I’ve had comment moderation turned on for a long time bc of the AI bots, and I turned it off recently bc I didn’t want anyone put off from interacting.
Well. Wishing I’d kept it on. The last comment that I got better be a freakin bot bc holy shit it’s so mean. Gotten several, too, that have just been ‘contact me on discord for art of your fic’ scams.
psa, in case no one’s told you: if you get wildly mean comments from guest accounts—they’re almost definitely bots (and if they’re not and they’re real: fuck the haters, fuck the trolls, don’t feed em)
makes every real comment with a real person behind it worth so much more 😭
I had one of these weird discord art for your fic comments on something I wrote 20 years ago on ff.net that was a weird experience!
Reminder to self to be better at leaving kind and constructive comments on things I read.
i love making friends in fandom, i love playing with our toys together, i love coming up with increasingly niche aus, i love lifting strangers up, i love motivating people to create, i love watching someone get excited over an idea and immediately running with it, i love yelling in tags together, i love seeing someone gain confidence in their writing/art because people were kind to them <33
i bet girls hated it in 1902 cuz you would constantly go on dates w guys who are working on an invention to present at the world fair
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”
— The 40 Most Rage-Inducing Problems in Tech
What I especially love is this: Stolas and Moxxie are well-read, highly cultured intellectuals, yet their own creative work is far from perfect. Stolas’s ideas are quite cliché, and he has a habit of latching onto a single word and repeating it over and over. Moxxie is the type to dump a massive wall of exposition onto the reader. But the sheer joy they get from the process, from connecting and exchanging ideas—that is the very essence, the heart and soul of any fandom. Just do it your own way. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad; if you’re enjoying it, don’t stop—just create. Sooner or later, you’ll find someone who understands, supports, and builds upon your work, or perhaps takes something from it and inspires you to try something new. And that is just... delightful.
So, I have an IRL friend who loves PHM but is largely offline. Due to reasons (ADHD) I did not organise myself to watch it in cinemas and am awaiting the inevitable move to a streaming service to do so.
However, I have some lovely tumblr people I follow for a different fandom who post lots of fun PHM stuff, and the joy I feel sending her a screenshot of a silly little post is delightful.
All of this to say, sometimes you don’t need to be a fan or in the fandom to experience and share joy! Long live fandom ❤️
Karen Fukuhara posted some pictures on Instagram of her in this amazing dress and I thought to myself, what if Glimmer... but the dress is magic?
Shamelessly posting some detail shots because I feel like it's hard to make out
i love fanfiction because unlike original work the plot and characters are all plotted and characterised for you to use so its a really good solution for those “i want to write but i dont know what to write” moods it lets you focus soley on the craft and its wonderful
chatgpt is a threat to the symbiotic relationship between fanfic writers and their betas. we are losing our traditions. eradicate the soulless machine and ask your friend who has a full time job and 3 kids to annotate your omegaverse fanfiction like any other responsible adult.
rare vent art from a few months ago
I feel this!!! Also love how you muted the color along the way, I think it makes it that much more impactful!
This is the thing!

Spambot Comments on AO3
As spam continues to be a problem on AO3, here's an update on the types of spambot comments you may see, what we're doing to combat them, and how you can help! Read more at https://otw-news.org/mr42w8j9
As of June 2026, bots are also leaving guest spam comments that are:
suicide baiting (often machine translated into other languages)
asking you to mail them your work with a promise of payment
As always, please be cautious if something in the comments seems untrue or strange, and follow internet safety best practices.
If you're not sure if something is a spambot comment, you're welcome to contact Policy & Abuse for assistance. Refer to the original post for more information!
There’s an episode of Sesame Street (on Netflix! you can watch it easily!) where Elmo attends a toy-swap, where you offer up old toys you don’t play with anymore and receive someone else’s toys that are new to you. Cute!
But Elmo, after cheerfully surrendering his old toys, sees that the children who swapped toys with him are playing with his toys “wrong”! They’re imagining entirely different make believe scenarios! They’re pretending the football is a dinosaur egg instead of a rocket ship! Aaahhhhh!!!! And this is so distressing to poor Elmo that he does the unthinkable: He does swapsies-backsies and takes all his toys back!
This being Sesame Street, he learns that you can’t control how other people play pretend, but you can join in if you want to! And if you don’t want to, that’s ok, you can just play pretend your own way by yourself or with someone else who wants to play that way too. You can still be friends with people who play pretend differently than you (and aren’t being mean/harmful/etc, do not bad-faith-read this 🤨).
Anyway this is a post about fandom.
