Everything you need to know in order to understand Doctor Who. Done in Cross-stitch.
Expressly for Tecolotes. The cross-stitch bit doesn't look too difficult, but I think I'd go crazy stitching the quote.

First cross-stitch pattern in maybe 12 years? Courtesy of Tecolotes. Baby steps. Anyway, I think these are calla lilies. Let me know if you have other ideas.

Another package from Tecolotes! Somebody loves me.
This one contained a ton of stuff.

Tentacle Pot Pies (click through for pics) To make four pot pies you’ll need: •Your favorite chicken pot pie recipe, I like this classic Chicken Pot Pie from Simply Recipes •A bowl and a plate for each diner •Two boxes of puff pastry, or two tubes of Pillsbury Crescent Seamless Dough Sheets •A pizza cutter •Clean kitchen shears Using the pizza cutter cut eight strips into your dough that are about 1.5 inches wide, then cut each of those strips diagonally. If you’re using puff pastry sheets cut two sheets into eight equal strips then use the a third sheet to cut out four circles. If you’re using crescent dough you’ll have enough left over in each sheet to also cut two rounds to top the pot pie, as shown above. Do the same for the second sheet of crescent dough. Since the tentacles will cook and brown fairly quickly make sure your pot pie filling is hot before spooning into the bowls. Fill the bowls about 3/4ths full. Place the bowls onto plates, these will go into the oven together. First position the tentacles. Pick them up by the wide end and drape them by lowering the narrow end down to the the plate first, then up the edge of the bowl and over the lip of the bowl. If the wide end of the tentacle extends further than an inch in towards the center of the bowl simply trim it with kitchen scissors before letting it go. Why are we doing this? If we have too many overlapping layers of dough in the center they won’t cook through and it’s pretty icky, trust me, I learned this the hard way. We’re draping the end of the tentacle onto the plate because in my trials when the dough simply hung over the edges of the bowl the tentacles gave way to gravity and fell off while cooking. Besides, they look extra spooky spreading out onto the plate. Now just plop your circle of dough on top of the pot pie, covering the wide ends of the tentacles. Place two, or more if you’d like, sliced black olives on top as eyes. Bake in a 325 degree oven until the dough is golden brown. Be sure to warn your diners that the plates will be hot.”
I know we haven't been posting much, and I apologize. Tecolotes and I crafted this blog right before our fall classes started. Now we're getting into the thick of the semester and it's been difficult for me to fit in fun things. (FYI: I'm an LIS student at Syracuse and I have a ridiculous amount of reading to do every week. But I digress.)
I know we are barely halfway through September, but I'm excited for this season. Particularly the holidays. Particularly Halloween. I love baking too. Well, cooking in general. I also love how creative one can get with foods to make them a bit more festive. Like these tentacle pot pies.
This recipe is incredibly simple, as it calls for pre-made dough. The somewhat difficult part is in making the crusts.
Over the weeks leading up to Halloween, you may expect some more ghoul-themed baking posts. I can't want to show you my creepy cookie cutter collection!

Tecolotes is a Doctor Who nut, so expect a lot of Doctor Who-related items. This looks easy enough for even me to put together!

Finally had a chance to visit Michaels today. Procured the rest of the materials I need to cross stitch: a hoop, needles and more floss. I also ended up buying another rubber stamp and ink. They were on sale! Couldn't resist.
Anyway, my floss came with a free pattern. I opened it up and it scared me. It looks so busy. It's the first time I've looked at a cross-stitch pattern in years. I think I'll start with a much easier pattern, perhaps one of those 8-bit ones I posted about before.

I don't know if you guys can tell yet, but Tecolotes and I ♥ snail mail.
Received this lovely package in the mail today. Particularly liked the Christmas wrapping paper. Haha.
The box is chock full of goodies! Thread, cross-stitch fabric, tea and a snarky little card that reads: "If drinks aren't involved, neither am I." Truth.
It's like a craft-preparedness kit. Almost everything I need to get started.
