this is so beautiful
I always loved the detail put into these. Same with the windows that look a bit grimy and cracked. It really feels like a separate world with its own history
Yes I do believe the devs used real photos for most of the world textures in hl2, gives such a great earthiness to the environment, the juxtoposition between the completely realistic look to the surfaces with the flatness and generally quite simple world geometry is just such a fucking aesthetic its so good
well ive been informed that using photographs as textures is actually quite commonplace and what makes hl2 textures more unique in fact is the editing and specifically sharpening used on the images , basically im dumbass and should shut up but i think my point still stands cool
Not gonna lie guys I’m feeling real stupid over this one
dont worry we love you
ghhhf ghu thank you *cries*
pls take a moment to appreciate some of half life 2’s creepiest ambient sounds
kudos to valve sound designers for creating a perfect atmosphere

People really don’t know how hilarious the leaked half life 2 beta is. As it was never intended to be seen by the public it was totally ok to have stuff like this in the game.

Playful Seniors Wear Organic Materials to Personify Nature
“Eyes as Big as Plates” is a whimsical series by Finnish photographer Riitta Ikonen and Norwegian photographer Karoline Hjorth that features senior citizens donning organic materials like twigs and grass. Ikonen says that the collaborative project originally began as “a play on characters and protagonists from Norwegian folklore” but has since evolved into a collection of images exploring “mental landscapes” that reflect a return of body to nature with the use of scavenged materials.
Eyes as Big as Plates is running a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a book featuring seniors from all around the world.

”When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God….”
— Leviticus 19:9-10
I know farmers that do this, I used to live in an area where fruit trees grew, on the road we lived, the trees on the edge by the road were always left for the neighbors and travelers to pick, and when my mom taught me how to make jam, we went to buy peaches from the neighbors stand, when he found out why, he refused to sell, but invited us to pick the freshly fallen fruit from his orchard, to take as much as we wanted by the bucket load so it was not wasted and make a mess he had to clean up, as he couldn’t sell the ground fallen fruit for health inspector reasons. We made loads and shared it with our neighbors.
Without capitalism, humans are naturally inclined to share with and care for others. There’s more than enough to go around as long as people aren’t greedy.
