i feel like there was a lot of potential for the end of go3 to have a moment for god to be like “you would sacrifice yourself for humanity? you, who have seen all the worst they would have to offer?”
with the point being that these two, who have witnessed all of everything, would give up their profound and fate-defying love for each other for humans. who are flawed and messy and keep almost destroying each other. therefore proving some pratchett-y message about humans and growth and stories, or what have you.
and then, at least, it would feel like some proto-answer from god. like, yes her creations are imperfect, but they have proven themselves capable of change and betterment and love and wonderful, wonderful things. so here, at the end of all things, she is ready to let those creations go into a free world, with no fate, and no guidance from her. like a mother watching her child grow. because if azi/crowley can vouch for humans, then surely they must be ready.
maybe the two still become humans, but at least it would feel a little less… like she was taunting them? i dunno, that whole monologue just felt very hostile, which i wish had been avoided.
my personal preference with this would be to then have some kind of compromise. like, they get to become humans and enjoy human life, but keep the memories. or get to fall in love through every era (and have that shown explicitly on camera instead of the garden scene). i think them becoming human IS a good way to end (heaven and hell are broken systems that need re-doing, and you can’t exactly keep them angel and demon without some serious plot armor), i just think the mechanism was flawed.
and also, minor point, i think it would have been cool to have jesus in on that conversation. i’m not well versed in the mythos here, but shouldn’t the two of them share authority in some way? it feels like a better direction to take his character than just leaving him for no reason.
