Mom came over and the kitten was very bad. Kept putting her teeth and claws on Mom’s lace knitting project. The kitten has figured out I don’t allow her to touch my knitting but does not seem to realize the “do not touch this string with any part of your anatomy” rule applies to anyone’s knitting.
Summer season I do so much less knitting and weaving. I’m happy to be outside more and the garden is going but I look forward to making progress on some fiber nonsense again soon. (I’ve also been working longer hours.)

Now, of course, there are plenty of non-approptiation ways to wear a Cowichan sweater.
The first and best way to do so is to order one hand-knit by an actual Cowichan artisan. The Cowichan tribe website has a list of its artisans with a way to contact them for bespoke craft orders. Knitwithpurpose.com is a website where you can buy a custom-made hand-knit sweaters, but they seem to be a lot more expensive than just contacting a caftsperson on your own.
Such pieces can be a really worthwhile investment. Not only are the sweaters cozy and good looking, a hand-knit sweater made from quality wool WILL last you your entire lifetime, and then can be passed on to others as an heirloom.
You can also knit your own.
Now full honesty I haven't been able to find a pattern actually made by a Cowichan designer with money going back into the tribe, but I have found plenty of patterns that at least remain faithful to traditional designs.
The biggest and most important thing you can do with knitting your own is purchasing authentic Cowichan wool to knit with, an integral part of the traditional sweaters.

Today was repotting day for Maurice the Monstera. He’d gotten all root bound in his old pot and was very sad. He also got a new much taller moss pole.
I hope he will now stop trying to grow aerial roots into the window frame.

Finally finished my little belt pouch, from a pattern by Twig and Tale.
Turned out a bit more complex than I thought - it's fully lined and interfaced, with an inside pocket. And of course I picked the most serrated leaf option, because nothing tests rusty sewing skills like trying to make a neat edge out of a three-layer convolution.
My puppy has already tried to steal it a few times, so it must smell very good (mostly of me since I've been handling it for hours). But this one's just for me - I plan to carry a little notebook or a sketchbook in it, for whimsical purposes.

I was today years old when I learned silk is naturally gold. I have always been imagining it as off-white like wool or cotton
It depends on the type of silk! It’s very dependent on the species of silk moth. This is silk from eri silk moths which can be this dramatic gold that I have here, but there’s a whole range of shades of white, grey, brown, and yellow :)
