Attilus Architects Inc wanted to create a cottage that enhanced the natural landscape through integrating nature into the home. I think they have done an amazing job! Cliff House is perched upon a rock outcropping looking over a beautiful lake. Energy efficiency was a key principal in the design of this off-grid home. The house utilizes solar massing techniques to help retain energy and has many operable windows to allow adequate ventilation. Green roofs help to keep temperatures moderate in the summer and heavy glazing as well as high performance insulation keep things warm and cozy in those winter months. The house is primarily heated through a radiant floor heating system which gets its hot water from a solar hot water collection system. In addition, The electricity used in the home harnessed through photovoltaic panels! This beautiful home shows that you can sustainability can truly be beautiful.

Split View Mountain House is a small vacation residence near the village of Geilo, Norway. Built for a growing family of four, the home is built to serve as a functional ski-in, ski-out retreat. The house features broad use of slatted timber throughout the construction. The living area of the home sits atop a concrete section designed for the removal of ski equipment  after a long day! Interesting features, like the adjacent living rooms each with its own fireplace, make this residence very unique.

Dehidral house is home to a young family in downtown Denver, Colorado. This house has some truly beautiful industrial-like features. I particularly like the concrete facade at the fear of the home and its corner window. The garage also sports an industrial look with exposed beams, cast concrete walls, and metal roof. The owners of this home look to be avid bicyclists and this hobby seems to be supported by this highly functional garage.

Casa Pezo, designed by Chilean architects Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, is one of twelve unique homes to be built upon one property in Matarraña, Spain. The over-arching project is called Solo Homes. Each home will be designed by a different, innovative architect. Casa Pezo features beautifully board-formed cast concrete construction and crisp symmetry. The broad living area of the home is perched upon a smaller concrete block anchored to the ground. The entranceway is reminiscent of a WWII bunker. The cantilevered living space above has a pool at its center, with rooms flanking each side. The home also features foldable windows; allowing each room to serve as a terrace. The effect of the minimalist design and perfect symmetry is simply stunning.

Hideg House is situated on the former site of a stone quarry in Kozeg, Hungary. The home is perched about 10 meters above the roadway in order to take advantage of natural light and surrounding views. Sustaining a minimal ecological footprint was also key in this design. The sleek, white walls of the interior are a stark contrast to the rough appearance of the slotted wooden exterior. While the exterior materials are used to help the structure blend with its surroundings, A simple white interior was chosen in order to amplify colors naturally present in the landscape. Photography on this project is also on point!

A stunning wood fired sauna located on the Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden. Some day I hope to craft my own wood fired sauna in a remote location such as this.

This structure was originally a small home in the small town of Bolzano, Italy. The building has now been turned into a showroom for Italian Designer Haidacher. I love the minimalist wooden island and the burnished walls, floor, and ceilings!

DeForest Arhcitects have designed this absolutely stunning waterfront home in Seattle. The owners desired a strong connection between indoor and outdoor space as well as the ability to easily take in the views of Mount Rainier. Judging from the photos, this house seems to be located on the west shore of Lake Washington. Stunning home and location!

This a great example of a minimalist farm house located in the rural town of Berrocal, Spain. The aim was to have a small home which fit in with the natural landscape... I think this structure more than meets that goal!
