Sirius Black Imagine Re-imagined
So, hey everyone. This is a veryyyy old imagine I wrote a few years ago, and well I just felt like rewriting, instead of 3 parts, it’s now one big one-shot.
The old summary read:
Imagine you know the marauders since your first year at Hogwarts. You have been best friends with all of them. James has been like your older brother, Peter a younger sibling. Remus is someone who knows your every secret (ever since you found out of his furry little problem in first year) and Sirius had been there always, you’d tease each other and have each other’s back. If some guy you were into did something wrong? He’d have a bloody nose by the end of the day. And some girl broke his heart she’d have puke-green skin for the rest of the month. You have always played pranks with James and Sirius, study with Remus in the library and stuff your face with Peter. And that’s how it’s been for the last years. But now? Now you saw Sirius differently.
“Love, wake up.” The familiar voice stirred you from your deep slumber. Having known James all your life, or close to all your life, you’d recognize his voice even in your sleep, quite literally. But you had to admit it sounded even more annoying than usual when it woke you up from the warm, comfortable lie in you are having.
“Five more minutes, will ya? Please?” James was your childhood best friend; you’d known him since you were about eight years old. When you both enrolled at Hogwarts for your first year, you made a bet with him. Whoever got on the team and became Quidditch captain first would have the other do something they wanted. It was silly and quite thoughtless to make such a bet with no one other than James Potter himself, the little brat with a heart of gold but who loved to tease you. Since you were in third year, you’d tried your best to keep your temper in check around him, or he might make you snog Severus if and when he got the chance.
You heard him sigh loudly and curled your body around itself, rubbing against the warm bedsheets.
“You do realize you’re naked, right?” That cleared your mind instantly as you bolted from the bed, landing yourself on the floor next to the small. It didn’t take much to realize he had been lying and you wondered what made you trust James’ word. You really ought to know better by now.
“See Moony? I did it.” James chuckled and walked over to his own bed, already fully dressed in his uniform and ready for the day.
“Yes Prongs, and all you had to do was throw her out of his bed.” Remus was leaning against his own bed’s poster and was, also, fully dressed and about to head down to have breakfast.
He moved over and offered me his hand, which I took gratefully.
“Technically, she threw herself.”
“Yes, yes, very funny James…” I straightened my clothes before looking around. This wasn’t really my first time crashing over at the boy’s dormitory, much to Lily’s dismay but this time I had no recollection of going to sleep in here, or at all really.
“So… Why am I here?”
“Well, -” From the bathroom door behind me came a voice, which alerted me to Sirius’ presence in the room. “Remember when you asked me for help on that transfiguration essay? Oh please Padfoot” – he said in a ridiculous voice and raising a hand to his forehead while leaning against the wall dramatically as always – “There is no way I will ever pass this class without you, you’re just so brilliant, my hero” – he then returned to normal – “You fell asleep on me about 20 minutes in.”
You didn’t know if you should laugh at his terrible impression or feel sorry for him, had he carried you from the common room? And then of course he couldn’t take you up to your dorm. A faint memory of the essay was indeed in your mind, and it had been late in the evening. There was probably no one else in the common room by the time you fell asleep.
“Sorry.”
There was a towel in hand which he was using to dry his very wet hair. He walked over to his bed, the one you were standing by and started to dress, and even though it wasn’t really anything you hadn’t seen before, and you couldn’t deny the very nice view, you had much better things to do, such as get some food in you.
“Alright, I’m going to the girl’s dormitory and change. See you all at breakfast.”
You left the room, ignoring the quite odd expression on Remus’ face.
“Thank you, again, Padfoot”.
Before the door closed you heard him scream out No worries love.
--
“Where, in Merlin’s sake, were you?” Lily asked you when you sat next to her, down in the great hall for breakfast later that morning. Most of the food was gone by now.
You had gone back to your room, only to find it empty. You rushed into some of your clothes (the classic uniform, with a Gryffindor scarf for the extra heat) and made your way down hoping to still catch something to eat.
“I fell asleep in the library, actually” You weren’t really sure why you were lying.
“So, you’re telling me you slept there?”
“Sure.”
“Yeah right. Like I’d believe that. Here, I saved you some breakfast.” She pushed a plate over to you and you licked you lips appreciatively. “Thank you, Lily, you’re the best.”
You started to eat, just for her to warn you to eat faster, because it was almost time for History of Magic. Oh dear. Who, in their right mind, would put History of Magic as the first class of the day, while people were still half-asleep?
History of Magic was, by far, your least favourite subject. Not only did you not care for the course itself, you also had the most boring professor in the history of the world, Professor Binns. He droned on and on with the same monotone voice that did wonders for your beauty sleep.
When you were done with breakfast, and Lily started to drag you to the classroom, you tried to walk as slow as possible to prolong the journey. The two of you found Marlene on her way down to her own class, Care for Magical Creatures. You wished you could join her instead. By the time you got to the class, it hadn’t even started.
You took your usual seat, in the back of the class, where you could catch up on some sleep more discreetly. Lily, however, sat in the front, with James next to her. He didn’t particularly care for the class either, but he did love the chance to sit next to her. Maybe you hoped he would take it easier on you for not taking that seat, given that you were her best friend as well and sat together for a lot of the other classes. Maybe such nice acts would keep you away from Severus’ lips or Dumbledore’s beard. Since the professor had yet to arrive, you stopped doodling on a piece of parchment, put your arms on the table, placed your head on them and closed your eyes.
“Dreaming of me?” Someone breathed on your ear. You couldn’t really tell how long it had passed, but your guess was not too long because the class still hadn’t begun. The classroom was filling up with students, which included the marauders. Looking over at the front of the classroom, you easily spotted James, who had already taken his seat next to Lily. Now you were stuck with Sirius speaking from above you.
Remus and Peter made it to their table, which sat immediately in front of yours, and Sirius sat down noisily in the chair on your right, scooting it closer to the table and to you before resting his feet on the table. The other two boys turned their chair around to face us.
“You wish, Padfoot.” You smirked at him along with the rest of the group. He lowered his legs and his chair clanked rather loudly on the floor. He got really close to your face, which by now was a natural occurrence that you found yourself used to, and, with a clear smirk on his face, whispered. “I do (Y/N), I really do.”
It was so low you doubted the boys had heard it. Maybe Remus. He always did have better hearing, given his “furry little problem”.
Sirius was still so close you could smell his cologne. When you didn’t answer, he laughed, leaning back again with his arms behind his head and a satisfied smile on his face. He closed his eyes, looking extremely relaxed.
You turned to the front and realized Remus, who hadn’t said anything yet was looking at you with a raised brown and a small knowing smile. Before you could ask him why they weren’t at the great hall when you got there, the teacher appeared.
“Lupa! Pettinet! Turn around. Bock! That is no position to be when you’re in a classroom.”
At the professor’s words, Sirius slowly removed his legs from the desk, the chair making an even louder noise this time, uncrossed his arms and leaned forward, undoubtedly repressing the need to make a crude joke about positions he would rather be in while in some deserted classroom.
“And the boredom begins.” He said to you once Binns was at the front of the class and started talking about the goblin rebellions.
It didn’t take long for you to drift off and stop hearing what the teacher was saying. You scribbled random letters and patterns on your parchment and Sirius produced paper planes and made them fly over to other students when Professor Binns wasn’t looking. When that, too, became too boring, he started to think of ways to annoy you. You weren’t really paying attention to him, so he snatched the quill from your hand, holding it in your reach until you made a grab for it, then keeping it away from you. You jumped forward and he held it upwards. You jumped upwards and he held it forwards. This continued for longer than you’d like to admit. He finally held it up to your face, just when you were starting to get really annoyed.
A quick jump from you and a swift and well placed grab from him, and you now sat in his lap. He smirked at you, piercing grey eyes scanning over your face.
“You could have just asked for it, love. I’d have gladly given it to you.” He teased, one arm around your waist and handed you the quill with the other hand. “Also, you can have your quill.” He continued with a wink, so very proud of his joke.
“(L/N)! Bleth! Must I ask you every class to keep your love affairs out of the classroom? Detention! TODAY! And five points from Gryffindor.”
Not that you were trying to beat James and Sirius’ record, but detention wasn’t much more than a normal occurrence for the past years.
--
“Detention? Really? You promised we’d finished the Charms essay tonight.” Lily said, for the third time, during dinner.
“I’m sorry, Lily. Blame that idiot, not me.” I pointed at Sirius who was sitting opposite to me. He glared and I didn’t look away. “I was just minding my own business in class.”
“You know Evans, if you really need help, Prongs here is also very good at Charms.”
The messy black-haired boy smiled brightly, nodding, with a hopeful look crossing his face that was immediately knocked off at Lily’s voice.
“No way. In hell.” James opened his mouth to say something, but Lily interrupted him and for a moment I actually thought she was just going to get up and join Marlene or Alice away from us.
“Well, dinner’s almost over. Padfoot, we should go.” You got up, done with your plate. You leaned on Remus who was sitting next to you as you watched Sirius finish stuffing his face.
“Are you in that much of a hurry to be alone with me? We have all night.” He grinned at you and you let a smile grace your lips. Leaning away from Remus and turning on your heels you started leaving the hall.
You greeted Wood on your way to Professor Binns’ office. He was in his 7th year now and had given up his spot as Captain last year to you. You were on the train at the time, about to come back home at the end of 5th year, when he approached you to be quidditch captain.
At the moment James was going through a rough time, his parents were sick and he was feeling terrible over that and so you told Wood he deserved it more. You might not appreciate the power it had given James, but you had no regrets, he had been so happy when Wood told him. The truth was James had no idea Wood had asked you first.
“Let me guess (L/N), detention?” He smirked, arms crossed, leaning against the stone wall.
“You know it, Wood.” You called over your shoulders and he laughed, shaking his head incredulously. The term had barely begun and here you were already in trouble, typical. “Have fun, then.”
Once you passed Wood, it took a very short time for Sirius to catch up to you, slinging an arm around your shoulders as you two made your way through the familiar Hogwarts corridors. He kept asking you stupid questions like “Are you mad?” on the way because you left. You were too used to his comments to even get mad at him anymore, knowing he was just having a laugh, and you joined in most of the time.
“Finally. I have been waiting for too long. You’ll be doing lines today.” He said and then left. Amateur.
“Lines? How original…” Sirius commented before charming two quills to write without you two having to do anything. You two chatted for a while.
“How’s it been with Anna?” Anna was Sirius’ latest conquest. He stopped fooling around with different items from the classroom and walked over to its centre, where you sat perched in one of the tables. “I mean, she was giving you some pretty nasty looks at dinner. Did you do anything?”
He stood with one arm on each side of your legs and you were a little higher than him so he had to look up, as opposed to what you were accustomed to.
“We, uh, we broke up, a couple weeks ago.”
Oh.
You weren’t expecting that.
They had seemed so happy when you saw them together, especially during meals.
“What happened?” You almost cursed yourself when you realized how you hadn’t even noticed you best friend had broken up with his girlfriend.
“Let’s call it… different interests.” He laughed humourlessly.
He was looking down, avoiding your gaze but you couldn’t figure out why. You shrugged it off and did your best to show him some support.
“Different interests?”
“Yape. Can we just- ?”
“Wait, if you’re telling me you broke up with her to focus on your studies then I’m calling you out on that. You can’t fool me, Sirius. Unless it’s quidditch.”
“No, love, it’s not that.” He smiled. “I just found interest in someone and I thought I shouldn’t keep dating her while all I could think about was another girl. Wouldn’t be very fair.” You had never heard him speak about another girl in this way. You were… surprised, but curious.
“Are you serious?” He smirked, finally looking up at you, his hair partially covering his eyes. You’d think after all this time you wouldn’t ask that.
“Ok, forget I said that.” You laughed together. “But you start dating this girl and break up with her for a crush?”
“It’s not a crush. This isn’t some girl.” He said defensively, but didn’t pull away from her.
“I don’t know how to explain it.” He was calmer now. “I don’t know how to explain it. I’ve felt this way for some time, but it’s all been building up, getting stronger, stronger than I ever felt for anyone.”
You were divided between the pang of jealously you felt that made you want to throw up and the fact that you wanted your friend to be happy, above all. You even wanted to ask, “Is it James?”, but he really seemed to feel for whoever this girl was.
“Someone tamed the biggest man-whore in Hogwarts?” You laughed. Perhaps the jealously won out.
“Alright, well.” He pushed away from you and started to move backwards, when you reached and grabbed his arm, pulling him up to you, your faces closer to each other than normal.
“Ok, ok, I’m sorry. Can you please, please, tell me who this girl is? Maybe I can help.” You offered, even if it hurt you.
“I can’t -” He started, looking desperately into your eyes.
“Please” You begged, dangerously close to him. You knew it was wrong. He liked someone else. Was it Marlene? He looked down at your lips.
“It’s, uh, it’s you.” He said, nervously, before grinning. “Thought you knew, actually. The lads were helping me plan this whole thing. I was going to tell you.”
You were lost at words, what was there to say? The look on his face showed the obviously took that the wrong way.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have.” He pulled back, running a hand through his hair. He started to walk away, obviously embarrassed, to the door to leave detention early.
“Wait, Sirius.” The initial shock was over.
“I just, well, I didn’t exactly, er, expect it, but I, well, how can I say this, I kind of, you know, feel the, uh, feel the same way, so maybe we could-” You stumbled over your words, not having expected this, but were interrupted by his hand on the back of your neck as he pulled you in to a kiss.
It was gentle, soft. But it was all you could have wished for.
