Turned To Dust

The day I realized how alone I really was, and had to figure out what independence really was.

5 days ago the love of my life -- at least who I thought was the love of my life left me. I was devastated not only because for the past year and a half I have built my whole life around him, we had it all, the house, two little dogs which completed our cute little manageable family, we went on romantic vacations together two summers in a row and we are both in college build a career -- building a life. It was all I could have ever dreamt for. I loved him, he loved me (at least that was what I was under the impression of), he was my best friend and we had created numerous memories together that I will cherish for the rest of my life. It is still hard to wrap my head around the fact that its over, the first two days it felt like the whole world was crashing down upon me. What did I do to deserve this? The answer is nothing. I literally did nothing wrong, we simply are not compatible. This is the hardest truth to swallow because I have let myself get so incredibly comfortable with this man, thinking that we would be forever. I fell in love with the idea of being i love, and not necessarily the person I was with. That thought still fucks me up greatly. Whenever I had been in a relationship before I was always blasted on drugs, but sense being in recovery for the past two years, and experiencing what a real -- sober relationship is, I have never felt a deeper connection of love and trust with a human being, and it was all ripped away within seconds. Today I am realizing that I have never actually been independant in my life yet, always depending on a boyfriend for my emotional well being. Although this relationship was the healthiest and most real I have ever experienced I was still incredibly co-dependant on it to validate my feelings and make me feel worthy as a person. I was so sure that I was comfortable in my own skin but in reality I was only okay with myself as long as I knew I had someone to come home to after my day and talk about what happened and be held and told that I was worth it. Now my real self discovery journey to self love begins, I have to learn how to love myself enough to KNOW that I am worth it, think about my day to myself without anyone else’s validation -- and pull up my girl panties and accept that nobody is going to hold me at this point of my life and I have to experience some loneliness, and be okay with it. I learned so much about how to have a healthy relationship and I learned so much about myself and I grew so much with him... But there is so much more for me to learn before I am ready for the relationship that i thought I had. I will forever love him and cherish our memories and it hurts so much right now and I feel like I can’t go on without him. I keep hoping that once I grow and learn how to be more indepedant down the road we will meet again and everything will go back to the way it was supposed to be. It sure feels like we were soulmates that simply just met in the wrong part of our lives and its a really fucking sad tragedy. I can’t sleep or eat and I am uncomortably depressed and can’t ever imagine being with anyone but him. As I hate to say this it will pass and this is just a part of my life that I will learn from. I keep asking myself why I wasn’t good enough but the truth is I wasn’t ready for the love that we had. I was immature and I allowed my resentments to get in the way of my love, compassion and understand to the person I love the most. I don’t know how but I want to fix that and become a better person. The only way I can do this is learning how to do life by myself and learn to love myself enough to be okay when someone isn’t happy being with me because thats just reality and not every human being is compatible with each other, no matter how much I wish I was with him... and only him.

I was feeling sad about my breakup. Then I realized that I was happier eating chips and salsa, drinking huckleberry beer and watching Youtube videos all by myself than I had been with him for a long time. Sad, but true.
