharsis of confronting their traumas physically.
Both are basically heavily-armed hobos
They'd think each other's prosthetic arms are pretty groovy
Both are surprisingly smart (Guts is surprisingly knowledgeable on aerodynamics and Ash is a bit of an engineering genius who was able to make a fully-articulating prosthetic hand for himself using materials he had on hand in the 13th century)
They would find a lot of common ground in their similar traumas, and possibly welcome having a battle buddy that due to metaphysical chicanery is less prone to dying (Ash is the Chosen One and fated to triumph over evil, and Guts' state of residing between the physical and spiritual worlds renders him less subject to the schemes of fate)
All told, they are very, very similar. So much so in fact that Kentaro Miura (author of Berserk) feared a lawsuit from Sam Raimi (director of the OG Evil Dead trilogy and producer of the entire series) after going to a showing of Evil Dead 2 and noticing all of the unintended synchronicity between Ash and Guts
All told, this crackship is most certainly of the love/hate variety. It's been a long-ass time since I last posted, so this one is likely pretty rough. But to celebrate Berserk chapter 384 dropping, I wanted to babble about the series a bit in one form or another. Thanks for reading!
Crack Ship of the Week back again to celebrate the start of October with another crack ship! This is a special one, as it's also the first ship submission!
This Week's Crack Ship:
Michael Myers (Halloween) × Vincent Sinclair (House of Wax [2005])
Ship Name(s):
Mincent (portmanteau of Michael and Vincent. Also contains "mince", which is the kind of meat they're liable to turn their victims into)
Sinners (portmanteau of Sinclair and Myers, and also so called because most religions would agree that killing people for sport is a dick move)
Why It's Crack:
No interactions (separate canons)
Why It's Cracked:
Same role in respective canons (main villain)
Same character archetype (slasher)
Both frequently use knives with a chef-style blade
Both wear emotionless humanoid masks, and have a strong psychological attachment to their masks (Michael wears his to dehumanize himself, becomes distraught when unmasked. Vincent wears his to hide the extensive scarring on one half of his face)
Both have a penchant for making grotesque artistic displays of their kills. Michael tends to pose his victims on occasion, and Vincent regularly uses his victims as the base for his wax figures.
Myers in the Rob Zombie timeline was psychologically damaged due in large part to childhood trauma and toxic familial dynamics, similar to Sinclair.
All told, much potential abounds for a slasher yaoi couple that bonds over collaborating on grotesque corpse art and fucked up hunting trips. Be gay, do crime.
Crack Ship of the Week back again with another post! (After nearly an entire month) Lately I've been working a lot of 10+ hour shifts at my current job, along with helping out at my family's restaurant, updating my résumé, and searching for other jobs to advance my culinary career, so I've been really busy, sorry for not posting in quite a while. On the plus side, I've managed to network with some industry professionals higher up the ladder, and I was recently contracted by a personal chef agency!
Without further ado, let's bring out
This Week's Crackship:
Party Poison (Danger Days) × Johnny Silverhand (Cyberpunk)
Ship Name(s):
Poison Hand, Dim Mak (see notes below for explanation), Rockerboys, Ronin (see notes below for explanation)
Why It's Crack:
No interactions (separate canons)
Why It's Cracked:
Canons share many similarities. Both are cyberpunk series set in an alternate universe California in the near future (now partially set in the near past, as well), following a war or series of wars that negatively impacted the United States' geopolitical power, costing it territory that would be filled in by an independent city-state (Battery City in Danger Days, and Night City in Cyberpunk) and the resultant power vacuum being filled in by megacorporations (Better Living Industries in Danger Days and Arasaka in Cyberpunk. Like Arasaka, Better Living also seems to be a multinational corporation with at least some notable amount of presence in Japan, hence Better Living having had a .jp domain during the Danger Days album's promotional period, as well as using both English and Japanese writing in much of its content). Crossover potential abounds
Both fill very similar niches in their respective stories (renegade rockers who rebel against corporate overreach with the power of punk rock, and occasionally this gun they found. They both became the exemplar of their respective series' spin on the "rebel with a cause" archetype [Killjoys in Danger Days, and Rockerboys in Cyberpunk])
Both lived and operated in similar timeframes, not taking into account Johnny's engram who stars in Cyberpunk 2077. Party was active in the 2010s up until his death in 2019, and Johnny was active throughout the 2000s up until his death in 2023)
Both are war veterans (Johnny is a confirmed war veteran who deserted the US Military in protest of the government's corruption and purposeful destabilization of Central and South America. Party Poison was likely one of the many Killjoys to take part in the Analog Wars, as implied by the lyrics of The Only Hope For Me Is You)
Both died a similar death, to somewhat similar people, for similar reasons. Both raided the main HQ of their respective antagonistic megacorps in order to rescue an abducted loved one (surrogate little sister "The Girl" in Party's case, and former lover Alt Cunningham in Johnny's case), during which they were brutally gunned down by their corporate foes' bald and sociopathic enforcer (Korse and Adam Smasher, respectively)
Both dye their hair. Party Poison's hair is dyed red (natural color unknown afaik), and Johnny Silverhand dyes his hair black, with it being naturally blond.
Notes
"Dim Mak", also known as "Poison Hand" or "Touch of Death" is a purported system of acupressure-based martial arts said to have originated in ancient China and been culturally imported to Japan. Count Juan Raphael Dante, an eccentric martial arts practitioner who taught karate in the 60s and 70s, also claimed to be able to teach Dim Mak to prospective students, infamously advertising this alleged service in the back page ad spaces in Marvel comic books of the time. This likely was seen at times by Gerard Way, an avid comic fan, as he titled one of the songs in the wider Danger Days multimedia project as Black Dragon Fighting Society, which shares an identical name with the martial arts organization founded by Count Dante. "Dim Mak" is also the name of a record label founded by Steve Aoki, who made a remix of the famous My Chemical Romance song "Welcome to the Black Parade". This fact is also relevant to the ship as Dim Mak distributes punk rock music, with punk rock being the primary genre performed by both Party Poison and Johnny Silverhand.
"Ronin" was chosen a ship name due to their shared status as outlaw warriors, similar to (but generally less shitty towards bystanders than) the ronin of Sengoku and early Edo-period Japan. Party is an outlaw vigilante who fights against BLI, whereas Johnny is a former US soldier who deserted and fled prosecution by moving to Night City. In addition, this name was chosen in reference to Johnny's band, Samurai. Keanu Reeves, who portrays Johnny in Cyberpunk 2077, also starred in the 2013 American remake of The 47 Ronin (unfortunately)
This Week's Crackship:
Kenjaku (Jujutsu Kaisen) × Shabriri (Elden Ring)
Ship Name(s):
Kenjiri, Shabaku
Why it's crack:
No interactions
Separate canons
What makes it work:
Similar roles in their respective stories (near-immortal masterminds with plans extending across centuries, manipulating the plot of their respective series from behind the curtain and stepping in personally during the final stretch)
Both have signature body-hopping powers which they use to cultivate their schemes from multiple angles, their power leaves tell-tale signs on their bodies (forehead sutures in Kenjaku's case, eyes of Frenzy in the case of Shabriri)
Kenjaku canonically used his body-hopping to assume the identity of Kaori Itadori and take backshots for the sake of his/her master plan, Shabriri is theorized to have done the same under the guise of Nanaya (potential for taboo body-snatching genderfluid yuri)
Somewhat similar goals (Kenjaku intends to merge the entire population of Japan, and perhaps the world, with the evolved being Tengen to form a collective consciousness/the ultimate Cursed Spirit. Shabriri intends to give rise to The Lord of Frenzied Flame, who will utilize the power of Chaos to burn down all dividing and distinguishing characteristics of everything in existence and return it to a monad state known as The One Great)
