when stylegate happens obviously wendy is not permitted to write the vice article covering it because there is a CONFLICT OF INTEREST here but of course she can’t help herself and writes a freelance pseudonymous article with her own research (everyone can tell it’s her). okay i talked about this earlier but i wanted to repeat it again w more refined thoughts. as someone who likes south park, i get the ick from how so much video essays about south park are made by White People, especially the ones who extensively laud it for something progressive. i can get some points, that south park has some decent representation, but what irks me the most about it is that it's often white people, especially grown white men, who dictate what is good representation, and they do it a LOT. a lot of sp video essays are framed that way, that south park is a God for doing xyz, and it just comes off as super performative and savior complex-y.

it really irritates me how many white people want to claim south park as some progressive movement— i can admit that the political metaphors and messaging they use is sometimes pretty smart, but claiming it is a movement is just too much. it's like white people get off to this idea that this show made of predominantly white people can do Hashtag So Much for our society.

i know there's a good amount of ppl who dislike sp and i won't shame ppl for that. as a poc i do enjoy south park's humor from time to time, although i admit it's not perfect. i just wished people stopped lauding it as like some sort of second coming of christ, like white people think they get the job done by watching south park which is. erm. touch grass.
