I have a trans friend who will correct people on my pronouns when I don't bother, and I find it interesting.
I've gotten into some intense conversations about this with other trans friends, one of whom told me that by not correcting getting misgendered every single time it happens, I'm tolerating disrespect. I understand what they're saying, but overall I feel like, when I don't correct people who misgender me, I'm the one doing the disrespecting.
If I don't correct someone, it's because they are literally not worth the time it takes for me to utter the words. I would rather they have the wrong idea than take the time to engage with them even for a few seconds. I don't care what they think, least of all about what I may or may not have in my underpants. Before the day is over I will have forgotten they exist.
So, yeah. If I want to have any kind of continued relationship with you going forward, I will correct you, because I want you to know that about me. If I don't, meh.

I don't understand how Jared Leto keeps getting cast in movies? Like it would be one thing if he was a major box office draw, but he just seems to be a creepy rapist who has been in bomb after bomb after bomb.
I think about this so much. He's box office poison AND a sexual menace AND annoying to work with. HOW IS HE GETTING WORK?
I genuinely wonder if he or his agent have dirt on somebody, you know?

actually the hardest part of being jewish is attempting to impart on my cats that my tzitzit are NOT toys, unlike 90% of the other strings in the house
its like the jewish version of this tweet to me
you're laughing. charles dickens had a son named plorn and you're laughing
HE HAD A SON NAMED
WHAT
NICK I LOOKED IT UP AND SAW NOTHING OF THE SORT IS THIS A PRANK
technically his name was edward but everyone called him plorn
Edward âPlornâ Dickens. my god.
I have something worse
imagine getting stuck with the nickname Plorn
imagine getting sent to live in the Australian outback when you were sixteen
WHY WERE THEY SO CRUEL TO MY BOY PLORN
I have an answer to that one too
The face of a man whose father nicknamed him Plorn.
Born without a groove đ
With each addition to this, I find myself nodding and murmuring, "Mm hm. The Plorn Dickens."
â
my depressed son can't even dance. get thee to oz
Well now I want Plorn to be visited by three Spirits who help him get his groove back.
can anyone find me that mesopotamian clay tablet telling you to marry a party girl because she'll bring you joy
It's from the "Maxims of Ptahhotep", purportedly written by a 96-year-old vizier to pass on his wisdom to his son:
If you marry a good-time girl
A joyful woman known to her town,
If she is wayward,
and revels in the moment,
do not reject her, but instead let her enjoy;
joyfulness is what marks calm water.
yay ty. Between the above and the links in the mentions we have 3 translations total
Happy Wife Happy Life is 4.5k years old
Other sites also have the "Does anyone have this image?" posts, but only on tumblr you'll find "Does anyone have that mesopotamien clay tablet?" posts.
[image description: a screenshot of a tumblr thread.
first in the thread is a transcription of the poem next to the hieroglyphic version. It reads: âif you marry a party girl, one known as fun loving to her townsfolk, if she is rather unregulated, and indulges for a while, do not deny her, but let her enjoy herself; as a light heart makes for navigable watersâ. The tumblr user who posted it writes: âadvice from 4500 years agoâ.
The reblog in the image is a different translation of the same writing. It says: âif you marry an outgoing woman, full of joy, loved by all, fickle and impulsive, never get rid of her; keep her well fed. Her joy will become yours!â. Another tumblr user captions it, âI like the translation. âit would be wise of you to remember thisâ.â End ID]
THE SHAPE OF WATER (2017) dir. Guillermo del Toro
These are the best tags @puddleâwonderful
Good catch! Shape of the Water doesnt use modern day American sign language, but this was intentional. There were two ASL coaches who taught Sally Hawkins (the main actress) how to sign using period appropriate ASL to match the time period depicted in the film.
^^^ ALL of this!
sometimes i wonder if we have forgotten that sharing creative work is, fundamentally, a bid for human connection. like I'm not posting art or fic for 'engagement' i'm posting it looking for other sickos to play with! i'd be making it anyway for my own gratification because there's something wrong with me, i'm sharing it hoping we can have something wrong with us together <3
Miss Piggy's Guide to Life Photos
My son gave me a card that said, "You are the best mom ever" so I asked him if he collected empirical evidence to back up that claim. He admitted to doing no research at all; therefore it's purely anecdotal and cannot be trusted. I have hung this sentimental atrocity on my office wall.
