Just thought I’d list a few of the websites I find very helpful as an artist

This list is largely directed at digital artists, but many of these are applicable no matter your medium

Now in no particular order:

1. Line of Action

If you have been wanting to get into life drawing, but the classes seemed to awkward, too expensive, or too far away, I cannot recommend this site enough. It contains hundreds of photographs for figure drawing, faces, hands and feet, and even animals. You can set this up like a life drawing class, or put in custom time intervals. It will randomly select images from the category you chose, and give you a countdown to draw it. I a owe most of my anatomy knowledge to this site. It’s the shit.

2. Pixabay

Pretty simple this one. Just a bunch of free stock photos, licensed under creative commons, meaning you are free to use them however you want, no credit required, provided you don’t claim them as your own.

3. Artstation

This may be quite obvious, but if you’re looking to put together a portfolio, potentially find artistic employment (or employ an artist yourself), or just find a shit tonne of inspiration, Artstation does this very well. Honestly, there’s too much beautiful art on that site. It is, hands down, my greatest source of inspiration.

4. Charactdesigns.com

This site contains a bunch of photographs taken by the artist Hong Ly, who did a bunch of work on many of the very well know Naughty Dog games, so…what more reason do you need to check this out? Again all the photos fall under the creative commons license.

This is my go-to when I need a reference for a pose, or maybe an anatomy study. There are plenty of images of models both in costume and naked, depending on what you’re looking for.

5. Textures.com

This site contains a huge library of photo textures, general references, and texture maps – for those who prefer to work in 3D. While some of the files require a paid subscription to access, there is, nonetheless, a very healthy selection of free ones.

6. Posemaniacs

Do you want rotatable 3D models, in a a variety of lighting scenarios, with their skin helpfully removed? Yep. That’s pretty much it. Very nice for learning muscle structure etc. Don’t worry. They do have lips and eyelids. It’s not as bad as it could be. Also, there is subset of models only of hands (x) Well, mostly hands.

That’s largely what I can think of off the top of my head, but I’m sure I’ve missed a bunch, so please feel free to add your own. Also to reblog this, as, with all the external links, there is no way tumblr is going to let this show up in the search.

okay i’ve been getting quite a few asks about this so i thought i’d just make a post about it. i’ll split it into three categories based on experience - easy, medium, and hard. let me know if y’all are interested in a bodybuilding split workout then i’ll post one of those too.

easy - if you’re new to working out or strength training

knee pushups - 5 sets of 10 reps

sit ups - 3 sets of 10 reps

mountain climbers - 2 sets of 20 reps

lunges - 3 sets of 10 reps (5 per leg)

alternating arm/leg raises - 4 sets of 10 reps

jumping jacks - 4 sets of 10 reps

medium - a slightly more challenging if you feel like the above one is too easy

pushups - 5 sets of 10 reps

sit ups - 3 sets of 15 reps

squats - 3 sets of 10 reps (make sure to go down below parallel)

pike push-ups - 3 sets of 10 reps

plank - 2 sets of 60 second hold

doorway rows - 4 sets of 10 reps (link coz its a little unknown)

burpees - 5 sets of 10 reps

hard - if you’ve been working out before and want something a little challenging

pushups - 5 sets of 10 reps

diamond pushup - 2 sets of 6 reps

squats - 5 sets of 10 reps

pullups - 2 sets of 10 reps

reverse crunches - 3 sets of 10 reps

wall sit - 3 sets of 60 second hold

Top Surgery Packing List

Button up shirts and zip up hoodies (you won’t have the mobility to put on other kinds of shirts)

Sweat pants (after the first 30hrs or so I was able to manage jeans, but the sweat pants are really great for lounging around, and especially come in handy the first day of surgery)

Ibuprofen (my surgeon told me I could start a regimen of ibuprofen 2 days after the surgery to help wean me off of the pain pills).

Mint gum (helps with nausea)

Benadryl (I wasn’t sure I’d need this, but I’m SO glad I packed it. The dressing makes me itchy as hell, and benadryl really helps manage my irritation).

Bacitracin ointment (basically neosporin- to put on my drains’ incision area twice a day)

Nonstick pads and tape (for my incisions and nipples after Medalie removes my drains)

Colace (as recommended by my surgeon, because the pain pills make you really constipated)

Saltines and ramen noodles (for after surgery, in case my stomach was unsettled. The saltines are perfect for when I need to eat something before taking my meds, but don’t feel hungry).

Unscented wipes (to help wipe down/clean up my upper body, since I’m unable to shower until after the drains are removed. Seriously, it helps you feel more human/clean).

Dry shampoo (I actually didn’t find this very helpful. I just ended up washing my hair very carefully in the sink with regular shampoo. But I think I had more post-op mobility than some guys, so this probably wouldn’t work for everyone)

Travelmate® Travelmate ® Memory Foam Neck Pillow (I was iffy on purchasing a neck pillow, but so many guys recommended it that I decided I’d try it out. It was the best purchase I made for my recovery. This specific neck pillow is also amazing, so seriously, do yourself a favor and order it).

ok so. there’s an office administrator at my work and she has this cute little 2 year old named William. he calls me “Nick so tall”. like that’s my name to him, but he says it like it’s one word. “Nicksotall”. and i love it so I’ve taken to calling him Will So Lil’ and we get along like a housefire. i haven’t seen him in like two weeks, but his mom comes in to work today and tells me that recently he’s been telling his own bedtime stories, and he starts them all with once upon a time and everything. cute right? well to me it gets cuter, because he has been telling stories about Batman, Spider-man, and Nicksotall. and we have these adventures and climb buildings and fight crime together and i have to be honest, it warmed my heart so fucking much it’s ridiculous

Things I noticed while watching Hamilton:

1. The choreography. Like jesus. They're jumping onto and swinging off the rafters, throwing stools, sliding across the floor, dropping into one armed pushups, etc, etc. Amazing.

2. The character's expressions. When Hamilton introduces himself at the bar, the sister's disgust at Burr, all top notch.

3. Samuel Seabury is kinda cute ngl, and the like sliding the box around choreo? Love it. Actually, the entire choreo of that scene. Idk why, I just love it.

Things I wish I knew at 18

1. High school friendships don’t last. Not the way you want them to anyway. Even if you swam oceans of pain together. Even if you never wanted to drift apart. Friendships fall apart. Most times they sadly do.

2. Your parents will still treat you like a child. They don’t care about your legal reality. When you’re with them, they still see you as their baby. That can get frustrating but also comforting.

3. Your undergrad degree won’t matter as much as you think it will. So choose what you want to explore. Don’t choose something you think is going to be your career. Chances are when you graduate you will be doing something completely different than what you were dead sure of when you started college. Explore.

4. People are more selfish now. People are more broken now. People are more cautious now. Everyone has been through something that haunts them.

5. Everyone is suffering. Some will use that as an excuse to mistreat you. Some will because of that very reason be there for you in your suffering in anyway they can. Most times it’s hard to tell which person you’re being. Don’t be an ass.

6. Not everyone makes life long friends in college. You won’t. That’s okay. Nothing good comes out of forceful relations anyway. It can get lonely but at least that kind of loneliness isn’t because of shitty company.

7. Grades. Internships. Extra curricular activities. They matter. Everyone acts like it doesn’t but it does. Whatever choice you make, whatever your course may be, how you perform does matter. It isn’t everything but it matters.

8. Self care isn’t boring or unnecessary. It’s important. It’s hard but it’s crucial. You don’t have to click pictures for aesthetics or share your progress. You can if it helps. But you don’t have to. Because that’s secondary. You know what’s primary. Do it.

9. Just because you become an adult by a number and are recognized as one because of law doesn’t mean you aren’t you anymore. The way you are at 17 years 364 days, is the way you will remain at 18. Perhaps 19. That’s okay. There’s a lot learn. You may have fought and conquered adolescence but this is a completely different story. There are new skills and lessons to be learned. All previous ones may not necessarily remain valid.

10. You genuinely have to learn to let go. Imagine your life to be a tiny box. A box that fits in your palm. If that box is full of past pain, regret and disappointments, of all the people who broke you, of negativity and dried blood, all the good things and beautiful people that are to come into your life will fall right off because there just isn’t enough space in that box. It is full of everything you don’t need or deserve. Good things will come your way, they will fall into your hands but you still won’t be happy if you don’t remember to take out the trash.
