Dick, eight years old, makes silly little matching friendship bracelets for himself and Bruce. It’s basically just blue and black braided thread with a couple beads at the end where it’s tied together.

Bruce adores it. He never takes it off. Ever.

When Dick is 25, he’s helping Clark bring Bruce to the medbay in the Watchtower after a mission gone wrong. Bruce is mostly fine, but they’re going to get him hooked up to an IV for fluids until he wakes up, and at the very least, he has to stay overnight for observation.

They’re taking off the left gauntlet of the batsuit, and Dick pauses. Because Bruce is still wearing the little friendship bracelet Dick made for him over 15 years ago. The thread is fraying and the colors are a little faded, but it’s undeniably the same friendship bracelet.

Dick stays at Bruce’s side the whole night, holding his hand.
