Added a new mechanic to The Harbinger of the Deep, Power Healing!

Name might not be final but it feels pretty good. Normally and not really explained to the Player, the Player heals 1 HP per 5 seconds when not at max health. Fine but quite slow especially once the Player has a lot more HP/Toughness upgrades.

With Power Healing, this rewards good aim with healing. Every 5 successful hits of any Action, whether to befriend or hurt, will grant the Player 1 HP healing. If you miss, a hit is deducted from that 5, slowing your potential healing.

I think it should be good in conjunction with the wait healing. This keeps the Player on their toes and active. I'll also look into adding descriptions for both healing methods in the Pause menu.

Updating more of the older mechanics like the Underlings spawned by the Bosses. I can set them to be much stronger for later ones. I've also added some music when encountering bosses.

Focusing a lot more on the end of the game, I'm essentially done with it now. I've also done some more tweaking, like with the parallax not being as bright and letting the elements take center stage when there are elements. The parallax simply fills out the black of the background.

I still have another thing I need to do for it to be fully complete, a secret route..

I've been also slowly but surely completing the lore of the various elements in the Sea, from the Tsunami and more!

With a little bit of willpower and a sliver of time, I finally got some cool little parallax to the Sea surface of the game.

There's still a lot of work, but I am so close to the full on polishing stage now!

It's been a few weeks and there hasn't been much progress with The Harbinger of the Deep. I did add one of the last big things of the game, the effects and the choices regarding morality.

Dialogue becomes shorter or ruder if you chose to be evil while it conversely becomes different when you choose to be good. Choices now have morality tied to some of them. It all adds to the usual friends, enemies, and slain Beings, that I've added before.

I do feel a little bored from all this but I still want to make the choices thought-provoking and that things you do really affect the world in more ways than one.

It's a lot more free this week but I decided to rest for some days. Joining both Steam Bullet Fest and SEAGS 2026 has bore some really good fruit in wishlists.

I've also started to do a morality meter. This will show the player whether they've done more good or evil, or none at all. It's connected now to the friending and enemying system, and I've added some dialog options that affect it. I still need to add the effects of those actions, what dialog do you see? What changes in the world happen? And all that.

The icon behind the player head will change depending on the current morality.

More Juicing to more Attacks in the game. I've added the same spawn animation for the Player that the Being got, while also juicing up the lightning attacks of the Beings.

The Harbinger of the Deep joins the Southeast Asian Games Showcase 2026! A wonderful event celebrating the many games of Southeast Asian developers!

I'm sadly not part of the Official Showcase, but I am part of the Steam Festival. You may see The Harbinger of the Deep later on in the festival dates.

Focusing a lot more on polishing and adding more lore to the Being dialogues these past few days. Beings have a bit better spawn animations for their frustrations.

Adding a bit more world building for the vast Sea. The player looks quite different to many of the Beings in the Sea. It'll slowly get explained in the later parts of the Sea.

It was proclaimed a holiday in our country so I got a bit of time to work on more stuff. I wanted to give the map a little more polishing and distinction between the areas, so it isn't just color separated. The lines only show when the map is zoomed out as seen above.

It's been a busy week with non-game dev stuff so there hasn't been that much progress with the game. But I have slowly completed the population of the Sea and essentially completed the final area of The Harbinger of the Deep!

I have also started to do more juicing and more SFX additions to the game. There's dedicated SFX for Being attacks, the lightning in some attacks and elements, and even ambient sounds when interacting with strong currents.

The Harbinger of the Deep is officially a part of Steam's Ocean Fest this May 18 to 25! To celebrate being a part of this festival, I'll be updating the demo for that time with the latest updates and fixes to the game! So stay tuned for that!

I decided to complete the 7th area this weekend. And it's looking pretty good gameplay-wise. Vision-wise though, I may need to go back again and add more stuff. I was hoping to do a little bit more different to really hit the theme of this area, but what I ended up with was more like Hollow Knight's White Palace.

But for now, I did decide to also start with the 8th area, a unique Being is shown above. If there's rich Beings, there's also gonna be super rich ones..

It's been a hot minute since I've had a lot of progress on The Harbinger of the Deep. Time is not on my side lately but I do hope to get some more things done this weekend.

With the little time I had, I did add some more to the 7th area, and added some extra sprites onto Beings. These are torments, kinda physical manifestations of the frustrations onto the Beings. In a way, you could say they're very close to be eternally Angered.

I may add some special sauce to them like heightened speed or damage to make them a little scarier but for a lore standpoint, I think they get the job done.
