Vampires are by nature creatures of deep sensuality. Their origins in literature can be primarily traced back to Carmilla (a story where vampirism is used as a metaphor for homosexuality) and Dracula (a work that reflects the xenophobia of the later Victorian era and forbidden desire). They were literally created to be alluring in a creepy way. Hence I struggle to comprehend why thereâs people shocked by the fact that the new Nosferatu is rooted in eroticism.

"Well, itâs that time again. I mark mid-summer by the sharing of this photo on its anniversary. This photo has spent six years circulating in the internetâs many corners and in the stories of people who have both found new relationships and/or ended friendships. 2017, New York, I was invited to a track-by-track celebration of Carly Rae Jepsen's EMOTION, where each writer was assigned one song to give a presentation on. I wanted "Warm Blood" but picked too late and got "Your Type," and made a presentation on my phone on the plane, but this was the only slide, and I read a long thing about desire, and about that thin veil between realizing you like someone and realizing you LIKE someone, about falling in love with friends, about being platonically in love with friends, about treating platonic love with the same generosity and rigor as romantic love. But mostly about the bravery of Big Declarations Of Emotion. Because of the nature of the party, and the fact that this photo has circulated for years without context, I think it has led to more Big Declarations Of Emotion than anything, and I don't mind that, I suppose. I still get people, to this day, telling me they were at this event or they've seen this photo and that they were inspired to tell someone they were in love with them. It feels especially exciting to share this year, in a year where Iâve gotten to be the most excited witness to my friends and their fluorescent joys. Marriages, new houses, new kids, their bravery and openness with the world. Being an audience to that makes me bold in my capacity for love, for care. We ascend to better versions of ourselves through our love for each other, and that is romance. The best kind. The results are sometimes mixed, Iâve heard. They always are. If you told a friend you love them and things got weird, I apologize. but to be fair, I wanted Warm Blood. As I say every year, there are so many ways to fall for someone. If you are at the edge of the cliff anyway, consider taking the leap. The ground might be soft enough to hold you and whatever comes next, and if it isn't there will always be more cliffs, more edges."

even if you donât believe in god, you have to believe in narrative. things happen, one after another, world without end. just because youâre self-aware doesnât mean you can change whatâs happening. eventually someone is going to break your heart. eventually something you love is going to be taken away. and then you will fall to the floor crying. and then, however much later, it is finally happening to you: youâre falling to the floor crying thinking âi am falling to the floor cryingâ but thereâs an element of the ridiculous to it â you knew it would happen and, even worse, while youâre on the floor crying you look at the place where the wall meets the floor and you realize you didnât paint it very well and when youâre having sex with your next lover on this very floor they will also notice that you didnât paint it very well and they will think less of you for it. and then you have to hold the contradictions of sobbing uncontrollably and wondering about grammar in your head at the same time.

How am i alive dude she just asked me on a museum library date and when i said i love museums and libraries she said she can tell cause i âpractically lit upâ when we went to a library together. And she said it was cute . Ok like hello what hello
but the way you're on your own, kid goes from 'you have always been alone' and running through all the types of loneliness in life and then at the end the shifting realization that 'you can face this' because of the fact that you've gotten this far on you're own because of/in spite of that
i couldnât have found a normal artist to enjoy it just had to be this freak
this tracklist has me thinking so many thoughts you guys.
they broke up a fortnight into tour... the first show post joever was in florida... who's afraid of little old me being a twist on who's afraid of virginia woolf a film which starred elizabeth taylor and richard burton about a couple whose relationship breaks down at late night drinks in front of people... my boy only breaks his favourite toys - is she the toy??? free from the slammer where the slammer is an obvious reference to jail after all the criminal metaphors of her and joe tricking the system... but daddy i love him being a reference to the little mermaid where she gave up her voice for a man... clara bow being a 1920's film star who found her voice, married a guy who denied they were ever married publicly and then died + the majority of her fame coming from silent films where she literally didn't need to have a voice and then successfully transitioning into 'talkies' (films with sound).... the smallest man who ever lived vs. 'the loudest woman this town has ever seen who had a marvellous time ruining everything'... oh boy.

the way methinks a huge part of ttpd is going to center on how she unconsciously lost or forgot parts of herself in the process of valiantly, desperately trying to make something work. acquiescing. working. giving. shrinking. and what impact that had on her psyche / self-worth / confidence / value.
until she got to a point where she was begging to be seen, then demanding to be seen, and then determining she'd have to see herself (out).
c/o lightning strikes every time she moves -> i can still make the whole place shimmer -> i'm the best thing at this party -> crowd goes wild at her fingertips
big fan of characters with abandonment + attachment issues so profound that they leave claw marks in everything they touch but would sooner gnaw off their own leg than admit they just want someone to stay for once. in a totally normal well adjusted and not at all projecting way of course.
big fan of characters who are always leaving. who constantly have a suitcase in their hand. characters who start planning their exit the moment they arrive and get nervous when the people in their lives start to Know them. in a totally normal well adjusted and not at all projecting way of course
