Happy Kwanzaa!!!! Today is the second day in which we celebrate Kujichagulia (koo-jee-cha-goo-lee-ah), which means Self-Determination in Swahili. On this day we choose to define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and stand up/speak for ourselves. I have chosen to use my gifts to create poetry and short stories. My blog will launch at the end of Kwanzaa, with my Kujichahulia in full supply. I have also made open mics/poetry slams/story telling apart of my weekly routine again. By placing strong, positive, goal oriented, passionate, and educated Black Women and Men in my circle, my confidence in Success in Self has grown exponentially. I am a writer. I am a writer. Just finished reading this book in a 3.5 hour sitting. It was very good and fast-paced, even though the topic is hard to read about (child sexual abuse regarding pre-pubescent girls). I applaud Kimberly Lawson Roby for tackling such a difficult subject and expressing the struggles so well. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual abuse, molestation, or rape, regardless of the age from which it started, I encourage you to read this fictional depiction. I hope it helps you or your loved one understand these actions are not right nor is it his/her fault.
