“It’s like a [scene from a] horror movie in there.” — That’s what Deputy Luke Winger told Lane County News’ Chris O’Dell after the shocking events on Ash Tree Lane last Tuesday night. Police arrived at 8:13pm to find a home destroyed, two children, aged six and one, barricaded in their own room, and their mother, (name withheld,) dead in the living room.

The incident was first reported at 4:45pm on Tuesday, when a 911 call was made by (name withheld,) the older of the two children. In a move that has raised eyebrows within the surrounding community, this call, and two calls made afterwards by (name withheld,) were initially ignored, which the operator attributed to numerous false calls made previously over the past several months by Mrs. (name withheld). Police arrived on the scene at 7:13pm to find a grisly scene, Mrs. (name withheld) non-responsive in the family’s living room, the door to her sons’ room covered in scratches she is believed to have made in an attempt to force entry.

While the cause of death is still under investigation, police observed an unknown substance caked around the mother’s mouth and beneath her nails, carrying an acrid smell. (Name withheld) also showed signs of rash or abrasion on her arms, neck, and face, but no other apparent life threatening injuries. No signs of forced entry to the home were found on first investigation.

Police are yet to release any further information from (name withheld). The father (name withheld), is unaccounted for. While police have not confirmed this case is being treated as a homicide, Mrs. (name withheld)’s previous, supposedly unfounded, calls to 911 about suspicious persons peering into the home’s windows and skulking around at night, have raised many questions. Mrs. (name withheld) also made at least one call where she appeared to be very agitated, stating that she was certain one of her children had been ‘replaced.’

I didn’t remember the smell until a few years ago when we were out walking by the woods. It was the first of November. We were picking blackberries and some of the juice got beneath my nails. They were overripe, it smelled acrid and sour.

I never saw the word slop used except to refer to gross food (usually food produced to feed a lot of people very cheaply with little regard for flavor or nutrition, like in schools and prisons) and now it's literally everywhere and frankly, I find that very suspicious considering the combination of rising antisemitism, the spread of alt-right and far right terms through social media, and the existence of the word "goy-slop." I think we could all do to be more critical about the language that we use and we should really be asking ourselves where popular slang is actually coming from, who started saying those words in the first place and why.

And honestly, it would be considerably less suspicious if it was JUST the word slop but it's not. It's usually "[word]-slop" like het-slop or AI-slop and I cannot stress enough that that has very clear and blatant origins in antisemitic conspiracies about Jews poisoning the world. That may not be your intention when you use terms like that, but there is a reason why antisemites and other bigots try so hard to normalize their language and memes, because that helps them blend in and normalize their beliefs.
