valgrace is all fun and games in fanon until i remember that in canon one of them had to die so leo made sure it was himself and came back to life only to find out that jason had died anyway.

and mind you jason spent months searching for leo, refusing to believe he was dead, and found out he survived through lester. he was right and he was about to be reunited with leo and then jason died. do you think he thought about leo in his last few seconds of consciousness? about how he was so close to seeing him again but wouldnt get to?

and then remember how leo got to lester’s group as soon as he could after reaching camp jupiter, excited to see jason again? but then realized almost immediately he’s not there.

“So, I got good news and bad news from New Rome, but first…” He scanned our faces. His expression began to crumble. “Where’s Jason?”

I FEEL SICK.

the first thing leo says after breaking down over jason’s death is that he didn’t get to say goodbye while staring at the cargo hold thats holding his dead body. and then when he’s trying to explain what happened to him in camp jupiter he keeps glancing at the cargo hold and cant even think. leo valdez, child genius, is so distraught he says, “Gods. I can’t even think right now. Is that normal? Like, just forgetting how to think?” AND IN THIS ESSAY I WILL—😭

i think it’s the most funny and romantic thing ever that they’re so attracted to each other in dangerous/deathly situations. in both those scenes, they are an absolute mess - percy covered in dirt, blood, and spiderwebs, and annabeth covered in muck and sewer water - and yet they find each other so beautiful. they could literally be about to DIE, and yet all they’re thinking is “wow you look so hot right now.” i just love when they percabeth like that. they are so funny.

also. perseus jackson, where the HELL were you going with that thought about the way her beads looked on her throat before you stopped yourself, young man?

Percy immediately putting his sword down when he thinks he hurt Luke. Saying “I’m sorry” because he doesn’t want to hurt him. Even if Luke is the traitor. Only for Luke to take advantage of his kindness and draw blood.

THAT is the difference between Luke and Percy.

i still can't believe the LA Times article/interview just. openly admits that the show intentionally, from the beginning, fully removed Gabe being abusive and overtly made him just a nosy loser. Percy's relationship with Gabe is so important to how he navigates the world and the themes of the series. Percy's first monster is in his own home. He uses wards against evil against his step-father and they work. He has overt PTSD that colors his interactions with Mr. D and is why he's so antagonistic towards him for like four books. It isn't until Percy is able to move past his trauma and how Mr. D reminds him of Gabe that he sees Mr. D for who he actually is and understand him and begin to empathize with him. Heck, even into HoO we see Percy having visceral reactions to implications of alcohol/drinking because of Gabe. Everything about Percy's home life colors him as a character. His trauma and PTSD informs his perspective and they explicitly removed his PTSD in the show.

They removed Percy's PTSD. They brush over his experiences as a neurodivergent/disabled kid after the first episode and turned Sally into an Autism Speaks mom. Why. On what planet was that a reasonable change to be made.

My biggest beef with the way Annabeth was written in the show is that I think Rick fell into his own trap. Like his whole thing with Annabeth is that just because someone doesn’t look smart doesn’t mean they aren’t. And while it’s about their literal looks for both the show and the book, book Annabeth also sometimes acted in ways that people wouldn’t stereotypically associate with “smart” because I think we’ve all be condition to think bbc sherlock no emotions genius is the only way to be smart. Book Annabeth acts super flustered around Luke because she's a kid and she has a crush on him, she's afraid of spiders, and wanted to see the arch just because she thought it was cool. In general book Annabeth is allowed to be sillier and have a wider range of emotions than show Annabeth without it detracting from the fact that Annabeth is smart. I find this whole "stoic genius" idea is often used to put down teenage girls for being dumb and superficial just because they show emotions and the only way to beat it is to be cold, calculating, and emotionless and most people just aren't like that.

SOMETHING about they way sally and poseidon interact during that whole 3 minutes suggests that this isn't the first time they've seen and talked to each other. She's not surprised when he shows up--she knows he's going to, and to me, that means that he's done so before. The way poseidon responded when she asked if he wanted to talk to percy--the pain on his face suggests she's asked him that before, but he knows his answer has to be the same. The way it starts raining--a sign, one she knows because it's happened before. The way they're not looking at each other but they both WANT to, they're both trying to hold themselves back--it was too hard the last time. There are so many things said in between their words, so many things said with just the way they act. They're not uncomfortable, just cautious--they can't be found out, cant be seen together, cant let the gods know about percy, cant let percy know about himself or his dad or any of it because it's too soon what if i kill myself
