You looked down at your phone and smiled at the text you had just received from Derek.
Hurry home beautiful, I’m waiting 😉
You sighed looking up at the ridiculously long line in front of you and replied to him.
I’ll hurry every chance I get, but don’t expect me anytime soon. You would not believe this line.
The three little dots appeared on the screen immediately.
But baby I need you to come home now. I have a surprise for you.
You saw his message and a mischievous smile made its way onto your face.
Oh, do you? What is it?
He replied quickly. I don’t want to give anything away, but it involves you and me, and some clothes coming off.
You couldn’t help the small laugh that came out. You looked up from your phone but everyone else seemed to be wrapped up in their own problems, except for the tall man standing behind you with light brown hair, an average looking face, and a skinny athletic looking build.
When you had glanced around he caught your eye and gave you a polite smile. “I’m guessing whatever you were talking about was funny?” He asked in a scratchy monotone voice.
You turned your body to face him not wanting to be rude. “Yeah, sorry about that, I was just talking to my boyfriend. He just said something that took me by surprise.”
“Ah, that makes sense. It’s cool that you have a boyfriend. I used to date a lot too, but I don’t anymore. Whenever things got serious I would always pull away. I guess you could say I’m afraid of commitment. So pretty much every relationship I’ve ever had has failed.” He said frowning a little before pasting a smile onto to his face.
His confession took you aback a little, but you recovered and pasted a smile on your own face as you tried to get a sense of him. He was carefully closed off, and oddly didn’t fidget, but you shrugged it off. You guessed that it made sense, considering the subject of the conversation. Clearly the man had his heart broken once or twice, and because of his fear of commitment was uncomfortable with the conversation. There was still something about him though, something that made you feel uneasy. However, you tried your best to shake it off and continue with the conversation.
“It’s okay to be afraid, were all afraid of something, right? Anyways, what do you do for a living? “You asked looking up at him expectantly.
He didn’t answer for a minute. He just stared at you unmoving. You felt that same uneasy feeling from before settle on your shoulders, as you shifted back and forth on your feet waiting for his response. Your eyes began to wander around the room as time clicked by and he didn’t respond. You had finally had enough and decided to turn back around, until he spoke up again.

Your eyes began to wander around the room as time clicked by and he didn’t respond. You had finally had enough and decided to turn back around, until he spoke up again.
“What are you afraid of?”
You looked into his cold blue eyes and felt a shiver of fear roll down your spine. There was something definitely wrong this guy. You debated over whether or not you should take him in while you answered his question.
“Uh I guess my biggest fear is being buried alive. I know it’s not a rational fear, but I’m very claustrophobic. Tight spaces make me feel like I’m being suffocated, so being buried alive would probably be my worst nightmare.” You said shrugging your shoulders like it was no big deal, even though on the inside you felt your terror grow just thinking about it.
His face remained carefully blank as he stared at you throughout your explanation. It was freaking you out, but before you could do anything someone tapped you on the shoulder. It made you jump a little, but then you realized that it was your turn in line, so you moved up and began putting your groceries on the conveyor belt so the cashier could check you out. When you had finished, you glanced back at the man. He was still watching you with his unnerving blue eyes.
He caught your eye and winked, his small mouth curving up on one side in a twisted grin. You shook your head and walked as fast as you could out of the store. All thoughts of questioning him had completely slipped your mind as you made your quick escape towards your car.
Once you reached your it you stashed all the groceries in the trunk, and jumped into the driver’s seat locking the door behind you. When you heard the click of the door locking, you sighed with relief. When your heartbeat had returned to normal you pulled out your phone that was buzzing in your pocket. A few text messages from Derek lit up your phone screen. Some of them talked about the surprise he had promised, but the last one was asking if you were okay.
You sent him a quick text back saying your fine and that you were on your way home. His reply was as expected, a flirty remark and a wink emoji. You laughed reading it and put your phone back in your purse. The trace amounts of fear that had clung to you disappeared, you smiled and began singing as you made your way home.
A few days later…
“Alright team gather around. I have a new case and it’s a doozy. Local police have had three different murders within the same fifty-mile radius.” Penelope said walking into the room and turning on her screens that displayed all the information on the victims.
You looked down at your tablet to get a closer look at the case. You scrunched your eyebrows in concentration as she read off the reports on each of the victims.
“First victim, Roxy Jones, age 25. The report says that she was killed by being drown. They found water in her lungs as well as trace amounts of narcotics. Which fits with what law enforcement said. They found her face down in the middle of a lake with bruises all along her arms, neck, and shoulders. She was reported missing about a month ago, which is when the time of death was. Her body however, wasn’t found until three weeks ago.
The second victim, Veronica Harris, age 30. She died by trauma to the head and internal bleeding. The police found her at the bottom of a ten-story building. At first, they assumed suicide, but there was no evidence confirming this. No signs of depression, good job, lots of friends. Now they believe it was murder a few of the bruises and cuts were they found on her were done before she died. There aren’t any leads as to who could have done this to her, but they are pretty set on murder. She was found a week after Roxy, a few blocks away from the lake.
The third victim, Jane Adams, age 27, was a little more confusing. They found her in an abandoned building. She had burn marks and bruises all over her body which meant that she had been held captive, and beaten just like the other victims. Per the report, the cause of death was smoke inhalation. Her body was still intact, except for her face which is why she hasn’t been identified yet. The local police don’t know what to make of it.”
You shook your head and tried to get a general idea about the guy, but what Penelope was telling you wasn’t making any sense. “How do the police know that the cases are related?” You asked thinking for sure there was no way the same unsub killed all three of these victims. They were all different races and ages. They had different friends and even more different lifestyles.
Roxy was a preschool teacher, and from what you could see a social recluse. Veronica was a lawyer with a ton of friends and a higher standard of living. On the other side of the spectrum was Jane, a prostitute working the streets and living with her friend in a one bedroom apartment.
“I’m glad you asked my lovely friend. Besides the fact that all the bodies were dumped close together, each victim had the same symbol carved into their back.” She said pointing at the screen and pulling up the different pictures where a strange looking mark, was carved into all three of women’s backs.
You looked down at the symbol but it didn’t look like anything you had ever seen before. So, you did what you were sure everyone else was doing, and looked at Spencer.
He looked up from his tablet with scrunched eyebrows and a frown. When he finally noticed that everyone was staring, he paused and shook his head with a mixture of confusion, anger, and sadness.
“Sorry guys. I’ve never seen anything like this before. I mean it looks like it can be just about anything. The circle is very generic, but this thing in the middle just looks like a bunch of random lines. Plus, there’s the fact that the symbol isn’t very clean, the way the unsub carved this into their skin looks like it was done with a jagged knife, like maybe a butcher’s knife. With a knife like that, it would be hard to cut through the skin, so the unsub would need to press down hard, which also explains why the symbol is engraved on them so deeply.
You listened and glanced back down at your tablet again shaking your head.
Once Penelope finished up going over the files, you all talked about his possible motivations and whether the women’s paths could have crossed. By the end of the meeting your working profile was that the unsub was a caucasian male between the ages of 25-35. He would also have to have job that would allow him to be gone for periods of time, and he would have to have little to no family or friends. You had also determined that the unsub would have to be adequate in communication, and his look would need to be average to lure the women away from wherever he abducted them from.
It wasn’t a lot to go on, but it was a start. Hotch gave out assignments like always, splitting you into pairs. You and Derek were off to go and visit the latest crime scene, while everyone else headed to the morgue or the local police station to talk with the officers on the case, and the families of the three victims.
You headed out of the room hand in hand with Derek. He smiled at the rest of the team as they left and tugged you towards his desk.
You scrunched your eyebrows and gave him a confused look. “What are you doing babe, we have work to do?” You asked as he let go of your hand and began digging through his desk drawers for something.
“I know, I just need to get something before we head out.” He said looking over his shoulder at you with a smile and a wink.
You grinned back at him and watched as he turned back to the desk to continue looking. You let your eyes wander over him admiringly. Which made your mind begin to stray to last night, and the way he had felt on top of you when you spent the night wrapped up in each other. You must have been lost in thought for a while because next thing you knew Derek was waving his hand in front of your face trying to get your attention.
“You alright babe, you kind of spaced out there for a minuet?” He asked with worry coloring his deep smooth voice.
You shook your head and felt your cheeks grow hot as you rested your head on his shoulder. “I’m fine. I was just thinking about last night.”
You felt his chest vibrate with laughter as he wrapped his arms around your waist pulling you closer to him. “Well” He whispered against your ear making you shiver. “When we get home, I can promise there is more of that to come.
If it was possible you felt your face flush even more while a soft moan escaped your lips. You bit your lips thinking about exactly what that meant.
“Can’t wait” You whispered back.
His chest rumbled with laughter again as he pressed light kisses against your neck. You tilted your head back giving him more access until he reached your mouth and kissed you. The sensations overtook you as your mouths crashed together again and again while the heat rose between you. Your lungs were on fire but you couldn’t stop kissing him, it was always like that with Derek, you couldn’t get enough of him. Eventually though, you needed to breath, so you tore your lips from his and gasped trying to get enough air to fill your lungs.
Once your breathing and heart rate had returned to normal, you lifted your head off his shoulder and looked up at him. “I hate to be the one to say this, but we need to get going. The team is going to want to know what we found.” You sighed.
His smile fell a little, but he quickly shook it off and nodded his head.” You’re right we don’t want Hotch to catch us again. Do we?” He asked smirking at you.
“Hey! That was one time, and it was all your fault. You couldn’t just wait a few more minutes while I finished up some paper work, could you?” You asked rolling your eyes and taking his hand dragging him towards the elevator.
“Well we wouldn’t have gotten caught if you weren’t being so loud.” He said when the elevator door opened. He took your hand and lead you into the elevator enveloping you in his arms yet again.
You squirmed out of his touch to press the button to the ground floor when you remembered that you had set your phone down on his desk. You faced him and placed a light kiss on his lips. “I’ll be right back I left my phone on your desk, someone, “ you said looking at him pointedly, ”was distracting me.” You laughed.
He rolled his eyes and grinned at you when he responded. “Go get it, I’ll wait for you.”
You shook your head. “No just go down without me, and start the car. It’s a little chilly today. I’ll be down in a minuet.”
He nodded his head in agreement and pressed the button for the ground floor. “Alright I’ll see you down there, and I promise a warm car.” He said as the door closed and he vanished from your sight.
You shook your head smiling to yourself as you made your way over to his desk and picked up your phone. You quickly scanned over it and saw that there was a missing call from Hotch, and a few texts from the rest of the team. You responded to the texts and decided to call Hotch back in the car with Derek. You reached the elevator and pushed the call button and waited patiently for the shiny silver doors to glide open.
There was a light tap on your shoulder. You froze as fear ran through your body, you knew instantly that you were in trouble. You spun as fast as you could while reaching for your gun, but they knocked it out of your hand and sent it flying across the floor. You raised your hands, ready to fight while you lifted your eyes to your attacker. Once you saw who it was however, you paused, which was a big mistake. You were only able to scream once before something hard smacked your head and everything went black.
Hey you guys. I don’t do this very often, but @alli-phan has been a good friend of mine on this site for a while now, and she needs some help getting a few followers. So if you have the time, please go check out her blog. 😊 Thank you.
