Portraits, 2016 | by Toby Harvard
Heidi Cruz’s face must have felt like one of the bricks in Super Mario Brothers.
Synopsis
My film aims to dissect the meaning of laughter. Laughter is seen as a light-hearted, non-serious action which requires little thought. Yet, when look closer, laughter is a complex activity. Whenever we try to look closer at humor and laughter, the comedy is lost. I believe this is fascinating. I almost feel as though our bodies are hiding something from us if we cannot understand why something makes us laugh.Â
The structure is important to one’s own understanding of humor. There are many humor theories and I thought these theories were important to share but also refute. The constant sharing of theory and explanation of why that theory does not hold up, is important to my end conclusion-there is not one way of defining humor. We cannot examine it closely enough to really understand its impact.Â
Through this structure I explain the theories and opposition of the theories narration, image and video. I believe seeing is an important element in deconstructing a complex topic. Having the ability to see an example of a theory which can be wordy and complex can confuse the audience. Having visuals as a guide is an important for aduience understanding and engagement to the content.Â
I hope my audience walks away from this film understanding that humor and laughter is more of a complex concept than originally thought. It is something that is essential and unique to human beings, yet its importance and complexity are equally unrecognized. I believe the topic is important to everyone because everyone laughs, yet laughter is almost an unconscious process like our heartbeat that we take it for granted and do not put in the time to fully appreciate its value.Â

Please reblog this to boost on the tags! Too many gender critical people bash trans kids who do zero wrong!
Fancy that, it’s almost as if we’re reasonable human beings who just need to take a leak!
Seriously, though, I am glad to have this published evidence to present in the face of transphobic fearmongering.
The decision caps a public campaign asking for the change and months of deliberation by the Treasury.
Prince is an artist, a genius, and a true visionary, and he will be sorely missed.

De-Humorize is a documentary film which aims to decode the mystery that is humor through discussing and refuting theories and ultimately arriving to one conclusion of inconclusivity.Â
I have crafted the entire documentary around this idea that we cannot define humor. I am taking the viewer through a series of theories that attempt to explain humor, yet negate each one to eventually show that the concept is nearly undefinable and that trying to define it could hurt the magic or the humor itself.Â
Here is a rough sketch of the beginning of the documentary, DE-defining Humor, tale which attempts to define humor through theory, yet through this attempt further ruins humor and leaves it in its ever-amorphous state.Â
