Superhero Girls

Barbara Gordon: The two were in the same computer club back in Gotham so Batgirl was excited to see Lonnie in Metropolis. Their alter egos would collide with the two of them finding out each other's secret identities.

Jessica Cruz: Lonnie comes to like Jessica due to her activism and strong moral stances. He can get impatient with her less thought out methods though. He really doesn't have an issue with Green Lantern beyond an obstacle to his goals, though her willingness to talk things out is appreciated.

Diana Prince: Diana's stellar performance in school and passion for sticking up for those weaker than her cause Lonnie to grow to admire her. Those same traits would lead to similar admiration for Wonder Woman though he gets frustrated by her refusal to fight "the real enemies"

Karen Beecher: Karen's aptitude for technology would impress Lonnie and her shy demeanor would at times trigger his protection instinct. The former would be transferred to Bumblebee and her willingness to handle things peacefully somewhat won Lonnie over.

Kara Danvers: Lonnie would be put off by the Kryptonian's brash and confrontational personality as well as her distaste for "nerd stuff". Her aggressive and short tempered behavior as Supergirl would further fuel his distaste for the cousin of Superman.

Zee Zatara: The nicest thing Lonnie can say about Zee is that she is a fundamentally nice person. But between her wealthy status, zeal for "frivolities" like fashion and her shameless showing off of her magic powers, that's as far as it goes.

Supervillain Girls

Harleen Quinzel: Like with Barbara, Harley was excited to welcome a fellow Gothamite though Lonnie would come to find her too loud for his liking. He would likewise have a mixed relationship with her villainous persona Harley Quinn with Lonnie getting irritated at the clown's insistence that her chaos was the same as Anarky's er anarchy but they would at times make common cause.

Pamela Isley: Pamela's devotion to protecting the environment would earn Lonnie's approval, as Poison Ivy her disregard for human life would (ironically) see her taking things too far as Anarky.

Selina Kyle: Selina's overwhelm materialism (and willingness to rob the poor as well as the rich) would sour Lonnie's opinion almost immediately. Still Anarky and Catwoman could occasionally work together, albeit with neither trusting the other.

Leslie Willis: Lonnie would be disgusted by Leslie's petty trolling and Livewire's casual sadism.

Doris Zeul: Whether as Doris or Giganta Lonnie's opinion is basically the same, a dumb brute best avoided.

Carol Ferris: Lonnie basically just pitys her for her obsession with Hal Jordan

Back in 1990, George Perez produced a stunning 12 plate portfolio of Batman artwork, including his covers for "A Lonely Place of Dying"

However, he also did a thirteenth plate for an edition which was only available from Warner Bros Stores (Remember those?)

And what a plate it was, Batman and Robin sneaking through a nightmarish Gothic... Cathedral? Asylum? Petting Zoo (It is Gotham City)

And the villains! Anarky, Catman, Joker, Catwoman, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Ra's Al Ghul, Black Mask, Two-Face, Riddler, Clayface III, Scarecrow, Cavalier, Penguin, Tweedledee, Deadshot, Mad Hatter, Killer Moth, Tweedledum, Dagger and Dr Phosphorus (and I've probably missed a few)

Lonnie Machin (Anarky)

Lonnie, prior to the reboot, was conceived as and most prominently depicted as a politically left-anarchist character until his creator and primary writer, Alan Grant, began getting into Randian Neo-Tech Objectivism and projected it onto Lonnie as Lonnie was always his political mouthpiece. However, despite Lonnie's political sway going from more anarcho-communist to objectivist, he was always a character who had near-unwavering, passionate stances on social issues. He considered anyone who preyed on the common man, or "enemies of the people", to be *his* enemies, and he often came at this from a leftist point of view. He was a strong supporter of social justice for the oppressed, and it was his sorrow and outrage at oppression that led him to take up vigilantism. He despised fascism and considered anyone who used initiatory violence against others to be opposed to him. To Lonnie, anarchism is a philosophy of total freedom from oppression, self-determination, and helping your fellow man, not 'chaos'.

He was also *very* anti-gun and anti-weapon of mass destruction. Whenever he used bombs, they were often smoke bombs or paint bombs. On the one single occasion he used actual bombs to blow up a munitions factory, he evacuated everyone in the building before it blew up, as he cares for the lives of innocents and does not kill. The one single time that it is implied that he killed, his victim was a man who blew up 20+ innocent people in a public setting via bombing and used him as a scapegoat. He has said before that he 'can't let innocent people die because of him'. He holds to this even if he can be clumsy in his methods. When he once experienced a machine-induced dream in which Gotham City descended into fiery chaos because of his well-intentioned actions, he had a crying breakdown.

And, on the Joker - in his 1999 solo series, there is a plot point that is left open-ended that implies the Joker could be Lonnie's biological father, as he is an adoptee. This was done to cement Lonnie into the Batman mythos, as his creators Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle cared a lot about him. When editors disapproved of this, they let Grant write it on the condition that he would prove it wrong later on, but after the Joker issue the series was canceled, and so for all intents and purposes, it was not meant to be lasting 'canon'. Lonnie has been known to hate the Gotham Rogues, as he considers their actions against the people of the city to be completely antithetical to his views and ideals, some of the most important things to him. When he thought that the Joker could've been his father, he had a breakdown. He visited Arkham in order to find out and the Joker briefly played on his (at the time, a 16 year old child) yearning to figure out his parentage in the wake of his adoptive parents' implied death (with some genetic determinism 'does this mean i'll be a "madman" too? involved, but, eugh), but once the Joker tried to use Lonnie to help him break out of Arkham, Lonnie quickly acted against him to prevent his escape. It is said in a (dubiously canon) Batman encyclopedia that the crisis that the Joker could have been his father put him through caused him to self-isolate even harder than he normally does for a while until Cassie Sandsmark's speech during YJ: Sins of Youth inspired him back onto the field. Needless to say, he hates the Joker, and his hatred for the Joker's actions was enough to override his want for a parental figure.

In the post-reboot continuity, Lonnie is no longer an adoptee and his single mother would tell him the Joker was his 'real father' and would come and get him if he misbehaved. He began writing letters to the Joker, who eventually tried to get Lonnie to 'impress' him by giving Batman a 'rehearsal' before his wedding. Lonnie did this by gathering militant anti-feminist terrorists and gun nuts alongside leftists and anti-fascists in one place in order to get them to fight each other and cause 'blood, smoke, and chaos.'

Would Lonnie fucking do that?

losing my mind watching a 40 year old white man tear down turning red, claiming "it alienated me", and that it's a niche film (because it's about an asian-canadian teenage girl set during 2002) and therefore is made for a niche audience so will not be relatable to a wider audience and i

i cannot even begin to express how much this guy is telling on himself here as someone who refuses to enjoy or respect the perspective of anyone who isn't just like him (or what he wants to be...? like. this guy said that 'until now, pixar has had a great track record, much like marvel!' we get it, you can relate to genetically modified captain america and the hulk who turns into a giant green monster when he gets too emotional but a third generation immigrant chinese girl who turns into a giant red panda when she gets emotional is just going too far)

i'm just. so tired of these piss-weak takes. he's one of the i'm-not-racist-but people.

you are still upholding and enforcing white-only narratives if you only want people of color to exist as one dimensional side characters with zero insight into their culture.

even the director who has said that the story is semi-autobiographical - she and the production designer both stated that it is not a chinese film, but that it is a coming of age film that happens to be about a chinese girl.

and that is obvious from just watching it, the metaphor in the film is obvious, the intention of the film is clear! this is about the teenage experience, and everyone's adolescent experience is different. the fact that this escapes a 40 year old man is hilarious, and so, so pathetic.

tldr; when you have a problem with a multi-cultural story about growing up, purely because it does not reflect or mirror your own culturally barren upbringing, that's on you for being, and remaining, xenophobic and racist.

With Eugene marrying rapunzel, who is heir to the dark kingdom? I mean the logical answer is Eugene and Rapunzel’s second born but in the meanwhile? Varian?????

Why would Varian be the heir to the Dark Kingdom? Quirin isn’t next in line in any respect. Knights are not in line for the throne of the king they serve.

Historically, knights in most kingdoms received land in exchange for their service and thus became nobility but there’s no indication that Quirin or Ulla were related to Edmund, which is how Varian would be in the line of succession.

It dawned on me just last night before falling asleep. I found the BIGGEST PLOTITIS EVER! HOW IN THE WORLD...did that little kid and apparently the rest of the Corona community, knew where old Gothel's cottage was? I mean...ALL. THIS. TIME. Do not tell me Rapunzel or Cass knew of it, and apparently The Cap forgot? WHAT!?

Haha right? I remember thinking that at the time. That Gothel’s old cottage was close enough to the kingdom that the townspeople just... know where it is? And who it belonged to? Though I don’t know what Cap “forgetting” has to do with it? He knew she left the cottage with the baby princess, why would he go looking for it again? What reason would he have to go there?

Just another major flaw in that episode.

They knew whose it was after the fact. It's unclear how long Gothel lived there and seems to be implied she never came back. She was never identified as the kidnapper until Rapunzel came back and Corona was probably one of many towns she visited. No one got a good look at the kidnapper and likely she evaded notice as she travelled solo.

Y'all my mom started watching tts on disney plus and she is loving it and has already watched the first half on s1, we both watched 4 episodes together today (Return of Strongbow, In Like Flynn, Great Expotations, and Under Raps) and danggg I'm loving life. I never thought she would watch it or that we would together, or that she would watch several by herself and enjoy it. THANKS DISNEY PLUS! Now add S3 please.

If there's one thing in the show that I'm extremely disappointed about, it's Rapunzel's dad. In the movie, he appears to be a loving father who longs to have his little baby back, but instead he's manipulative and an irresponsible king. It makes sense for him to not know exactly how to be a parent, because his daughter didn't come back until she was 18, but still, all of the lying and the secret keeping, and excuses. I wish they could have made him a better person.

Well, Chris Sonnenburg decided to produce what he knows, and as a father, he tried to figure out how he would have reacted under those circumstances. And it’s not like it came out of the clear blue of the canon. In the movie, Eugene was going to be executed over theft. That’s a pretty harsh punishment over a non-violent crime. So things were already in place for Frederic to be kind of an unreasonable guy.

We only saw a thin slice of his personality. We saw him with baby Rapunzel, we saw him on he 18th anniversary of her kidnapping and we saw him when she returned. That’s not a lot to go on. He was pretty much a blank slate, to be built however they saw fit.

Personally, I like how Ricky Roxburgh wrote him in “King and Queen of Hearts,” because it brought him back into being softer and more meek, while Arianna was the strong one (something that seemed to be the case in the movie).

I’m pretty sure most of the problematic behavior is a direct result of Rapunzel’s kidnapping. The harsh punishments of Lady Caine’s father and almost execution of Eugene both happened while she was missing.

But mostly, who would reproduce with Mother Gothel, and why would she suddenly decide to have a child?

With Rapunzel, it was more on she was using her due to the power of the sun drop

But Cass?

Why have a daughter? It’s clear she had absolutely no love for her, so why even go through the trouble? And how did she manage to continue the pregnancy when she ages so fast? Can’t imagine it being easy to climb to where the flower was

But, honestly, Gothel did Cass a favor when she abandoned her. She didn’t even love her and Cass got to grow up with a loving if strict father.

Rapunzel’s the one who got stuck with Gothel, living in a tower for 18 years, away from her true family.

Not saying Cass got it easy, but it could’ve been worse living with such a narcissist
