it just makes me so sad when i think about “smaller” things of the patriarchy. like for example i was remembering today something that always makes me sad, its the fact that men and boys barely ever look at women and girls and think “wow, she’s so cool”, “she’s awesome”, “[talking about one of her accomplishments] that’s so nice” like men are just not enthusiastic about us at all and sometimes it really shows, and sincerely? it hurts. like you could tell a man about how, for example, the person who pretty much created the sci-fi genre (Mary Shelley, with “Frankenstein”) was a woman, and how epic that is and they would just look at you like you showed them footage of a recently painted wall drying. or you could tell them about how the first feature lenght animated movie ever made, which was also a stop motion movie, was made by a woman (Lotte Reiniger with “The Adventures of Prince Achmed”, from 1926) and they would just look at you and say “huh. i see.”
and not just cool women in history but also women in their lives, or women they watch on YouTube, like really anything. like when was the last time you heard the average modern man enthusiastically talking about this new writer (female) that he started reading recently and how brilliant she is? or this YouTuber he recently discovered and started watching, who he thinks is so creative and fun and has great content?
i cant remember situations of that happening, even if i try. i can only remember having seen men talk in such ways about other men. meanwhile, women seem to admire both men and women like this.
