46-MAIN Development project- Gantt Chart

The chart is divided by color of each corresponding month. And the blue color is centered in post-production and retouches.

It has their own completeness status:

And it changes its color depending of the porcentage of the task done.

I was ver happy to find this chart thanks to

I had to modify it a little, changing the dates individually, as it was in 2025, and putting the tasks in the chart.

How I decided how to organize for such a big task like this one?

45-MAIN Development project- Presentation Creation

Here I use Canvas to create the presentation as it has a lot of helpful design to create an interesting presentation. To make the style of the presentation I choose to look for the color green. As my work has a bunch of flowers, watercolor paper and plants that is the vibe I wanted to send in the presentation a cozy atmosphere.

Since in the class they said they like when there is not a lot of changes between slides there was only two main variations in the diapositives. This one for special moment in the presentation to center in some points.

Normally in the presentation I use this format of style to explain why the photos or pictures that I put in the special slides.

In the class they explain that a lot of text is not liked, I think the same that's why I put in every diapositives photos to complement the information given.

I choose sans-serifs letters in the main body to better legibility, and Even in the main letter I choose a chunkier letter instead of a serif letter to create a cozier feel.

44-MAIN Development project- Final style

Although the making of the stylized art of magic above by Raashid Ifill is made normally with the normal tree branch, and early like it styles as it is stylized, but in a combination of the previous two styles that I want to do from Ghibli and glossiness of It takes two.

43-MAIN Development project- Learning Speedtree! Using the birch tree as test subject part 2

Finally, there is the process of making the final tree, here in the trunk of the tree first I centered in having some variations on the branches wideness, normally they are all skinny, but there are some more chunky by the rest.

To put more variation, I decided to put two set of branches in Speedtree, here I was motivated to do my own thing and experiment as I was already more acustom to Speedtree, the only problem is that if I had to do more plants on the future, I will not do two branches for variations and instead I will just modify their thickness by hand, this is because it make me generate a bunch more sets of nodes that otherwise I wouldn't had to.

I follow the same structure, making sure that the branches are always in airs and at least dividing themselves in the point.

Here the final look of the birch with the branches that we did previously, like one can see, there was needed a bunch of branches nodes, the number of which would have been lower if I haven't divided the branches at the start.

The form of the canopy I made it by doing like an oval kind of shape

I was following this shape like tear drop

I am overall happy with my tree, the only problem that I think of it is that it is not as stylized as it could be, I haven't made the materials, but I think for this tree as a background foliage that I will not do normal maps for the leaves.

I am happy to say that I learned a lot of how to use speedtree and its node, forces, and modifiers and I am more prepared to do the main flowers now.

Also, there is some trees that has the shape of the leaves different when stylized, like this tutorial

42-MAIN Development project- Learning Speedtree! Using the birch tree as test subject part 2

So finally, the Speedtree journey begins! I was following this tutorial of the previously mention Colin Valek (Valek, 2023) as I really like his art and it is focus in already putting the foliage in videogames, so it is already optimized.

And the first part of the course is to do the branches of the tree, I got confuse first believing that the branch was the trunk first, but Later I understand that here you mostly want a flat view of the branch for later when you have the real truck that it will be not waist so much geometry into making a bunch of leaves.

Like I previously investigated in the previous example, birch trees mostly follow pair, that being in their leaves and branches, normally their points also ending in pairs.

The leaf process I make it in blender, for reference I wanted to follow the example of Coraline LyuPro

I like how round the leaves are, and even if they are not the same (as my leaves are more squeezed, it looks beautiful in the Ghibli style, like a softer look

Still, I didn't knew how to start stylizing the plant, so like the video I started by copying one leaf from a real birch, and then I make it more and more stylized without many little spikes and make the spikes more round.

After that I make a soft curvature and send it to the program

After finishing the branch by render it, it was time for the trunk and make the real tree.

41-MAIN Development project- Learning Speedtree! Using the birch tree as test subject

So, like previously stated, the flowers of my project, the foliage, will be the main focus of this project, so I decided to as my main practice for this module instead of starting the blockout and main feel of the scene in Unreal that, as my learning opportunity I needed to learn how to use Speedtree and thus being more prepared to make all the plants for the project.

Now why the Birch?

Well because of two reasons, one the program is called Speedtree, meaning it is more prepared to do trees over all the other foliage, so the introduction of the program will be not so confusing.

Another thing is that it will be easier to fail the first ever thing I make in Speedtree, so when I was thinking of doing a flower it will be too much compromise to do two times one of the important assets. So, I need an asset that also if doing something off it will be still visible okay for putting in the environment. and the birch fits perfectly.

Like you can see here, the birch is in the background so it is not one f the most closest plants of all, perfect for use it as a practice.

After that, I investigated more the birch before doing it and I made interesting discoveries.

First of all the birch is a very skinny tree, not to mention the branches of this tree, they are even skinnier, so for making the tree I must control myself into doing a very chunky tree, it also doesn't have a lot of very visible roots.

The most interesting part is seeing how its leaf and branches are created.

Like you can see in this ilustration, the fruit of the birch is simetrical, making so the leaf is always coming on pairs, but not only that.

The branches of the tree are also divided normally in two like one can see easily in the example of the right, with that being said and the investigation almost complete I decided to start doing the Birch tree in Speedtree.

40-MAIN Development project- Elements dissemination- Textures

This is also a point that I wanted greatly to search as I want to do these textures in Substance designer.

Overall, with these textures (If I dont do the closeup, will be enough to finish the textures (that aren't plants, not counting the floor) for the 3D project.

My main inspirations for the textures are already said in previous blogs, the only thing to add here is the reference from Tiny Glade, they don't have a lot of their process out for the public at least not so explained, but I find one thing they did that was very intriguing to me

In my previous project I did some windows, and I had the same problem that they felt flat, and I really like the way they solve the problem.

Another great reference for doing the textures is the incredible explanation of (Adobe Substance 3D, 2024)

They really give an in dept analysis of their process for making a bunch of stylized textures, really helpful for my project

There are another like 10 things to do sadly, at least there are simple objects, the complicated part will me making the two that I want to try to put them in houdini.

I dont want to put a lot of detail however in the house as my main focus I want to have is the flowers but, if I have to choose where to put more details it will be in this close up

From way back this item will not be seen, and they will be time-consuming, but it will do a nice close up if I do in fact have time

It took a while to find, as a lot of pf the poppy photos take the picture when the part of the center of the flower is not open in that yellow color, but it fits perfectly even being a four-petal flower.

From the roses we have different tones of roses form yellow, orange and pink, So the final pink for the rose to make the color variation more natural is to do the Lady of Shalott type of flower, as the color varies between yellow and pink so the changes between each rose would not seem out of place.

probably the bluest one isn't a lavender but a Delphinus

But I will take this as an opportunity of also make the lavender into the main plant as the shape of the flower isn't too different and it could save time instead of making two different set of flowers.

This was one of the closest flowers to the camera so I must be really precise but thankfully the button of the flower is super distinct so it was easy to research that this flower was the Gladiolus, more specifically one with a more yellow center like the one in the middle.

At first, I thought it was another gladiolus as the buttons of the flowers feel pointy again and it seems they grew multiple flowers together horizontally, but in a closer examination I realize my mistake. First, the leave of this flower is completely different, being more fat, meanwhile the leave of the gladiolus is really skinny. But the dead giveaway that this flower was a canna lily and nothing related to a gladiolus is, that the canna lily doesn't have flowers growing in all its branch, only it has more at the top, unlike the gladiolus that is almost all covered in flowers.

This was a very distinguishable flower, so much so I manage to get the exact type of snapdragon this illustration belongs to.

Nothing much to add here, it was also easy to identify this one

Here it could be an 8 and a half as I am planning to use the same roses from the normal roses and hopefully the same ivy plant could work here, of course reemplacing the leaf of the ivy for a rose one

Nothing much to search here I mean, it was in fact a normal ivy so I didn't have to search more to see it was only that.

Same with the birch in the background, although I already did full research on how to do a birch but that will be explain in blog 41.

As one of, if not the main focus on my project centers on the flowers, I really wanted to dedicate a lot of research in making sure I know which are the flowers appearing in the illustration, and which ones could maybe repeat or look similar enough to one another than the only different thing that I can make is only the changing of its colors.

So, I investigated and this is the photo of the conclusion

I put the name of the species of flowers everywhere I could see one as so is easier for myself to determine which flower I already investigated, for the full list here it is:

Next blog, I will put the pictures and the comparisons in look between each one, as a Pinterest board was created to store photos of this different flowers. (And tree)

36-MAIN Development project- Foliage artist research

While more or less having an idea of the style and what I want, I started to search for more references, this time for the fowers.

The artist that I first look at for this that he as well had a lot of foliage art but centered to doing flowers as that is my main objective was

Colin Valek, his work specially from Ghost of Tsushima really marvel me and he even has a full video of how to do foliage for videogames, that later I will talk about, but not even that, he has a personal work for Memory project, a Final Fantasy fanproyect in which he did the foliage i a more stylized way that could help me in the making of the plants

The other artist that I was really mesmerized by its Ghibli approach was Coraline Lyu.

35-MAIN Development project- Material search

With that being said, I investigated more about materials of Immortal Fenix Rising art style and I arrive to this one

Is for the same course as before and it uses from reference the grass of Vincent Dérozier , but here this video it doesn't only show how they did the grass texture, but also that in can change and how to make it so it bleds with the floor add rocks and flowers.

Another one from the same group tat seems it will be really usefull to me is this one.

As I will have a roof covered with moss and ivy, this roof material seems to be exactly what I will need to start making the moss.

34-MAIN Development project- Style decision part 34

Finalizing my admiration for Vincent Dérozier I will talk about another of his videos that was really inspiring to me at least technically when doing the textures on Substance designer and that is his work with Assasin's Odessey texture that was the work he previously works before Immortal Fenix Rising and a video of his talking how he did the textures for that game.

I love the fact that contrary to the Inmortal Fenix Rising, Assasin's Odessey centers a lot f their art in the glossines

As they use it as a way to add detail in the scene that otherwise it would be difficult to see

33-MAIN Development project- Style decision part 3

I still have to find references for the art style, and I became in love by all the detail explanation of Vincent Dérozier of the art in Immortal Fenix Rising (Dérozier, V., Tréhet, O., Couture, C., Gosselin, C., Alexis, D., Lemieux, L. and Dansereau, T., 2021)

Its amazing how they describe all their stylization progres and how they make it to look painterly, from the explanation of the segments of the process they use to create the stylized textures in Substance designer

To also how their process with plants, meshes and overall feel of the game was created, it will be such a great help in the making of this project.

And for my curiosity of maybe making the project a little bit more realistiv or how it could be, they also have comparisons with realistic art they have done before as the group is the same one that design Assasin's Creed Odyssey I like it lot mecause you can see that theyr use almost the same process to make the plants here than in Assasin's Creed Odyssey, at least in the branches of the tree, what they change is the overall color, and making less detail the leaf.

This was an incredible discovery for me as I found the person responsible for the vegetation in the game Immortal Fenix Rising that being Caroline Couture. But I will talk about that later as it is such an amazing topic.

32-MAIN Development project- Style decision part 2

So, I was undecided still about the look of the game maybe to plastic. I search for more references of style and decided to look this time to more stylized sources, this is where the research from previous concept artists were handy. As my previous frustration of finding cool concept art only to realized that it was already done by another person in 3D help me find this group in artstation which have some videos that teaches how to do more stylized environments for videogames.

And then I became (more confused in what I wanted to do for the style) But two things said in that video really make me think about the style.

One is that I became obsessed by the amazing work of Vincent Dérozier as my main reference for the textures.

And second, when they were telling about image restoration and how much to change from one image to another, they say, sometimes the picture is so great that trying to restore it will damage the outcome instead of helping it, so with that in mind and many people also saying how they loved the og art style I decided that if I do some changes will be to add a little bit pf roughness to the texture like in it takes two but keeping the art style alive.

31-MAIN Development project- Style decision part 1

So here first I wanted to dissect what I was going to do first, and how to do it, the first problem I arrive with is the style I was going to use for this specific project. I loved the style of the artwork, but I wanted to make it a little bit more realistic but without losing the characteristic style of studio Ghibli.

I as in class and one of the styles proposed is semirealistic like the style of It takes two.

The style seems a little bit painterly, but is you look closer to de textures that I look by searching to the webpage recompilation of (IAMAG INC., 2021)

They have metalness and they have roughness in their textures, the main difference is that everything seems a little bit clean, without a lot of trash\dirt around

I think this style could be very explain in this photo:

It has a very stylize feel but the look and feel of the materials seems real still, thanks that they don't escape to use the roughness and metals to ad detail, however

I think for the plants I will use less the roughness map as it makes it look more like a plastic feeling

30-MAIN Development project- Final 8 concept art to choose

Here I will explain why of my decisions of why I choose this final eight, but overall, they have thing previously said before about textures, plants, and modular pieces, and, most importantly, that I feel motivate to make them.

ArtStation - Project LAX - Real-time Look Dev & Concepts

this one has the look of being like a city, there is like a lookdev but the style of the concept art is different from the lookdev so there is room for making a new version and the combination of plants with the building amazing, there is also a lot of grunch from the textures that I really like and a lot of decals

Piotr Krynski - Le Chlanko Cafe

I really like this work of Piotr Krynski, it has the buildings that I can do modular, and the buildings have a lot of texture that I could do with the shaders, the only problem is that the plants are minimal, and it will be harder to imagine the buildings surrounding this area.

ArtStation - European Town, Entrance to the Town Street

This one I like it a lot because even so it seems that there is a lot of different buildings, they look similar so it can be made modular. It has the same problem to that my previous medieval concept art, as I didn't know if for other people it will seem too seen to do a medieval piece.

Overall, those pieces where the most different, here I explore more different kinds of concept art centered in just one building and its surroundings

Here the texture and the house seems interesting,a nd there is a decendt quantity of plants, more mysterious looking feeling that could broaden the spectrum to work in scary games maybe.

This would have being the same concept art than before but maybe the house being a real victorina house with more history, so I choose the The Big Blue House in New Jersey.

This concept art of a Bar looks cute, but maybe a little bit complicated to do modular

Here I really like the landscape surounding the bouilding that the house was in a cliff and a path to go to the house, it also has a lot of plants so it is a real nice concept art.

But finally, I put all the art that I like with also this image from the studio Ghibli movie, KiKi's delivery service, and I did 4 surveys to my friends and family members about which art they like more, and over all they always choose different imagines, but, the one that all the groups like unanimously were this illustration.
